He's renting a penthouse ensuite.

That's a waste of money. Especially in Australia, I can get a 3 bedroom house for half of that.
Also, I'm considering transferring to a different location to work. Same company but closer to home and such.
Only problem is, there's more people there and I'm less likely to end up being a shift manager, which means less money.
I'm not sure what to do.

If you're eager to climb the corporate ladder I'd stay where you are. If you are only working there until you "find something else" I'd transfer to the closer one. I don't know what Australian gas prices are like, but I'm sure they've gone up over the years too, and every little bit helps. Also if there's more people, that means its busier, which means you'll be working harder. Unless theres a raise involved why do more for the same?
I'd love to get a job in a computer store but I don't know if I know enough about that stuff. I'm able to fix all my problems by myself but I just don't know if it's enough for a job :/ One of the stores here is currently hiring but I guess I'm too unconfident to make an application. Oh man. I don't care how much money I get I just want to do something instead of sitting around the whole day.
There's a Target near where I live that's open 24 hours. And I've been in there at 2 and there was one other person there.
Also my work closes at midnight, it should really close at 10. No one comes in unless they're really dodgy looking or grabbing milk or bread for the next day.

Emerald, QLD.
Look up renting prices for Moranbah Queensland Australia. $2k a week for some shitty 3 bedroom queenslanders houses.
Oh I have a good story. I'm the electronics specialist at Target.
One day I was working as usual and a lady came back to electronics and asked to check out all her stuff back there. I hate when people do that since our registers don't have conveyor belts. I said no, because she didn't have any electronics items. She quickly went over to a shelf and grabbed a pre-paid phone card. Fuck. Well anyways I'm like whatever and start ringing up her stuff. She has a cart full of weird stuff, not typical Target items. Things like little containers, womanly items, stuff you'd need to travel.
Also worth nothing she's a younger latino looking girl. She spoke decent English. As I'm ringing up her stuff she appeared noticeably nervous. She also had a suitcase in the cart, and told me "I don't need bags, just put it in the suitcase". So now I'm thinking this is definitely a strange situation.
I do as she said, give her the total (Like 50 bucks) and she swipes a card. The card is rejected by the register. I tell her that her card isn't being accepted, and she starts freaking out. She looks for other cards and can't find anything. I ask if she needed to talk to her bank or something but she just says "No, I'll be back soon" and leaves the cart and runs off.
Never saw her again, I assume she was running away from an abusive boyfriend or family and stole the credit card, but they had just deactivated it. Poor girl.
We get 100€ here if we intercept a stolen credit card.
Even more if we can get the person to hang around until the police arrive.
you guys might be earning less than me per hour but rent is also like $700 a week here alone.. so it's pretty fucked.. i have no money constantly
Where the fuck do you live that rent is $2,800 a month? I only pay $450/mo.
Find some room-mates boy.

I put on a pair of nice dress slacks and a button down shirt that matched, made myself pretty, and walked around shopping plazas with a portfolio with my resume in it. Made me look professional.
Everywhere I could, I talked to the manager of the store for as long as possible without being a nuisance.
I ended up striking the right note at the then-manager of the RadioShack I work for now and he ended up hiring me over two other people who were a little more well qualified and had applied earlier than I had.

wow what the fuck :v:
Thats even expensive.. By Norwegian standards. And our small apartments here costs 400,000 dollars ^:v:^
I doubt there's a place in the world that costs $700 A WEEK that isn't some kind of super luxury hotel room with service and reputation.

Why would you spend that much to live in Queensland? It's not even near the beach!
How the fuck can any of you complain? I know it's more than in other countries, but my friend and I dishwash at a local restaurant. He's been working here for TWO YEARS and still makes $7.50/hr.
Been working at a restaurant for almost 2 years and still only make $7.25 an hour if I host or $5.25 an hour if I bus. According to my manager I can't get a raise because when I bus I make 10% of the server's tips, which sucks because you get nothing if people tip terribly or it is a slow night, plus the 2 dollars less I get for bussing makes me only get around $150 a week if I'm lucky.
In positive news, I got a 20 cents raise a couple weeks ago. $8.20 an hour aw yea.
I need a real job.
Is this where I hold my tongue and not mention how much I get an hour?

