How much does the RAM size matter for these things? Also, for Titans or 780ti, will I need some form of liquid cooling or will I fine with my current fan? I think it's a G7 Power Extreme (580 watts).
Independent of the game's actual quality, there seems to be no real reason for this to have the Thief name except this stupid only-for-name-recognition remake shit which I'm absolutely sick of at this point.
The worst part is that its just fucking Thief. Why not something after it? Every other Thief had one, they did the same shit with fucking Tomb Raider. Im sick of reboots just having the original games name. Come up with something better.
This actually doesn't look as bad as I thought it would for a while, but it still doesn't look as good as Thief 1 - 3 to me. I'll probably get it at some point, I'm sorry for acting like a brat in the last few threads.
That is so damn true. It's a damn annoying trend that is more alienation than it is advertising. I honestly don't understand why marketing folks do this, but maybe they're actually lemurs that are constantly distracted from inventive naming because of low-hanging fruit. This would be a very appropriate analogy if someone did a new Batman film just called Batman. I'll leave the rest to your imaginations.
Im sick of reboots just having the original games name.
Why do you think they called it a reboot? Genius. Look at all the movies and games that share the name of their reboot.

I really don't tend to care about FOV sliders because generally you can manually change that shit in configs but holy hell, native support up to 110? that's p. damn neato [editline]24th February 2014[/editline]
I wonder how polarized the opinions here are going to be now that the all-mighty total biscut says the game is pretty good. Me, personally? It looks pretty hype. I might pick it up during sale 'cause I've already got the rest of 2014 in gaming budgeted out and can't really spare another 50 bucks.
I'm not gonna lie, I've been waiting for this video for a while just to see the reactions. I'm really excited for the game but most of the things I've seen people say is "no reviewers think its good lmfao its shit", so I'm incredibly happy to see someone with a big voice who actually thinks it's great.
considering all of the artistic elements of the game (i.e. "The Wounded Burrick Bar", fictional slang etc, even if some ones that are native to the Looking Glass ones are missing), why shouldn't it be named Thief? simply because it's 'next-gen' ??
Because it's confusing and there's already another game in the series with the same name. Why couldn't they just call it "Thief 4" or add a subtitle [editline]24th February 2014[/editline] Regarding the game: Thief 4 is one of those games that people really want to be bad for some reason. It's like Titanfall. The only real problem with it is that UI, it looks like an Assassin's Creed game. And it moves when the camera moves for NO FUCKING REASON. And I feel like they've really shoehorned QTEs into it, like mashing E to open a window.
I'm really mixed about this. On one hand I'm a hardcore thief fan and I feel like if the story is so bad in the new one, why not just redownload The Dark Mod (for FREE) and play one of the excellent fan missions for it. On the other hand, however, it doesn't look like a bad game, it looks like it would be enjoyable. I might pick it up during a sale - though I probably won't be able to get the feeling of disappointment out of me while I'm playing because I'll probably end up comparing it to other games in my head. Jesus fuck why couldn't they just make a new IP? They literally could have pretty much changed some names, said it was inspired by thief, and it wouldn't be getting the massive bitchfest that it's currently receiving from so many people. I'm sure people would be like "Hey, it's not perfect but it's the closest thing we got to a new thief game!"

Also I think your power supply can manage, however. Judging how old it is, I recommend getting a new one, plus gold if you can.
Looks awful to me but actually the options at the start seem like a great idea + what was said in the follow up video.
I think my current CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, should I upgrade to Intel Core i5?
Looks awful to me but actually the options at the start seem like a great idea + what was said in the follow up video.
well, to summarize just about what people are critiquing about the game: is it a Looking Glass Studios title? no. is it Thief? yup. is the gameplay enjoyable? absolutely. is the story consistent? uhm, it's pretty darn spotty but it's not god-awful.
I think my current CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, should I upgrade to Intel Core i5?
Absolutely. I recommend the i5-3570k. It's unlocked and @ 3.4 Ghz with a 3.8 GhZ boost. I have it OC'd to 4.0 with no problems.
well, to summarize just about what people are critiquing about the game: is it a Looking Glass Studios title? no. is it Thief? yup. is the gameplay enjoyable? absolutely. is the story consistent? uhm, it's pretty darn spotty but it's not god-awful.
And for TB that's usually the most important thing. Very much a gameplay-focused gamer. Personally I'm not too fazed by weaker graphics either. Unless the framerate makes the game laggy, I'm not too put off by stuff like jaggies (it ain't the case with Rise of the Triad, since it doesn't run all too well, but I probably just need my upgrades). It's still nice if things can look nice, but it generally sits on a lower rung of priority in comparison to gameplay and framerate. Having a good FoV is also important for shooters, of which I've been playing a fair few recently, like Loadout and the original Deus Ex which I've gotten back into.
Deus Ex is probably my favorite game of all time but I would be lying to you if I said it didn't look like shit.

