they're using the adoption of alien tech as the inspiration behind current actual real-world future-esce devices
such as touchscreens, smartphones, drones, etc.
kind of a neat concept
Wow they killed off Will Smith.

I really loved the first one. The trailer looks kinda meh... Not expecting much out of this.
I really like that they actually stole alien tech to advance our own.
According to the Tie-In site, Touchscreen Smartphones, Drones, Bladeless fans and Airport Security scanners were all made thanks to Alien tech :v:
humans with space guns, fuck year
I don't care if it is an unnecessary sequel, it will still probably be a fun movie to watch with my friends. I still probably won't head to the theaters though. Also, as people said, it still has Goldblum so that's good.
According to the website, New Zealand wasn't attacked.
Might make time to watch it, if only for the "let's drink beer and watch an action film" quality time with friends.

Bill looks so out of place. Anyone Recognize the leaders? I only recognize the PM of Canada and the President of Russia. And Obv the Fictional president of the US.
Tony Blair, possibly Boris Yeltsin (sp?)
Looks fine honestly compared to the original it will probably be just as good. Remember the original Independence day was no work of art, at best/worst it was a marginal step above a B movie just with a higher budget that everyone came to love because beating the shit out of aliens is fun.

Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien, German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, French President Jacques Chirac, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, and British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Thing is for it's time it was new and fresh, cheese fests were not done to death back then, but now?
Far to many films than i care to remember.

I remember seeing it shortly after it came out of theaters it wasn't that great but enjoyable non the less(loved the fuck out of it but it isn't revolutionary). This sequel is at least playing true to the series so you can't fault it for that.

So apparently none of the Major World leaders (or their successors in regards to Tony, he wasn't PM in 1996) died in the attacks :v: . This image is meant to be after the attacks.
At the least, it'll be a fun hard sci-fi movie, of which we've had a disturbing lack of.

This is defiantly not hard sci-fi.
So... it's an XCOM movie? Sold.
So... it's an XCOM movie? Sold.
If XCOM hacked into the alien mothership using a Macbook, sure :v:
Wait do people actually hold the first movie in high regard? It's pretty bad.
The first movie is one of those films I just watch because. Not entirely sure why, but once and a while I just want to watch it.

I'm willing to bet that he was cloned as some part of fail-safe within the hybrid fighter.

iirc the execs stated that they asked will smith to be in the movie, but he declined because he didn't want to do a sequel/sci-fi movie.
It looks painfully mediocre. Why make a sequel to a masterpiece? There's no way you can top the original in my opinion.
Masterpiece? Independence Day was hilarious garbage. It was only entertaining for how silly it was.
iirc the execs stated that they asked will smith to be in the movie, but he declined because he didn't want to do a sequel/sci-fi movie.
I blame After Earth
I blame After Earth
After Earth is so bad it's bringing other franchises down with it.
This is defiantly not hard sci-fi.
It's absolutely hard sci-fi, all these things would realistically happen if we fought back an invasion of manhattan-sized alien battleships.
