When it comes to the reef, look with your eyes, not with your hands. Don't pick shit up off it.
Also, don't piss on the corals, they don't like that.
Have fun.
Don't listen to him, leave a grand saga of piss down the Great Barrier Reef.
I'm in People to People too, it is a pretty nice organization even though the trips are a bit pricey. I went to Hawaii for 2 weeks on a trip with them. It is a very fun experience and you won't regret it. Have fun!

My butt hurts. :butt::frown:
Replying so you don't get ignored.
Why do we care about what others think? Shouldn't we just stay isolated I mean George Washington
siad that. So what if they think of us as fatass control freaks i dont care we shouldn't.
Food: You more then likely can find it in your country
People: Most of the students are ok. However, there will be alot of dropkicks outside this area
Truth hurts.
Yeah, it sucks being exiled to somewhere with great weather and awesome beaches.
We certainly got the short end of the deal.
Hit up Australia Zoo, defs the great barrier reef. Byron bay is pretty rad, but Melbourne is the big one I'd say.
Im from Melbourne, probably the nicest place to see in my opinion.
Things to see:
Flinders lane.
Melbourne Zoo+Museum
Old Parliament house.
Lygon street for really good coffee.
National Gallery of Victoria.
South Melbourne and Queen Vic markets.
As for eating, we have pretty much the usual shit takeaway chains. But if you get the time, go to the South Melbourne Market, there is a small store there (no.150 i think) which sells the best dim sims in the world. Hit up Chapel Street if you're looking for a good coffee.
Brighton beach is pretty good to around this time of the year, cept kids take all the good spots to jump off. Theres also mad graffiti all over Melbourne if you;re into that sort of thing.
Any questions?
unfortunatly like that guy above, there seems to be a predetermined resentment towards Americans here, dont ask me why, ive got no beef with you guys :)
Do you have diplomatic Immunity?
"a 15-day trip down the east coast through many major cities"
.. there are like three major cities on the east coast.
Are you coming all the way down to Melbourne? As hehe said, it's a really cool place, but bring plenty of different clothes, the weather changes at the drop of a hat.
And don't listen to all the stuff being banned crap, the joke is 99% false, we don't have L4D2 or small boobs. We're not missing out on much.
If your going Melbourne, go to the eureka skydeck, it's fucking beautiful. That's if you can. Melbourne is a good city, alot of people (I know because I live there... so don't question me...)
But seriously.... don't get fucked by some people, I know, they're idiots.
Dont be such an ass. Hes going there for educational purposes, and besides, no one wants to live with you, you act like a dick. All he was asking for was some advice, not "DUM AMERICANZ GET OUT >:("

Your not being arrogant, don't apologize. I think its nice you get to go to Australia. I hope you learn alot about their culture, and some cool things about the aboriginals.
Lol culture. We don't have some alien culture. it's pretty much like liberal america, minus a few things we don't want.
Also, if you're on the east coast you won't see many abo's. But if you go inland or something, don't look at them in the eyes on the streets, don't give them weird looks, and if they ask you for money, just say you don't have any. Alot of aborigionals are drunk/fucked on petrol or paint fumes.
If you see one of these:

don't fucking touch it, you will die.
That's one of the cool things about this country, everything can kill.
Also, when you're in Sydney, check out the LG IMAX theatre. It's the world's largest cinema screen (35.73 m × 29.42 m) and it's fucking awesome.
Lol culture. We don't have some alien culture. it's pretty much like liberal america, minus a few things we don't want.
You obviously live in Sydney or Brisbane.
I'd laugh if I see you there...
.
Have fun. It's cool. And if anyone acts like a dick because you're American. Tell them to get fucked.
Yeah, they think that this is THEIR country, notice how this is a free country, IMO it's more free than America ( no offense. )
Truth hurts.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_Revolution
People lost their jobs because machines started taking their places. That made people have to steal food. Kids as young as 10 were put into jail.
Jail's got overpopulated, so they sent them all to Australia. Most people sent to Australia didn't deserve it at all.

Darwin and Melbourne.
I've travelled around alot too. Some places like mildura and shit are pretty bogan and could be compared to conservative america. Though there are nice people wherever you go.

heh. Melbourne has varied cultures completely different to America.

Go fuck yourself
Come to Melbourne where the cool people live.
Go fuck yourself
It's true. Ever been to alice springs? In darwin they have security guards in most bottle shops to prevent them from stealing booze. Most of them are okay though. But if you give some of them the wrong look, they can cause a scene.
Come to Melbourne where the cool people live.
Melbourne represent!

Unfortunately this is true.
They'll fucking stab you any chance they get YOU WHITE KENT EHHHHHH
And some aboriginal seriously screamed that at me while getting off a train.
Melbourne represent!
:respek:
Come to Australia and appreciate our more durable money.
-Do not go near any snakes - Trust me there are a shit ton of the bastards in Cairns.
-Do not touch any spiders.
-Do not go on the train/bus/tram late at night.
-Do not go near the Aboriginals.
-If someone says something you find offensive, then don't take it personally, chances are that the person is just joking.
Just use your common sense and you'll be fine, we're not that different to the USA.
Enjoy your trip!

Pretty much the main thing you should watch out for when in Melbourne, unless you really want some 17 year old lad shanking you with a screwdriver.
but you should be ok, unless you're Indian.
Are you coming through Newcastle?
Don't move, chances are you'll encounter a posionous animal
Definitely this - if you're of Asian or Indian decent then you should be especially careful if you're in/near the city late at night. Just avoid the city at night regardless of your ethnicity unless you're with a lot of people, as alcohol fueled violence has become a bit of a problem in Melbourne lately.
However, as I said, common sense will keep you out of trouble.
