Greetings my colonial brothers. This coming February for 2 weeks I will be staying with a friend at her new apartment in Louisiana and I'm looking for suggestions for things to see and do. We have a car so long distance travel is do-able for example we plan on hopping over to texas to visit NASA and one of these 'six flags' things. So if anyone had any suggestions on anything I'd be eternally thankful.
Like someone else said, go fire some guns, theres bound to be a fuckload of ranges around you, you can honestly just go to those, pay some money, and shoot a bunch of different guns and its a lot of fun. Most importantly try and get as much BBQ and fried chicken you can. I can safely say America does that shit the best and if you are in Louisiana/South you are right at the epicenter of the best BBQ and fried chicken in the world by far. May not be some high class thing but fuck it, its fucking amazing and you wont be able to get it as good anywhere else.
If you're going to Six Flags Over Texas, make sure you stop by Sweet Georgia Browns in Dallas fir the best got darn food ya dun ever put in your kisser. Also while you're in the boot don't forget to try all of the new orleans cuisine. Gumbo is a dish from the saints.
Your in america, not much too do but eat unhealthy shit food and fire your guns while drinking a 40 of cheap wisky, the american dream! have fun!
You don't live in America what do you know about that freedom life?

Well, if you're willing to drive long enough and love planes, you can visit the National Air Force Museum very close to Dayton, Ohio. (Southwest corner of the state) While you're on the way there, you can also stop to see the Cincinnati Zoo, and the Newport Aquarium if you'd like. Plenty of neat little shops & restaurants in the same place as the Aquarium. The zoo might be a tad boring though depending on how cold it is & the rest of the weather. The city of Dayton also has some interesting stuff. If you're a fan of Theater performances, there is the Schuster Center and the Victoria Theatre While driving through Kentucky into Ohio into Cincinnati, make sure to wave at [del]Big Butter Jesus[/del] Five Dollar Footlong Jesus on the way there! Everything else I can really suggest is closed during winter. v:v:v

Go to Chicago, I promise you won't die.
Go to Chicago, I promise you won't die.
I can only imagine what Detroit looks like
I can only imagine what Detroit looks like
Unfortunately when I was in Detroit I slept through most of the tour around the city my buddy gave since I was exhausted after driving 5 hours and not getting enough sleep, so I missed all the violent gang battles and burning buildings.
Come visit Baltimore for the aquarium, stay for the gang violence [editline]7th December 2014[/editline]
I can only imagine what Detroit looks like

I said Louisiana you muppet. Also we are good for some long ass distant travel via car so I guess anything within a 2-3 state range?
In Texas you can go to Galveston and see the beaches and eat tons of seafood. Houston has traffic, pollution and oil refineries :v: San Antonio has the Alamo, River Walk, Tower of the Americas, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Sea World. New Braunfels has Schlitterbahn, which is basically a waterpark so massive that it has buses between the three sites. Unfortunately it's only open during the summer. It also has both the Comal and Guadalupe rivers which are famous for tubing when we have enough rain lol. Gurene (In the West part of New Braunfels has wineries and lots of local restaurants. San Marcos has the San Marcos river which is another local favorite for swimming / tubing around in. It's also pretty low due to lack of rain. Austin has 6th street and live music pretty much every day until like 2 AM. Though you'll want to stay off the roads from 5 AM - 10 AM and 3 PM - 8 PM due to rush hour. Saturdays and Sundays are exceptions when you want to avoid IH-35 pretty much all day. Austin also has the F1 race track way on the east side, but that's the good east side. The bad east side is directly to the east of IH-35 and you don't want to go there. If you find yourself there, get right the fuck out as fast as you can.
When it comes down to food, stay away from Burger King or McDonald's.
While burgers are at hand, you can try In-N-Out burger at Los Angeles, California or San Antonio, Texas. Those burgers and fries are exceptionally good compared to what you can get at a mainstream fast food chain. So if you do get here you can have a taste of the source of the biggest obesity epidemic roaming US cities, in high quality.

I also know there should be one or two in Dallas as well.
Five Guys destroys In-n-Out
Fatburger beats all.

If you get real wild and adventurous and drive to the "nation's capital" they have tons of incredible and free museums...the zoo ain't half bad either.
You're going to be in the South. Your best bet is to see some of the beautiful sights, eat some sick BBQ, and listen to some good music. If you make it up to Alabama, someone already mentioned Space and Rocket center in Huntsville. Alabama also has a ton of ancient historical stuff to see and beautiful land reserves/state parks. Great place just to drive around. Tennessee is also beautiful and Nashville has some of the best barbecue around. Atlanta is really the culture center of the south, though. If you want something interesting city-wise to do. It's the spot to be. You should definitely check out NOLA while you're down in Louisiana though.
If you ever make it to florida, visit the amusement parks and the beaches. Busch Gardens in particular is pretty awesome there.
If you come to Dallas or Fort worth, I'll take you shooting and show you where the good bbq is.
If you ever make it out to Atlanta, we have some cool stuff here. World of Coke, a really big aquarium, gang violence etc.
Good old Atlanta. Tons of homeless people, drugs, and violence. The last time I went there before I moved I went with a buddy to drop his girlfriend off at the peachtree station, and after that we decided to drive around for a while and ended up getting lost around the south side near Clayton county. If you do go to Atlanta (I honestly would advise against it if you're visiting, as much as I love Georgia Atlanta isn't that great in my opinion.), but if you do be careful and don't end up in a bad part of town. I would recommend going to Savannah though over Atlanta, now that's a fun place. It's absolutely beautiful and full of culture and attractions and you're a lot less likely get shot, robbed, or run into homeless people begging for money or people trying to sell you bootleg copies of Despicable Me.
How about Florida. More specifically, Destin Though it was 70F yesterday, it's not going to be warm enough to get in the water come February. Also the water only looks like that (And better sometimes) during high tide, so consult tide charts
Don't mention you're a red coat if you're in the south. People still think Reagan is president down there and will not hesitate to shoot. All jokes aside, weed is legal in Colorado and Washington. From what I understand, the prices are outrageous but fuck it? Where else can you smoke weed legally? You HAVE to try good BBQ (use yelp for good local spots) and if you're in California stop in a taqueria and get yourself a super burrito al pastor. You'll thank me later.
I dont think prices were too awful in CO, and when I was there, at my workplace I had customers come in and give samples of their stuff to the employees even while they were on duty you can tell who works a dispensary if they are covered in nugs; ask those people for a sample of their stuff and you'll be set also YES to the barbecue, find some in the south/texas, it'll be a treat
Go try all the food in the area. Louisiana has some nice food if you like spicy.
Your in america, not much too do but eat unhealthy shit food and fire your guns while drinking a 40 of cheap wisky, the american dream! have fun!
-snip nevermind idiot got perma'd anyway-
If you go to California eat at Carls Jr I haven't eaten junk food as tasty as the stuff they serve there. Wendy's is shit tier though. Oh I am getting nostalgic of my vacation in California, time to heat some MW burgers :v:
Come to New York! We have the Adirondacks! NYC is a massive tourist trap. If you do manage to get this far in the country - you're better off shopping in the local mom and pop stores. They have delicious food
Sorry OP I'm gonna jump in with the same question. I'm also a britbong and I'm going NYC with my college in March, and we're staying for 5 days. What kind of things should I make sure I experience during that time? PS - I'm 17 so that limits things a bit.

NY is more so a place shopping, albeit a tad more expensive than other parts of the US.
