• Teacher assigned a "Tech Free Day." What should I do to get out of it?

It's not that hard to survive without technology, turn off your computer, go out and enjoy the nice weather
You tried to make the point that a life without electronics is a healthier lifestyle. Which is total garbage.
It depends on the person. BUT going out with the technology that the teacher listed will not kill you. And the majority of the posts in this thread seem to be reacting to the assignment as if the teacher is asking them to go live on a deserted island for a month. [editline]25th April 2011[/editline] I'm not saying that life without electronics is healthier. I'm just saying that going for one day is not as difficult or life changing as some of you are making it out to be.
OP is spoiled.

And the majority of the posts in this thread seem to be reacting to the assignment as if the teacher is asking them to go live on a deserted island for a month.
It does not depend on the person, considering the fact that you can access nearly any piece of information you need with electronics, it is not what is unhealthy. What is unhealthy is when people are not exercising or eating the proper foods for them. It's not the fact that you are sitting in front of your monitor browsing the web that you are getting fatter it's the fact that you are eating Cheetos while doing it.
I'm not saying that life without electronics is healthier.
Then obviously, the answer would be no, wouldn't it? From your stance, anyways.
You also missed the part where the question is biased as all hell.
Shit's getting too complicated for me right now, should check again once I'm out of bed :v:
Smoke crack to pass the time.

What you are arguing for is periods of reflection and introspection, getting away from it all, getting out of your comfort zone and experiencing new things. I agree with what you are saying, but I disagree with the seeming position of teacher as anti-technology. Honestly, there are a million better ideas to promote what Pascall is saying. (which is something which I think should be promoted)
Only a pussy can't go 24 hours with technology. Just go outside and do sometime. Drive around, go drink some beer. Have fun.
My History Teacher assigned our class to not use any Technology for 24 hours over the weekend. I find this completely ridiculous and irrational to the entire class. We are currently studying media throughout history, and we watched a film by some ignorant bastard explaining how "all gamers are addicted to the computer" and "virtual worlds have replaced the real world for this generation." I am obviously not going to stop using all technology (including music, phones, radios, televisions and the movie theater), so what should I do to get out of the assignment. If I mention it to my parents (which I am required to do tonight) I will have to do it. Short Version: Teacher commands students to stop using technology for 24 hours during the weekend, what do I do to get out of it. List of what I specifically not allowed to use: - Phones - iPad, iPod - Laptop/Computer - ANY GAMING DEVICE - TV - DVD Player - CD Player - Camera (of any kind) - Movie Theater - Digital Alarm Clock
man up and fucking do it it sounds interesting. kinda like staying up for 5 days
It does not depend on the person, considering the fact that you can access nearly any piece of information you need with electronics, it is not what is unhealthy. What is unhealthy is when people are not exercising or eating food that can be detrimental to them.
I would say it does depend on the person, considering, if someone is so reliant on social interaction via an Xbox or a PS3 that they refuse to eat or exercise properly, then the dependency on the system could be a good factor as to WHY their health is suffering. Note, I said FACTOR. Of course it's not only going to be the console's fault, but it is a part of the issue. This is a rare case, but it is a case that exists and that does not apply to everyone. It does happen, however. Removing the console could either be detrimental or it could be the one thing that forces them to do something else, and in turn, help them to understand ways to solve their health issues. Like I said, this does not always occur. BUT it does. There are people who are so dependent on tech (and I understand the usefulness of the internet and computers, but video game consoles or your music player generally aren't wealthy distributors of information - barring iPods with internet access) that it can affect how they take care of themselves. It is not the main issue, but it is a factor as to why they are the way they are, and you can't really deny that. There may be other ways to solve the issue without the removal of the technology in question, but that's not really my point. My point is, one day will not be detrimental to you unless you have a career that requires daily/hourly use of said technology.
Have you thought about going outside yet?

It's like complaining that a car's engine is crap when the wheels are flat. My point is that it is a fruitless endeavor made by a cantankerous hag with an agenda.
If you're REALLY deadset on not doing the assignment, then just.. don't do it. You don't need to go through the trouble of forging signatures or anything. Just don't do it if you are adamant about your positioning on the issue in question. Maybe the teacher will give you respect points, who knows. Doubt it though.
Sleep 8 hours Friday night. Sleep 8 hours Saturday night. Sleep 8 hours Sunday night. There. Done. Or you could just chill out for a day. Sleep. Eat. Think about shit. Sleep some more. Draw. Play with your old Legos or something. Eat again. Sleep some more. And / or write an essay explaining how much shit in our world runs on "teh ebil teknolojy", and how minimal the negatives are when compared to the positives, if there even are negatives for some of the stuff.
Yes, play with lego.
That isn't a problem with technology that is a problem with the person which can just as easily happen with anything that does not require electronics.
Ok well what I'm saying is that it CAN happen with technology and it DOES. That is the teacher's point, but the only thing is, she's over-exaggerating it as if tech is a demon from hell. And of course it's "fruitless". Half the shit you do in school is fruitless. But if you refused to do everything you disagreed with, you probably wouldn't have a very good grade.
Guy is obviously a real Digimon Believer, watch out for those crazy cultists.
I heard that!! :argh:
Doubt it though.
If the teacher made a question which is biased against technology then she will no doubt try to punish him for a conflicting opinion made through not doing the assignment. Lie.
Go OUTSIDE for once. Enjoy the weather. Ride a bike. Go swimming. Or just go roll around in the dirt like kids should.
I listen to an MP3 player while doing all of those Except swimming or rolling in the mud because that would ruin it I play the music out of my vehicle instead
So many pages... I just want to repost the same thing as everyone else though. How the hell would they know? This is such a stupid thread. Teacher requests you don't use technology. You don't live with your teacher. Do whatever the hell you want.
If the teacher made a question which is biased against technology then she will no doubt try to punish him for a conflicting opinion made through not doing the assignment. Lie.
Some teachers are a lot more lenient than you think if you surprise them with something they didn't expect. In a GOOD way that is, I don't mean just telling them to "piss off" because you don't like the assignment. Unless OP knows that the teacher is a straight up bitch or something. An alternative could be to maybe present an argument with the teacher by showing her a lot of good uses of technology. Or instead, get a friend to go without tech for you and have him write down whatever he did and then use that to do the assignment.
I'm glad Pascall is arguing with some one not just banning him like alot of mods do when some one disagrees :v:
The way you're freaking out over the prospect of losing any bit of technology sort of proves her point.
I'm glad Pascall is arguing with some one not just banning him like alot of mods do when some one disagrees :v:
No current mods do that
I'm glad Pascall is arguing with some one not just banning him like alot of mods do when some one disagrees :v:
why would I ban him I don't really disagree with him. It is a pretty pointless assignment. I'm just saying it's really not that big a deal if it's worth a big grade. Passing the class would probably be more important to me in the long run.
Technology, for this assignment, is defined as - Phones - iPad, iPod - Laptop/Computer - ANY GAMING DEVICE - TV - DVD Player - CD Player - Camera (of any kind) - Movie Theater - Digital Alarm Clock
No board games allowed...darn.
Maybe, because that hurts my feelings.
Pascall you're only 11/13 fab
Pascall you're only 11/13 fab
Eh good enough
Go for a walk, ride a bike, read a book, make a drawing, play an instrument, relax... it's not that hard, you're overreacting.
Roads and shoes are technological advancements. Bicycles are technological advancements. Books, book-making, and writing are technological advancements. Pencils, pens, markers, crayons, and paints are technological advancements. Musical instruments are technological advancements.
