Facepunch, I need your help getting out of this shithole.

Do you have a confirmation of where in Sweden you'll end up?

Well, I'm at Maiquetia Airport right now, I don't think I would be standing here, thinking of all the friends and family I would be leaving behind, after all this effort. I thought it would be easier, but it really isn't, even though I know it's for the best. I'm braving into a new world for me, a place where people don't know me, where they don't speak my language, where culture and laws are different, all because of some few oligarchs who wanted to steal my future from me, just as they stole all the food, all the cash, all the power. It won't be easy, but I can't fail, there's too many people counting on me for me to fail.
I want to thank everyone for their help, their tips and guidance, without them I would have never been able to complete this trip. I'd like to thank Ta16, AtomicWaffle, Zleesh, LaughingOrange and many more, who really went out of their way to help a stranger in need, I am forever grateful of what you've done to help.
In about 2 days I should be at Sweden, I'll post an update once I am there, detailing the trip. But, I suppose I can confidently tell you now, Facepunch, I am out of that shithole.
Best of luck from here!
Keep thinking positive.
It must be horrible to be forced to leave your home because of the greed of a few. All the best to you!

What an uplifting post, great to hear of your success. Best of luck to you.
Lycka till!
When the bank stuff are fixed and all that shit, give me your bank number or paypal ID.
if/when you get a bankid, get swish and i can send some your way - it's a super easy way to transfer money
some random thoughts (i don't know how much it applies to people without permanent residence though);
- https://www.reddit.com/r/tillsverige has a lot of useful info
- tele2 (phone carrier) has recently upped their data caps by a lot, for 149 sek/month you get 20gb 4g
- apply to arbetsförmedlingen as soon as possible, there is a shortage of jobs and housing in general though, so try to branch out with people to get contacts
- pay for a-kassa, if you lose your job you will get like 80% of your paycheck until you get a new job
- housing loans are extremely cheap right now, buying a house with a loan pretty much makes profit with no effort at the moment
- get an ica & coop card, their grocery stores are the most well-spread, and you get bonus points on your purchases if you swipe their card
- ica nära / coop nära are expensive, try to shop at forum/supermarket/matcity/xtra if possible
- some paper money recently turned invalid, check out for those
- never pay for more than 100kr for pizza. oxfilé is usually fake
- get a monthly public transit card if available and you travel back and forth a lot, it's usually much cheaper
- taxis really don't go less than 150kr even if you go just a block away
- workplaces are required to give at least 25 days of paid vacation a year, use it!
- doctors visits are 200 sek, but healthcare offered is free. don't hesitate to go if you're feeling really bad. call 1177 for medical advice.
- if you're under a certain age, dental care is free too, and you can get a rebate otherwise (sometimes).
- check your electrical deal, it can sometimes be very overpriced
- school is free, use it to your advantage
i'm not sure i'm really helping with this, but dead time at work is dead time v:v:v
So, how did it turn out for you? Are you set up in Sweden yet?

I wouldn't touch that link with a 20 foot pole.
If you need a lot of info for things flashback.org is a great swedish site for infos and such. Basically its the swedish version of something awful. Be careful though, some parts of the forums make it look like /pol/ but its very diverse.
I'd love an update! Keep at it, and we welcome you!
Right, so, update! I've been living in Sweden for about 3 weeks now, with intermittent flights to the UK for like a day just to get paperwork done (That has been quite a pain and has been eating away at my savings, but, well...It's something that I need to do). The people at the student residency I was staying at turned out to be quite friendly, and they helped me out giving me some furniture they had laying about, so, now I have a desk and a bed, and that's basically all I need for the time being.
Zleesh went out of his way to welcome me to Sweden, literally coming over after an hour drive to visit bringing me some Swedish food I should taste as well as some other household items, which is above and beyond what I expected anyone to do. It definitely speaks wonders about Swedish people though, which I've all found to be quite friendly and welcoming, and Zleesh, I can't thank you enough, it is really great to have somebody looking out for you.
As for me, I've been mostly staying at the student dorm, just programming, living by the day. I still feel some separation anxiety, from leaving my entire life, and my family behind, I wish so many people were still here with me, but I've sort of fallen in love with Sweden, from the very moment I landed. I felt so alien, being on a place like this where everything is beautiful, green and clean, where technology is commonplace and accepted, intermixed with the rich ancestry of the land, I think this is where I wanted to live all my life.
So, once again, I want to thank everyone who made this possible, it's been quite a journey, it's hard to even fathom that just a couple months ago I was feeling hopeless about my future as Venezuela crumbled, but I had so many people motivating me and backing me up to do what I once considered to be an impossibility. I'm safe now, and I'm happy that I have a future ahead of me.
I still want to do a Youtube video (or videos, depending on how it is received) explaining the Venezuelan situation in detail, you'll have to bear with me as I have to save up some funds to get a decent camera, and I don't have the time to do them just now. I have a designer friend who wants to help me out with the editing, but if I'm going to do it I want to give it my full attention so I end up with something good enough to show, I owe the Venezuelan people that much, the least that I can do for them is tell the world their story.

Good to hear that you're doing good! If you ever decide to explore Scandinavia further sometime in the future, drop by Oslo and send me a PM. I'd love to hear some stories from Venezuela.
good stuff
Man, that right there just made my evening. Good to hear it turned out so well for you!

Congrats on scaring people away from legit job opportunities. Not sure if your pole reaches, but you can also check out their less scary twitter page https://twitter.com/remote_ok :goodjob: Here's another spooky and creepy link that might help OP make some money and advance his programming career: https://www.jrdevjobs.com Oh sooo scary :godzing:

Super happy for you man, keep us posted! :D
This thread is 2 years old yo.
@fnox how are you getting on now?
Why would you bump this post after 2 years? Reminds me that "2 years later"
Last seen 2 months ago, hope he shows up.
His last post from 8 months ago lists his location as Sweden, so I'm sure he's fine.
