They are not causing anyone's death. And it's not selfish. Especially not when it's only done to prolong someone's unhealthy lifestyle for a few years longer at the cost of thousands and thousands.
Right, because that's totally what organ donation does.
Right, because that's totally what organ donation does.
It was an example, but yes that's exactly what organ donation is sometimes.
I've been an organ donor ever since my childhood friend passed away. The way I see it is, I won't be using them when I'm dead so there's no harm in someone else using them. Also there's always a chance my cells will invade their body and take control, so on the upside I could end up immortal. It's a win win
donation mandatory I'm not an organ donor and I'm not going to be one

I think it should be. It helps save more lives, and it's not like you're going to need them when you're embalmed for your funeral. As for me. .well, I choose to be. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/XvBNVVi.png[/thumb]
Eventually we will have the technology to use artificial organs that would do the same job and more. We already have the technology now its just the price of those who can afford it. I am sure in the future the price will drop making it affordable to almost everyone.
donation mandatory I'm not an organ donor and I'm not going to be one
Why? You're already dead why should you keep your parts that could save someone that's actually LIVING
How about some god damned respect for the dead?
I never understood this. Respect for the dead. Why? They're dead. It's more respect for the family of the dead than anything else. On topic: I always liked the idea of an opt-out system rather than opt-in. Often, people mean to opt-in but forget, and some people aren't even aware of the system through which one has to go to become a donor. Making it opt-out would be a better idea because then it would open the process up a bit. If you object, that's fine! Send a letter to the appropriate agency and your organs remain in your body.
Why? You're already dead why should you keep your parts that could save someone that's actually LIVING
Please stop bringing this up, it contributes absolutely nothing to the argument other than making it go in circles. The 'could' is why it's not a viable argument in favor of mandatory donation, because even if my organs are fit for transferring to a living person, there is no guarantee they ever will be. There are a lot of variables in actual organ donation that make it not so black and white as 'if you donate, you will save lives'. After that the argument boils down to 'but it could, so you should do it', which, while it is more arguable than a blanket statement, is an issue of forcing your moral standpoint on somebody else and that doesn't work in a forum (the actual definition, not the internet definition) discussion either. The long and short of it is that I really wish your side would consider something other than "You're already dead so give them to someone else who needs them" because there is no guarantee my parts will get to someone who needs them once they're out of me and in the doctors' hands.

Also, organ donation doesn't work the same way as scrapping a car, AFAIK they don't whip everything out the minute you kick the bucket and keep it all in an esky on the off chance someone needs a spare part. If any of your organs end up "in the doctors hands" it's because they do have a use for it. As I've said before, I don't think donation should be mandatory, but I think there should be social pressure on those who aren't donors to get with the program. It should be the status quo.
I would donate my organs that are on the biggest list, which are mostly kidneys and livers at the moment. But I don't think my heart or corneas. I'unno, I'm guess I'm philosophical about my body. To the debate at hand, I'd think it'd be okay for mandatory organs, but it's up to you what to give- rather than a foundation taking what they please.
I'll pass, I spent my hard time growing these organs and nurturing them. I'm sorry someone else is in need but this is my body and I say what happens with it.
I'll pass, I spent my hard time growing these organs and nurturing them. I'm sorry someone else is in need but this is my body and I say what happens with it.
You don't say anything after you're dead~
I'll pass, I spent my hard time growing these organs and nurturing them. I'm sorry someone else is in need but this is my body and I say what happens with it.
I can't tell if you're being deliberately obtuse or not, but if you've expended so much time and hard work to grow these organs (mine seem to look after themselves) doesn't it seem a shame to let them decompose?
Those who are deceased do not have legal rights, which should include the wild claim that they own their organs.
Uh.. no. So by saying that the dead don't have rights, am I allowed to go to my local graveyard, dig up all the bodies and desecrate them? I don't think so. If people want to help, they'll donate. If not, too bad.
