The smartness system was worthless. Having someone's highest rating right next to their name made it too easy to judge people.

The old rating system gave rise to elitism and ratings whoring. Every fith post was trying to grab a 'Zing!' rating or some stupid shit.
As for the smartness system, people used to completely disregard what was said if the user if 1. did not use English as their first language and 2. just to make witty fucking zing jokes.
The old system was bollocks, the new system, while not as 'fun', does work.
Screw the ratings system, get smartness back.

For every post where you spelt everything correctly, you were rewarded 1 point. For every word you spelt wrong, 'Smartness' was detracted. (33 per word, if I remember correctly) from your beginning pool of 5000.
