I don't know what I just read.
Seconded, I am just going to nod my head, rate informative and leave.
that's not really how it works
What works how? Theoretically, Higgs boson should be the subatomic particle responsible for mass.
Dount that would stop the vomit.
It's not a good system, but it could be used to attach some stuff to the walls or something.
What works how? Theoretically, Higgs boson should be the subatomic particle responsible for mass.
well yes but all that discovering it would do is allow us to go "yay the standard model is correct yay for theoretical mathsy physics"
that's not really how it works
Modern science is like Farmville, you just need random crap to make super advanced stuff. CERN has sent you a Higgs Boson! Accept/Ignore OH FUCK YES NOW I CAN MAKE MY ANTIGRAVITY DEVICE
They had made plans for the space expedition to mars to incorporate a system like this, so that the crew would be able to live in a standard gravity environment without having to worry about all the problems in zero g space.
He probably nicked it from somewhere and is trying to look smart.
Or maybe he wants to share an interesting concept.
The Citadel in Mass Effect has artificial gravety by rotating. :science:
What works how? Theoretically, Higgs boson should be the subatomic particle responsible for mass.
Would only fill in the gaps in the "Theory of everything".
Actually if the magnets are powerful enough you COULD actually be pulled down by them without having any metal on you.
I love you.
Actually if the magnets are powerful enough you COULD actually be pulled down by them without having any metal on you.
Well, in theory you can produce a magnet powerful enough to rip out your body's hemoglobin and iron atoms.
I felt cool because of my high school physics class when I understood all of this.
Well, in theory you can produce a magnet powerful enough to rip out your body's hemoglobin and iron atoms.
In theory you could travel to another universe where magnets roam an endless plain in search of prey.
In theory you could travel to another universe where magnets roam an endless plain in search of prey.
Sounds like a plan.
The problem with a lot of those models Eudoxia, is that they're always spinning, which makes it difficult for ships to dock. If you've read Ender's Game, you would know that the Battle School works like this and that right in the center is the Zero G battle room, which doesn't rotate with the rest of the station. Readers model of the Battle School. The inside rings rotate, while the surrounding outside stays still so that ships can dock.
Shouldn't a strong enough changing electromagnetic field induce currents in your body and break down the water inside you into hydrogen and oxygen
Shouldn't a strong enough changing electromagnetic field induce currents in your body and break down the water inside you into hydrogen and oxygen
And cancer.
That torus thing is pretty clever.
Do you mean that this gravity is made from the spinning things because of the force pulling the object towards one side? So in a larger environment the area taking in the force becomes the floor?
Rotation is a pretty difficult thing to do. Any changes in the mass distribution result in a change of moment of inertia and thus in changes in torque of the whole thing. Short: Move around and the thing starts flipping and spinning around like crazy. Give the ship a shell, and only have the innards turn? That way the outside of the ship isn't spinning, but the living compartments are.
America should work on a space station that will rotate with enough speed to produce 5x earth's gravity and train regiments of soldiers there to turn them into super warriors. Man that shit would be awesome. Fuck you no I didn't steal that idea from DBZ
I <3 your space threads.
We need a science subforum
Remove the furry forum and put in a science one People who vote this- 1). Piranhamatt2

They could even be used to store energy and rotate the ship without spending fuel. edit: Your ship's going to look like a gyroscope

Got a spinning chair and a wheel? Or just watch this:
