What if we treated all athletes the way we treat skateboarders?

The way I see it is that the road is for transport (Cars, bikes ect) and the pavement is for walking. I don't have a problem with people riding/skating on the pavement unless they are going too fast or acting like dicks. The only time I ever ride on the pavement is when the road I am riding on is just a suicide death trap, and when I do ride on the pavement, I ride slowly, make sure people see me and most of all, if it is too busy, I WALK. The other week I saw a bunch of cyclists going through a crowded area just shouting at people for them to move, the road was completely empty.
that's just one example of the acceptance problem here in our world.
As a former skateboarder, I assure you these are pretty irrelevant. The first two were in designated areas, and the third is an invalid comparison since skateboarding is noisy and far more dangerous for bystanders. Not to mention grinding up the benches and curbs ruins the cement, and when we wax up stuff to skate, it leaves nasty black residue.
Plus our whole culture is pretty much classic delinquent.
bullshit you skateboard you're on facepunch
Give me an example of this please.
Brooklyn Banks.
I should say as of recent, Brooklyn Banks. The BB has been notorious for skating up until late 2010, when they started a construction project to completely ruin some of the nice parts of it.
I don't really see how. You dont see cops going into skate parks and busting it up. The ad is just some cheap attempt to advertise to skaters, and I hope most people see how horrible of a comparison this is. But seeing how a lot of skaters seem to have a persecution complex I doubt they will.
Yes, the adverts are silly. they are however not cheap, Nike have professional and amateur skate teams. This isnt a cheap plug for that 'oh so 90's' trend of skateboarding. it still exists and there is big money in it.
Also, i skate private and public property. the most trouble i have ever had from a police officer was in a designated skate area. someone complained we were making too much noise.
I love skateboarding. There is nothing like bitching to my parents, or better yet, actually earning the money to spend on a plank of wood with wheels on it.
It is also rudimentary that you then go and slide around on it. Walking is soooo old. I am going to wait for walking to be 'old school' before I stop buying a peice of wood with wheels. I also may invest in jeans that are my size.
I don't really have respect for skateboarders because they all act like dicks even when people politely ask not to skate on their property and shit. So fuck em.
This is almost - no this is just as generalized as racism towards black people

Brooklyn Banks.
Oh god, THUG nostalgia.
Just because a town lacks proper skating facility's dosent give them a right to screw up property.
i completely agree, but its gonna happen anyways, so instead of bitching about all the kids skating around wrecking shit why not just build a place for them to do it instead
Especially in this economy, people would be screaming and yelling that the township is wasting money :colbert:
i cant be sure but i would suspect in the long term it would be saving money because there would be less skaters ruining incredibly expensive pieces of architecture
Should've done it with cyclists.
The kinds that wear skin tight clothes and always slow down traffic.
Also the tennis one makes a lot of sense, build something that's pretty much made for skateboarding and then put signs up that say "no skateboarding"
Well you see, tennis courts are made for tennis. Parks and other stuff like malls are made for shopping and walking your dog etc. There's this magical thing called a skate park. You skate there, it's like playing tennis on a tennis court. Try it sometime.
