We're getting a watered down NBN that basically consists of Fiber along the streets but still uses the copper lines that run to your home, so basically creating a bottleneck as it enters your home, meaning the speeds won't be all that improved particularly if the copper leading to your house isn't in good condition.
Jesus christ, and you can't even get some construction guys out to extend the fiber out to your house?
have fun paying 3-7 grand
Australia really did fuck up by voting him in.
I've always wondered what would happen to server hosts if everyone had super internet. For those who have a spare computer, they could just host at home.
Maybe not busy websites, but game servers would be a good example.
I also wonder if things like dossing would worsen, be ineffective or stay the same.
i live in the only KC suburb not slated to get fiber, shit sucks
if i lived literally half a mile south, i'd be past the KC city limits
but no, i get stuck with shitty internet while all my friends can download porn in seconds flat

I got 300 mbit, hosting 2 server at the moment, on saturday they both had about 40 people on it so yeah, this speed is pretty nice to have for hosting.
Provo is pretty small, and certainly don't have a lot of money; it's one of the reasons google bought it's pre-existing fiber infrastructure; it cost them [google] $0.01.
The other place near here is Centerville that has gigabit, their symbol is [t]https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/916122676/logo.gif[/t]

It technically is.

That's their logo. What I posted is still the official flag. Also 110k people isn't all that small.
I'd kill someone to have Google Fiber in Australia especially where I live

Most hosts already cap total and per ip bandwidth, only a few don't. I'd imagine botnets would get more powerful, and the need for ISPs to finally start more peering would arise.
Game servers would probably see a good impact, lower pings as everyone is getting basically direct connections to a datacenter, and with the increased traffic and network infrastructure being put ip, connection times would probably get better.
I wonder how intrusive this is going to end up being.
I need Google Fiber.

The only time that ludicrous download speed is useful is for when i pull in my linux distros, other than that no big difference, upload on the other hand.

I just noticed i am 99% faster than all of NL, and all that for 30 euro per month (41.28 dollars)
paying $60 a month for this.

Although I have around 6mb/s in Sweden.
The ISP I use in Norway doesn't offer anything under 20/20 Mbs!
Kansas only? Damn. :(
The free package is 5MBS. Can't believe we pay £30 for that same speed here! :v:
What, who are you with. I pay that amount for 120mb fibreoptic

It's not useful for downloading games from Steam/Origin?
I download at around 19 MB/s from steam and 20 MB/s from Origin with my 150/15 Mb/s

Lately not that much. It seems it spikes to 20 MB and then back to 2 MB, jumps around all the time.
Perhaps i should change server location.
