Here's the whole Age of Empires Gamescom event:
also this really shows that dow 3 was rushed out the door, considering sega has done this before with rome 2 pressured to force out an unfinished game and they devote all their resources to the bigger project (aoe 4) at least thats what I hope, and that aoe 4 isn't as much of a stain on the rts genre as dow 3 is
I completely forgot dow 3 came out, what's wrong with it?
I completely forgot dow 3 came out, what's wrong with it?
Plays to much like a moba with very defined paths and channels on each map, it lacks kind of a strategy aspect. It's decent but probably not what people wanted from Dawn of War.
So what time period do yall think it's going to cover? WW1 or something like 1890-1900?
From the cinematic it looks like they're covering all the periods, although that would be very ambitious.
That was all concept/promo art for the older games, I played so much AOE3 I'd recognize that art anywhere. [editline]21st August 2017[/editline] From the sound of what the announcer said in the trailer, I have a feeling this is going to be 19th Century/WWI maybe?
I really hope they don't try to do a game that has multiple time periods. AoE always works best focused on a single one or else it turns into a Empire Earth mess. Which is fine, but its not what I want from an AoE game.
From the cinematic it looks like they're covering all the periods, although that would be very ambitious.
My hypothesis is that the game will focus on BC Era, Medieval Era, and Colonial Era ages each with their own unique style of gameplay. Then they will release expansion packs (if the game's successful enough) for stuff like the Modern Era (WW1 - Gulf/Iraq War Stuff) and a Future Era after release. It would be dependent on the settings set in the individual lobby/server and what not.

Although the fact that this is 4 and not a reboot of the series makes me think they're going to try it anyway.
Personally, I'd rather they focus on one Era, with multiple Eras it makes it seem less AoE and more Empire Earth. And seeing Relic as a part of this? I cannot help but scowl. I can't feel hype with what they did to Dawn of War 3.

We ended on Musketeers and Indians, logical next step is the Great War.
I really, really doubt they're doing multi-era. They were showing the history of the franchise with using past promo art.
I really, really doubt they're doing multi-era. It has always seemed more like you're progressing on a smaller scale, still well within the same era the Empire you rule started in. You're bringing your empire to its golden era, the height of its military and economic potential. Going from barbarians to tanks in the course of one game feels like it undermines the civilization choice you make, like starting in 4000BC as the Americans in Civ 5.
It's decent but probably not what people wanted from Dawn of War.
So the exact same mistake they made with dow2
If I pick Romans I want some god damn Romans, not generic modern military units with an SPQR flag.
So the exact same mistake they made with dow2
for different reasons, most of why dow 3 is bad is because a lack of races, a mediocre campaign, a stupid grind system, and low tier voice acting/graphics. it feels like more of a free to play game rather than a 60$ one, which is why I feel like sega got them to rush it out so they could move forward with aoe 4. Especially since the team stated that they wouldn't really be able to do expansion stuff for a long time because of the amount of time it would take to make new content rather than balance old ones, showing that they probably moved a lot of the team over to aoe 4 before the game was even finished

You'd make more money if you put out quality products that garner support of communities long after the game is relevant... It's the reason they're focusing on AoE in the first place.
If they fix the godawful multiplayer, I'll be happy.

I don't know what to think or feel. It's just been so long, the existence of this announcement is kinda surreal. But hey it's Relic
So, are we getting ww2/vietnam?
My hypothesis is that the game will focus on BC Era, Medieval Era, and Colonial Era ages each with their own unique style of gameplay. Though when it comes to Eras, I think they'd still need to have their own ages. The original had Stone Age, Tool Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age, while AoE2 had the Dark Age, Feudal Age, Castle Age and Imperial Age. It would be cool to have Ages that you progress through during matches, in addition to being able to select which Age of the empire to start with. That way, one could avoid the potential "clusterfucks" that might arise with Empire Earth's system, while still having the whole procession through history that we experience in games like Empire Earth, Age of Empires, and Civilization.
I hope they don't make the retarded mistake of making it Win10 store exclusive. Also hopefully they don't go the route of AoEIII. I didn't mind the game so much, it was still fun enough to play. It just didn't feel like an Age of Empires game at all.
Ah, Age of Empires, the series I always used to play without having a fucking clue how to actually win. As a kid, it was pretty much just a sandbox of neat music, funny sounds and cool animation
Best play method is retarded amounts of walls and towers slowly expanding across the map with shit loads of villagers to repair them when necessary. Takes ridiculous amounts of stone but it was a fairly fun and reliable method to win in my experience.
Seeing people compare it to things, I don't know why you're not talking about Rise of Nations. It's an RTS in the same style of Age of Empires, but it goes through the eras to the future and stuff.
I loved Rise of Nations so much back in the day. It was definitely one of my favorite RTSs ever. Thanks for reminding me of it.
They should make the empires era specific, so Brits would always have muskets and Romans would always be in togas. But not make them balanced.
I hope they don't make the retarded mistake of making it Win10 store exclusive.
Of course they're going to do that, just like the aoe1 remake Microsoft being greedy, selfish and inconsiderate as per
Microsoft being greedy, selfish and inconsiderate as per
I dunno that greedy actually counts here though when they're definitely going to make a ton less by making it exclusive to their own store which few people use in comparison to mainstream gaming services.