If it's obscenely higher than most of us, yes. If it's obscenely lower, we'll shower you in hearts.

That's fantastic. We've had plenty of obvious cases of stolen cards but we're not allowed to stop them, since it's the great USA and anyone can sue for anything, so Target tries to avoid any sort of confrontation that can leave them liable.
What legal expenses? You just call the cops and show them evidence. Nothing else concerns you anymore. It's not like you have to sue the pedo and go to court to defend yourself.
Legal expenses to get my job back after they fire me.
I should have tried to get a job when I was 17
Now I'm 18 and with no work experience nobody will hire me
So I have to volunteer and do charity work and continue to wander around handing out resumes until I get a job
goddammit I'm not a fuckin' charity.

My mom has made me work since I was 15, it sucked then but it's turned out well, get first choice at pretty much anywhere I apply. Satisfied with my current job though
yeah I should have got off my ass and did something
now they only want to hire 15 year olds who work 30 hours a week

30 hours? Wow, I have trouble getting 30 hours when it's quiet in the summer. Apply to cashier, they usually hire people with little experience. The job sucks though, but it's money.
Anyone have suggestions for rewriting a resume? I think thats whats holding me back in getting a job.
First off, make sure you write a cover letter. A cover letter should be a short (about one page) business letter that formally tells the potential employer about yourself. Say your name, why you want the job, explain a little about your experience or abilities (I'll expand on this later). End it off with some forms of contact (phone, email, cell, etc.) and when you'll be available.
Next you add your actual resume. A lot of this information probably will be in the application, but creating the resume makes it easier for the employer to take a quick look at it. List previous jobs - where you worked, when, your position, a brief description of your abilities, a reference contact. Also list education - high school, college. Don't have a lot/any job experience? List other things - clubs, groups, community volunteering - anything that shows that you've done work. Continue by noting skills; this is especially important for jobs where you'll be using equipment (ie computers). Say what programs you used (and what version), machinery or tools you're familiar with, etc. Be specific! Make sure your name and contact info is on there, too.
Hand in this resume directly to the manager, or whomever does the hiring. Call ahead to see if they'll be in, and dress up business casual to hand-deliver a printed copy on nice paper. Be prepared to talk a little about your resume and qualifications.
Finally, follow up. Write on your cover letter that you'll call to check up in about a week or so, and also ask the manager when they'll be coming to a decision about hiring. Call (or drop in with advance notice) and see if they need any more information from you. Basically, be a real go-getter; if they recognize your voice and face and know that you're dedicated to getting the job, they likely will find that more appealing than someone with a better resume who didn't bother to check up on them.
Quick review:
1. Introduce yourself in a cover letter.
2. Write your work history and special abilities in your resume.
3. Hand-deliver this and talk with a manager.
4. Call back to check on your application's status.
:eng101:
Good luck!
it's always depressing thinking about how my old job paid nowhere near as much as my friend gets selling weed :( luckily now I'm living tenuously off of a student loan and some savings so I don't have to work

In Florida, USA, when I was 15 I only worked 4 hours. Per week... 4 fucking hours!
Florida's labor laws are strict, at age 15, you can't work on weekdays before 15:00, and you cant work after 18:00 any day.
Now that I'm 16 though, I can finally work 30 hours. Just not past 22:00..
Just three more shifts left until my contract is up. Then I'll be saying farewell to Primark. Not a moment too soon.
If only KB Toys was still in business. That was my first job when I was 17. They hired younger people too, but yeah you basically needed no experience to work there. I worked there part time until I was 19 and went to college and lived off of student loans that came back and bit me in my ass after I graduated. The trick about working in my opinion is to work WHILE in college (if you go to college). I have so much debt now I don't know what to do with it!
