you never seen requiem for a dream?
[editline]20th November 2011[/editline]
i just realized the episode where [sp]gus gets blown up/half his face blown off[/sp] is called "face off"
No I havn't. I want to but havn't gotten around to it.
I watched the first and second episode and I got to say that it starts out really interesting. Will definitely continue watching this.
Just finished the second season.
"oh god oh man oh god oh man..."

I think season 2 is a bit dim compared to the rest but by god it's one of the best TV series that has been on in recent years.
I saw Hector on Immortals and he talked. Was weird.
And I've seen both of those movies, guess I just forgot his face after a while.
The cool part about him being in Scarface is that Steven Bauer was also in it, he's the guy who plays Tony Montana's best friend Manny, and he plays Don Eladio in Breaking Bad.
Just finished watching last 5 episodes...HOLY SHIT...
Breaking Bad slips right into 2nd spot on my favorite shows list, after LOST that is...
Spent the last 2 weeks watching the entire series from start to finished; really meant to get around to it, but just never had the time.
I was expecting something on par with Mad Men. What I got was on par with The Wire. I was expecting good, I wasn't expecting -that- good.
[sp]Gus' death was absolutely perfect. I love how the teddybear in season two shared his facial injuries. What a stunning end to the character.[/sp]
I don't think the Wire was half as good as Breaking Bad. Sure, the wire is fantastic, but the narrative in Breaking Bad is so much better. it's closer, more personable, and smarter.

BB is my favorite show currently on television but i think it's hyperbolic to say that the narrative in BB is better than that of The Wire. David Simon created one of the most intricately composed narratives of all time with The Wire, and he's by far one of the greatest writers to grace television. BB has incredible writing, but I wouldn't dare say that it's a smarter show. Closer and more personable possibly, but The Wire has a different aim than that of BB--it's a carefully knit drama that has a massive scope and an incredibly accurate and realistic take on societal problems. it balances a billion subplots and has a huge cast of characters, all of which are interesting and have their own converging storylines.
one thing I would give BB is that I find its characters more interesting, but that's to be expected with such a narrow scope.

Kind of a given that if you're going to have a small amount of characters then they better be a really interesting small amount of characters.
You see this is why i loved lost. i don't think i hated any one character, and i loved most of them. this comes from my experiences of rewatching it recently. pretty much the only character i dislike so far is ethan, but he totally gets what's coming to him in a number of really satisfying ways. but every other character so far i love. jin, sun, hurley, micheal, jack, kate, claire, charlie, sawyer, john, boone, shannon.. pretty much every main or sub-main character that's in the first maybe even second season i hold very dear to my heart. to be honest though from what i recall (i'm not that far into my rewatch where he appears yet) ben was my most favorite character out of all of them though, second to jacob. mostly because i love jacob's actor though.
plus ethan's gaze when he happens upon claire and charlie just before he kidnaps them is the fucking weirdest face i've ever seen.

Honestly, apart from Locke, Ben & Hurley, none of the characters really had any discernible personality to me. Although I will say that I enjoyed the flashbacks far more than the on-island scenes, since they were much more character driven. In these scenes I actually found the characters far more believable; I actually gave a crap about Desmond off the island for example.
And I didn't like the replacement of plot development with mystery. The first season is utterly incredible, but it's clear that by the third they were flailing wildly.
I think Lost is an incredibly important show, I'm just not sure how good it is.

that was my point. The Wire is a more important show and functions just as well as a character study, but BB has a more interesting cast because of its narrow scope
I asked for all the Breakign Bad seasons for Christmas from my family. If so, I'm going to have one long marathon.
I only finished Episode 5 of Season 1. Funny thing is that my Brother, Mother, and Father all finished the first 3 seasons (We only have Netflix) and I need to catch up big time.

Yeah right
I love the Wire but jesus people it's not the holy grail of tv shows. No matter how intricate and well written the narrative is, it's entertainment value will never surpass something like Breaking Bad.
I don't think anything will, unless Vince Gilligan does something else afterward. But I highly doubt even he can top this, it's his masterpiece.
[sp]I wonder what Mike will do in the next season, seeing as he's still in Mexico.[/sp]
Every season got a higher rating and more views than the previous, i just cant wait to see if he manages to pull it off again
it will truly be the best and unbeatable tv show out there

Yeah I know it's not the holy grail of TV shows there's some cheesy lines too but all things considered The Wire is a lot more interesting and thus more entertaining than BrBa. Imo anyway.
BrBad sometimes overwhelms you with some ultimate badassery and that's entertaining too alright, almost stepping over the line with like Gus taking sniper fire from miles away :v:

Well Gus knew they wouldn't kill him. They couldn't, they needed him to agree to their "contract" of sorts. They could kill his henchmen all they wanted, but not him. Thats why he stood out in front of the sniper, to get him to stop shooting his men.

I know that..
I personally don't see that as stepping over the line. But I suppose that all depends on where people see the line.
