Bob Hope honestly isn't that bad guys. And I think you guys are taking it to the extreme.
It's not about his avatar being problematic, it's because George Lincoln Rockwell was a Nazi.
The dude is just trolling you so he can say "Look at how prissy liberals are." How are you falling for this?
Wasn't arguing Bob Hope was 'that bad'. Just saying that he has done racist things in his career.

Gonna be honest, you're gonna find a lot of terrible shit if you go back in Hollywood to black and white for pretty much everyone. Standards were more lax and bits of racism was more tolerated so it doesn't really make sense to judge people who aren't outright racist assholes for some mistakes in their career. Who knows what'll be taboo in the future, are we going to crucify everyone who made an effeminate gay or transvestite joke in the 80s/90s? Might just be better to let shit like that slide.
Next time somebody freaks out about the "liberal agenda" show them this thread.
Because the real liberal agenda is trying to calmly rehabilitate an angry guy who disagrees with you for four fucking pages.
This echo chamber is completely out of hand!
Bob Hope performing in blackface 'wasn't racist'? What? He was also somewhat homophobic and sexist with his comedy, though that wasn't all that unusual for the time. It being not unusual for the time doesn't really forgive it though. We can both recognize that he tried to bring entertainment to the masses and the troops and recognize that he's done some racist things and homophobic and sexist things. I don't think you should put him on a pedestal just because you 'don't want to hear it'. Weren't you complaining earlier about people putting people on a pedestal and feeling a 'need to bring them down a notch for the hypocrisy' besides?
I mean Groucho Marx was a great comedian himself - that doesn't mean he was squeaky clean or that his being a great comedian makes his personal views and the subject matter of his comedy acts not 'up for debate and reinterpretation in modern context'.
I've got bad news for you about Johnny Carson too.
From the script of that sketch:
When a viewer called to complain about the sketch, Carson ordered it to re-air the next week.
Norman Rockwell is a pretty cool guy. Of no relation to George Rockwell :fp:
Norman Rockwell is a pretty cool guy.
So is Fred Rogers - one of the few public personalities I know of to have almost literally no baggage whatsoever. The dude practically defines 'squeaky clean'.
E: As far as I'm aware the most 'looked-down upon' and 'controversial' things he did in his entire life (aside from being anti-war and a vegetarian) was refer to God as 'She'.
