The governments in Europe have thrown the doors open and said to people "Come to Europe, we'll give you a free house and pay you to live here!" and acting like it's fucking Paradise. The fact of the matter is Europe isn't doing great at the moment, we're recovering slowly from a recession, the Euro is worth shit and other currencies aren't doing great either, unemployment is a huge problem despite the countries being filled with educated young people, and many countries don't have enough houses for their own people. Accepting as many refugees as we are, with no real checks on their information and no real plan on where to send them, is irresponsible. What needs to happen is the leaders of the European countries need to work out how many immigrants they can take in and how many refugees they can hold, then they need to move people into countries that can support them. And if they complain that "Oh I was sent to Austria but I want to go to Germany or Sweden." well tough shit to them, they're still in some of the wealthiest countries on Earth, if they want to move they can emigrate back out of Europe or move on their own wallet after they've integrated instead of expecting the governments to pay for everything. Also a clear distinction between immigrants and refugees needs to be established, with immigrants given access to integration centres and refugees being told that if they want to stay they'll have to go through the immigration process. The current system where governments take in huge volumes of people and dump them out of the way in small towns that can't handle them with no support needs to end now. And before you say "Oh, you don't like immigrants you horrible filthy racist. You literal Nazi." I have no problem with immigrants or refugees, it's not their fault they were lied to by the governments of Europe or the smugglers who they paid to come over, they just want a better life, to get away from war or poverty or whatever. But we can't pretend we have all the money, space, and resources in the world, patting ourselves on the back for helping immigrants when they're left listing in the wind and we cut the budgets of public services. By doing that we're hurting our own poor, elderly, and sick and we're also hurting the immigrants who wind up in conditions little better than what they were running away from in the first place. I've avoided posting in immigration threads because they generally turn into shitshows, but I'm tired of the extremist bullshit coming from both sides. Opening to doors to everyone is stupid and hurts everyone involved, but closing our borders or sending everyone back is not viable and completely heartless. We need a rational, responsible solution to the immigration problem and we're not going to get it until people stop talking shit and shutting each other down and actually [i]talk[/i] about what the problems are and how to fix them.

But If you cross 15 safe countries to live in a literal shit hole just outside the Channel Tunnel and attempt to break into the country then you are an economic migrant and you can fuck off.
