Emotions being caused by chemical reactions doesn't mean that they are chemical reactions. They're something else entirely. The result of those chemicals, yes, but the chemicals themselves they are not.
Facepunch isn't one person. And why shouldn't people who don't believe in god believe in love? [editline]2nd March 2011[/editline] have fun with your empty life
Because god = fairytales, and love fairytales.
Because god = fairytales, and love fairytales.
No, God is something for which there is no compelling evidence. There is tons of evidence and even proof of the existence of love, and it is something anybody can experience. There's a huge difference.
well yeah but what does that have to do with anything is musical enjoyment non-existent as well?
Sound waves hit your ear drums, which in turn send a signal to the brain through neurons to release a chemical that lets you enjoy music.

I disagree because we love things and people because they make us happy, the release of dopamine makes you happy, thus dopamine being released is love. I'm sorry that I am a biochemist.
Sound waves hit your ear drums, which in turn send a signal to the brain through neurons to release a chemical that lets you enjoy music.
except i don't enjoy all music does that mean there is no such thing as liking certain types of music because i don't see how you can believe in one but not the other [editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
I'm sorry that I am a biochemist.
i'm sorry you are so pretentious
Emotions are just chemical reactions in your brain.
Yes You are not getting those combinations of chemicals in your brain, you are getting different ones.
except i don't enjoy all music does that mean there is no such thing as liking certain types of music because i don't see how you can believe in one but not the other
Depends on the sound waves. We are talking about music here, not lyrics by the way.
Yes You are not getting those combinations of furniture in your brain, you are getting different ones.
What?
Depends on the sound waves.
I don't think you understand what it's like to be human. Nice to meet you, mister automaton.
Pretty sure my 4.0 in two human physiology courses gives me some sort of a credibility in understanding human functions. "But... It's only 2% alcohol..." "Doesn't matter, it's just a combination of chemicals so it is obviously the same thing."
Pretty sure my 4.0 in two human physiology courses gives me some sort of a credibility in understanding human functions.
wow you are such a nit fyi i'm actually studying for my md so i outrank you in knowing about human physiology srsly i'm the doctor king step off fool
Not a physical science.
oh so that means it's invalid rite wrong
What?
Sorry, I fixed it iPhones suck
Pretty sure my 4.0 in two human physiology courses gives me some sort of a credibility in understanding human functions.
Obviously not, if you can't understand something so simple. Emotions are caused by chemical reactions, but they themselves are not those reactions. They are something more than physiological, they are psychological. Understanding human functions gives you no credibility in understanding what it is to be human. Try experiencing humanity sometime.
fool is trying to bust out his 4.0's in 2 courses like it mean something TRY ME son i'm the jesus
Oh boy I got a 4.0 in calc, does that make me a supreme mathematician?
Oh boy I got a 4.0 in calc, does that make me a supreme mathematician?
You now outrank einstein

You have no clue what you are talking about. Everything is made up of matter. When you feel this thing called love, it is just dopamine released in your brain, kinda like doing heroine. It keeps on being released for a period long enough to reproduce.

If you feel like you have been embarrassed and want to change the subject then get out.
Emotions are just chemical reactions in your brain.
You're just a lump of atoms. In fact you're mostly empty space between zooming electrons. Doesn't mean we don't think you qualify as something bigger...
This is a discussion. If you feel like you have been embarrassed and want to change the subject then get out.
embarrassed? what
So thoughts are made of matter?
Yes. Look up some nobel prize lectures on memory, they might help you out in understanding this.
embarrassed? what
o MAN he pwned u with dat 4.0
You're saying that love is more than just a physiological thing. I disagree because we love things and people because they make us happy, the release of dopamine makes you happy, thus dopamine being released is love. I'm sorry that I am a biochemist.
Except it's clear that you have no idea what love is. Love isn't an emotion. It is a connection with another human being. Love is when your brain hardwires itself to put someone else in front of you in terms of self-preservation. Do you think parents would risk their lives for their children just because their children make them happy? No, the brain of the parent has be rewired to the livelihood of their child before their own. When something has the potential to hurt the child, the parents acts instinctively to protect them. No conscious thoughts are processed. The love of a partner, at the core, is very similar. Their happiness and livelihood takes precedent to yours. Suddenly, life is no longer about what makes you happy, but what makes them happy. What you're mistaking love for is infatuation. Infatuation is when you're practically addicted to a person because of that dopamine they provide you. Whenever they are around, you're happy, therefore you want them around all the time. Love isn't defined by distance or interaction. If you love someone, you can be separated from them and be just fine as long as you know they are happy. Also, grades do not signify intelligence or knowledge, they signify how hard you try. Nothing more.
You're just a lump of atoms. In fact you're mostly empty space between zooming electrons. Doesn't mean we don't think you qualify as something bigger...
Something bigger? Someone's being a bit egocentric.