Im saying it just adds confusing when its just the 1 word shit when their are already multiple games in the series. It just adds confusing when talking about the games, its minor but its the same shit with Tomb Raider. Same with Simcity. Plus every other Thief had a neat title, would have at least been nice if this one did as well.

I don't see what's so confusing. Unless someone decides to troll some poor sap on eBay or something.
I still think of it as "THI4F".
I think my current CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, should I upgrade to Intel Core i5?
Upgrade it, by the looks of it. The CPU will really bottleneck a 780ti/R9 290x. Delta616 recommends the I5 3570k, I agree as well.
I still think of it as "THI4F".
But '4' is 'A' in haxor 1337 speak.
But '4' is 'A' in haxor 1337 speak.
Well the people who made it are a bunch of t4ffers.
I'm extremely impressed. I'm very happy he went through the options menu. It seems like a meaningless little thing, but it's still pretty important, and god DAMN those options. You can customize shit I've never even heard of, they give you free reign with the FOV, you can customize shit in the launcher or in the game itself, so on and so forth, it's just great. And custom difficulties with all those settings? That's just awesome. As for the game itself, in particular the HUD, well, I'm not impressed but I don't mind it that much. It looks decentish. However, I'm one of those people who thinks the immersive HUD mod for Skyrim is a necessity, so for me, the less HUD there is, the better and more immersive, regardless of how good it is. And, they're letting me disable as much of it as I want anyway, so it's golden. The only thing I would like is the ability to set HUD pieces to be able to be toggled on and off with a hotkey. Gameplay wise, it looks great. They give you plenty of tools to stealth around, and it looks hard, but fair. There are a few things, like traps, that would be cool, but with the amount of shit you get, it's not going to hurt the game in any great extent. I never played Thief before, so I can't comment on whether a Thief fan would be disappointed at all, but if they are, I'd say it's more than a little unreasonable. This is a genuine, 100 percent stealth game and it looks poised to bring Thief as a series back to life, and it looks awesome, even if it doesn't call itself Thief 4.

Like it really became an instant favorite because of how great they were, I went in 100% blind, pretty sure I bought 3 on a steam sale on a whim. So seeing what happened with this Thief it is disappointing. I can see how the gameplay seems great if you never played the others, but after seeing it in action, its rather shallow compared to the first 3, especially 2. The customization is great, especially the hud shit, I will give it that, I wish more games did this because its fucking fantastic. If you are gonna play this, go for it, but I strongly suggest playing 1, or at the very least 2 afterwards or even before. I would easily put Thief 1/2 right next to HL1 on how great they are. 1 has a lot more monsters that can only be killed and supernatural spooky shit along with the best writing 2 is focused 100% on pure stealth and stealing shit from mansions/banks/houses/warehouses/etc... with the best level design in the series. Monsters are generally just cute cameos. 3 is a weird mix thats not as good but still a good Thief game and very faithful. Kind of a bitch to run on modern machines sometimes.

Even today it's one of the most immersive game's I've played.
Ya, in 2 on trail of blood I never felt so immersed in any video game before. Just a huge level that took me like 2 hours to complete, all taking place from some weird ass cave with only like 3 enemies being weird apemen shit, along with eyeball plants. To ending up to some pagan village that was recently slaughtered by a few guards. Only to come across pagan ghosts who live out the last moments of their lives. To eventually ending up in some forest that changed seasons based on location. Its fucking great, probably my favorite level just because of how relaxing and massive and interesting it all is. And the ost http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmYCyW1iKgI
