If you analyze everything you find fun to find out why it was fun then you must live a very dull and depressing life.
That makes no sense. If you know what you like and find fun then you can go off and find more fun stuff thats similar. That sounds pretty great.
How so? By knowing what I find fun I can find more similar products to have more fun. Sounds opposite of dull and depressing to me.
My point is that I can have fun with something without having to sit down and decide whether it was fun or not.
My point is that I can have fun with something without having to sit down and decide whether it was fun or not.
So doesnt everyone else, that doesnt mean you cant know why its fun. You dont even need to analyze that shit, you should know off the bat why something is fun, you are enjoying it for a reason.
"fun is just a buzzword for when you don't have anything good to say about the game, stop using it" If you like something you like something. If you don't you don't.
So doesnt everyone else, that doesnt mean you cant know why its fun. Seriously, this is that whole "fun is a buzzword" joke but you're not using it ironically.
"fun is just a buzzword for when you don't have anything good to say about the game, stop using it" If you like something you like something. If you don't you don't.
The argument here was "I find it fun therefore it's good", by that logic I can say "I find it boring and dull it's not good".
Why is it fun?
The video is about the very subjective nature of art, and how what one person finds enjoyable may be found as a negative to someone else; that despite the objective technical nature of video games, all art eventually arrives at subjective conclusions that vary from person to person. By asking him to objectively explain why the game was fun is to totally deny the spirit of the video and to embarrassingly and comically show how short-sighted you are being. You don't understand the central thesis of the video and have expressed no desire to. You have no right to continue to talk about it.
The argument here was "I find it fun therefore it's good", by that logic I can say "I find it boring and dull it's not good".
Who the fuck said it's objectively good? That argument was never made.
hold q to knockout
Who the fuck said it's objectively good? That argument was never made.

DmC was good though. Combat was very fun and enjoyable.
Jesus Christ, the nitpicking is strong with this one... thread.
Admittedly it does take a little too long in that regard. The blackjack takedowns, I mean.

"DmC I liked" stopped watching, burned pc to the ground.

It's your fault for assuming he was saying that objectively. I can say something was good without using the words "in my opinion." You have a brain, people don't need to hold your hand and tell you which statements are facts and which are opinions.
Not too sure about the game itself, I find it a bit too "modern" in gameplay. Not too interested in it at the moment. However, the PC port and all those extra options are incredible, way above most games. Pretty much setting an example to follow. That HUD though, UGH. It looks SO bad. It has no stylization at all. Looks just like a HUD made very early in development when buttons are just boxes with gradient and prompts just being flat text.
So do you agree that the game is objectively bad?
Of course not.
Of course not.
So in an analytical way explain to me why the gameplay, story, and other mechanics makes this game an objectively good game.
So in an analytical way explain to me why the gameplay, story, and other mechanics makes this game an objectively good game.
It doesn't. Nothing can be objectively good.
DmC can objectively be described as having simple combat, very questionable scenes and an inconvenient weapon system. How much each of those elements affect you and how much the rest of the game (notably the story) affects you is up to individual taste and a lot of that taste will be influenced by whether or not you've played previous games in the series and how much you appreciated those. Your opinion can be as extreme as you want, it won't change the fact pretty much the entirety of it is up to personal preference which is influenced by a multitude of subjective factors. Except for very rare games which are particularly god awful, and even those are due to subjectivity, especially on what exactly is worse than other things and how amusing the game can still be. I think Thief is a terrible game and I respect people with different opinions, it won't take away the fact I think it's a terrible game and my reasons for disliking the game (or any other game for that matter) are perfectly valid.

The melee combat of Thief 4 may be kinda simplistic and weak, but it kinda seems more of a design choice to encourage a "purer" form of stealth. It makes it so that directly confrontational melee, as in actually fighting a guard, is unappealing to the point where it discourages you from trying to directly duel them as opposed to adhering to the stealth principle and doing it from behind like a proper rogue.
So, I'm sorry if it was stated, but I skipped past the 11 minutes of settings, but what the hell is with the UI? Does anyone else think it looks terrible? The blue font is out of place everywhere, and the hotbar is oddly bad, with more of the odd blue font and just a bad gradient for each item background. At least that's how I feel about it.
Ya but do you really need 11 minutes to show settings we see all the time, it happens in so many videos. How deep can you get into whether or not a game has an AA setting or not? At least he annotates where to skip to now.
Except how many games actually have a good options menu? There's a LOT of ports that blow dick and have no options and it is absolutely NOT consistent at all. I like him doing it.

What I don't understand is why they bothered putting all the fancy cutscenes in for something that should essentially never happen. There is also the issue of ledge takedowns which are a guaranteed kill. Speaking of options and such, another design decision I do not understand is the choice to make the camera zoom in slightly when ducking - in a game where most of your time is going to be spent crouching. Riddick did this best in my opinion by actually massively increasing the FoV when ducking as well as giving early on a slight night vision bonus (which later on is replaced with actual night vision).
I wonder how polarized the opinions here are going to be now that the all-mighty total biscut says the game is pretty good. Me, personally? It looks pretty hype. I might pick it up during sale 'cause I've already got the rest of 2014 in gaming budgeted out and can't really spare another 50 bucks.

By itself, Thief seems to be a flawed title that someone might get enjoyment out of, but overall there's not actually much in the way of nonlinearity in figuring out how to progress; because the fanbase of the franchise is so hateful of the mere existence of the reboot and its various radical changes, however, people are blowing things way out of proportion and spreading that all over. People saw some leaked streams, and the net result is people running around parading "THIS GAME IS THE WORST GAME OF 2014, 0/10 GG" before treating anyone that disagrees with them like utter shit. The same thing happened with DMC, which is a pretty bad reboot in terms of story, but for a gamer new to the series or never that tightly in with it, the gameplay can be enjoyable aside from the Angel and Demon Weapon nuisances. Reviewers generally gave it mixed to positive reviews, people cried foul that it was a horrible game and those positive reviewers were paid by Capcom. Something sorta similar happened with Sonic Lost World, which was more of a gameplay reboot as a bland Sonic game and even not that much of a Sonic game, but because people saw streams before having played it themselves or other factors, some acted like it was the second coming of Sonic '06 as one of the worst games in the entire franchise. That one did get negative reviews, and the Sonic fanbase actually did the polar opposite at first by claiming the reviewers were paid to make the game look bad, before they finally did get their hands on it and generally agreed it was mediocre.
Personally, I'll do the same. Not because I don't have the scratch to throw (I do, but I don't buy games at the AAA full-price if I can help it), but because my machine functions based on tape-reels and punch cards in comparison to current tech. By the time my machine has enough RAM and an up-to-date graphics processor, the game will probably be on sale, and I'll actually be able to run it, let alone have it run like butter. Space isn't the issue since I have a 1TB hard drive. I do have a fair bit saved up, so I'm actually wondering whether I should actually buy a Titan (they seem to be £800 for new on Amazon). Has anyone on these boards ever had a Titan in their machine?

Not impressed honestly. It looks nice, I'll give it that.
Independent of the game's actual quality, there seems to be no real reason for this to have the Thief name except this stupid only-for-name-recognition remake shit which I'm absolutely sick of at this point.
