Super Ultra Rare Collectors Edition Half-Life 2 Beta Models

These are all models contained in the beta, but are very old model file versions so normally you're not able to open them. I found a way though and managed to view them and their original animations.
Normally the method was to decompile them and you'd get the model and you could just have the ragdoll or whatever have you for Gmod, but these are the actual original files and animations.
If you have the leak, you have these files, it was just the matter of opening them correctly.
Also for those of you interested in the Cremator, here's an old video I made of it a few years back working.

The Assassin was recycled into the Fast Zombie, the Dropship got redone, Cohrt was turned into Kleiner, and the face was reused as one of the hostages in CS:S.

Glad they kept him in there as an easter egg.

I wanna know more about Combine synths. They're creepy as hell, particularly the human synths.

Did you code that yourself?

Blueplastic is mad.
The dropship was so fucking weird.
SO FUCKING WEIRD
I love how they took the scientist's face model and put it as one of the hostages in CS:S.

afaik that was the scientist before they replaced it with kleiner
All of those animations would be useful for modding teams who are trying to re-create the BETA like the Missing Information team and GABEN.
I have never seen or heard about these in my entire life.
The first assassin model has an artwork in the Raising the Bar book.
The inclusion of these models would have made the already great game ever more great!
Thread reminds me of the thread from Postal in which he shows off the super early models of HL1. Always interesting to see how games progress in development.
I'd really like to try the leak out, too bad I never found a way to download it.
The assasin's movements are very similar to the EP2 Hunter's.
You can tell just by looking at it that the assasin model was later recycled into the vortigaunt.
Just to clarify, I know that vortigaunts have been around since Half life. What I meant by this is that the shape between the assassin model and the vortigaunt model is very similair. It wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination to guess that Valve used the assadin model as a base to start from for the newer vortigaunt models.
You simply cannot shake off the feeling that HL2 had the potential of being a much darker, larger, and interesting universe.
I have all of these.
Half of them I ported to the retail myself.
Would anybody like one?
I'm running an open beta archive.

Too bad it got leaked.

Could you upload all of them somewhere? They're impossible to find.
Too bad it got leaked.
That's not why it was changed at all.

Oh, someone told me it was because of that :v:

In the leaked version, many of the more recent maps look very similar to the released game.
Alot of the old ones were never touched since 2002. Ones like c17_04_41, d2_airex, d2_under, and many more of the cool ones.
So by the time the game was leaked the changes were already made.
Upload them!
I could if you really wanted me to.

I've read Raising The Bar (which is an incredibly helpful and interesting book, too bad it's so expensive. Luckily enough a friend of mine had it and handed it over to me for about a week before taking it back) and they mention that even though they would have delayed the game even without the leak, this unfortunate event still pushed to widely rethink most of the parts of the game.
Doesn't mean it would have been delivered as an incredibly different version compared to what we now know, but if no one had leaked the game, some of the content would have been left unchanged or barely changed from the beta.
They pretty much dropped everything in the leak development, not only because of the delay, and the time it would take to finish the game. Half of the maps were not working, models and NPCs would refuse to work, you couldn't spawn your weapons with impulse 101 you had to make a .cfg or manually do it in the console. Most models were outdated and had to be updated, some maps, when loading, would just crash the game. More reasons of the stuff that was dropped, was because some of the NPCs and/or weapons wouldn't really work out gameplay wise. The original physics cannon was mostly useless unless your were in e3_phystown or d1_town. Handheld antlion thumper was pretty much useless. The Ar1 or "AKM" was pretty much not needed, and the SMG1, MP5k, and OICW were, again, useless. Sniper rifle was not needed. Combine guard gun was definitely not needed, due to it being so rare in the game. Handheld tau cannon was recycled to the Scout Car.
Sorry for the wall of text, but if you learn about this shit, it gets way more interesting of how HL2 would have been without all the cuts

dropship looks like something from KOTOR
It's amazing how low quality the maps and shit were in the beta. I mean, they were just beta maps, yeah, but you'd think they would have more detail or something. Almost everything is made out of brushes. The older maps look like Half Life 1 maps.
The Beta combine Elite reminds me of the Volus from Mass Effect.

It still gets on my nerves that Half-Life goes from killing aliens and fighting soldiers, to Fighting Sudo-Human Soldiers and only seeing the aliens about 5 times. I would've loved a more dark and oppressive atmosphere.
Still love the beta models, that's why most are being remade and making a come back in my game
Has been many videos like yours, but im sure more beta awareness can't hurt in the community
Every time the beta comes up, everyone goes on about how HL2 would've been way more awesome if all this stuff was in there and how cool the old atmosphere was.
But the fact of the matter is, all this stuff was cut for a reason. And considering how cool it all looks, they were really good reasons. Raising the Bar explains everything in detail, about how cumbersome some of the enemies were, how a lot of these designs didn't translate into good gameplay, how many weapons were ultimately redundant, how entire areas sounded interesting but ultimately weren't fun to play, etc. HL2 would've still been a good game, I think, but the way it turned out is much more refined.
That and there's always the natural desire to have what we can't have. If HL2 was released with the old story and atmosphere, and we found out the content and story from HL2 as we know it today in the beta files, everyone would be wishing that that was the HL2 we got instead. Beta content, especially for a game that went through such a crazy development as HL2, is always fascinating, but in actual gameplay it wouldn't have been nearly as good (and possibly downright terrible).
