My insurance on a full license is something around 3x the total value of my car. (Per year)
That's roughly £2000(ish) on a 38hp 750cc car.
Although my current provisional insurance is only £50 a month.

What company?
What company?
pmuch any
i have usaa
(usa)
my sister has had her license for 2 years now and has a good student discount and her insurance is 128/mo
are you sure you live in the usa?
I'm paying $120/month
I'm 17 and have a '67 Ford F-100
$117.17 a month for a 1988 5.7L V8 Full size chevy pickup, no air bags, manual everything except the transmission, and a 1985 Toyota Celica Supra 3.0L I6, no air bags, two point belts up front, and lap belts in the back, with an alarm. Oh and I'm about to turn 21.
Only way I managed to get mine cheap (UK btw) was to use classic car insurance. Any car over 20 years old and under 1500cc. Started out with an E reg Escort Ghia 1.4 I promptly wrote off, got a Triumph Acclaim then went down to a Micra since I was hardly doing many miles and didnt need a big car. First year was 860 quid down to 600 second year.
I tried to insure a V reg Corsa 1.0 I bought and had fresh MOT'd for 150 quid. Insurers quoted me 4000 on TPFT. Not sure how our insurance system works but they're pretty much forcing me to drive older, most likely more unsafe cars as a new driver...

It's (supposedly) based on statistics. So the more people like you crash corsas, the more they charge to insure it. A corsa is probably one of the worst cars you could go for. I remember doing a quote on a 1 litre polo or something and getting £6500, my 2 litre turbo rover costs £3100 simply because nobody in my demographic would be caught dead driving a diesel rover. And yes my insurance is fucking expensive but I've got it as cheap as I possibly can with nobody in the family who drives :v:

Because they were all caught dead driving Rover 100's. :v:

I got my Corsa because it had the cheapest possible insurance quote, even when I do live around hundreds of chavs. It's insurance group 1E. So pretty damn low.
Out of curiosity does anybody know of any bigger cars that are cheap on insurance? I know land rovers are fairly cheap for some peculiar reason.
Looking to get something more interesting for a while once I have a full licence.

Since I'm pageking have a picture of my current car.

I pitty you UK drivers. The only cars you can afford to insure are all awful.
Tell me about it, I was overtaken by a camper van the other day.
I once hit 75 on a downhill stretch.

You're making my Ford Escort sound like sports car.
A friend of mine claimed that he reached 120MPH in a rusty 95 Ford Fiesta 1.1.
He's either bullshitting or the speedo was knackered like everything else on the car.

Has to be because even I only reached 115 with a 2.0 liter with a tailwind from a severe thunderstorm.
I've just turned 19. I have a 2005 Volvo S40 2.0 TDi (140bhp) and my insurance is £1K as the main driver :P Winner

That's pretty much the car I plan on getting, good to hear they're relatively cheap insurance wise.

HOW
HOW
It's all based on average risk. You don't see many chavs racing around in diesel Volvo's, therefore it has a low average risk.

Last time I checked the 2.0L s40 is at least insurance group 12 or 13 (in the old system)
That's not exactly cheap
I pay 900 full comp with mods on my vts
but you drive a saxo
how does that have any bragging rights whatsoever
[editline]7th September 2012[/editline]
god saxos are literally the worst car on the road. fuck. i'd rather die than be you mate.
worst build quality i've ever come across. horrible flimsy plastic, disgusting fabric, useless chassis and engine. if you actually have man size feet ie 10 or above then good luck actually driving it as the pedals are so close together that you'll cause a 3 car pile up at a junction with some surprise left footed breaking, they're designed for petite french lady's stilettos.
just get rid of that car, crash it into a wall or something. cos one day you'll thank me, you'll look back and say "thanks, i looked a complete cunt in that car. you saved me a lot of bother".
I think he may have hit a nerve just then.
just thinking back to everytime i've ever driven/been in/seen a saxo, painful
[editline]8th September 2012[/editline]
i know i'm shallow, but i've literally refused lifts in saxos as they're so embarrassing
Personally, I just hate the Saxo's with the stupid bodykits, oversized exausts, 'slammed' etc
I have a 106 insured on Admiral Multicar, fully comped for £840 a year. I'm 18 and I passed my test at the end of August.
Ahh, things have picked up since I turned 25.
