this thread sucks - any jerkoff retard dick can go to the wikipedia article if they want to know more about the titanic. you didn't need to bring the wikipedia article here.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/58/View_of_the_stern_and_rudder_of_the_TITANIC_in_drydock.png The paintings and drawings dont really show the scale of the ship.

I happen to suffer from a phobia of shipwrecks and the ocean. And walking into this thread is incredibly tormenting. That picture the OP posted of the Stern side of the ship, all busted up and everything highlighted, it makes my heart race really fast. This is a curse, because I'm so fascinated by the Titanic, yet I'm terrified of shipwrecks and the ocean. And for the record, the fact the stern side photo is lightened up and you can see everything, it gives me really bad nightmares. All rusty, green and pieces everywhere. It's so fucking freaky man. The Bow side of the ship picture ain't all that bad, only because I can imagine the bow plunging into the sea floor, slicing it up all cool. And I don't know why I feel like saying this, but this ain't nothing compared to how bad my phobia can be. Submarine's/Submarine wrecks are the worst, trigging my phobia to such a point that I run to my bed and actually cry under the sheets.

ITT: We post pics of ships sinking in dramatic fashion.

The Titanic is 12,600 feet underwater, which is 2.38 miles so there is no sunlight at all. It's definitely in worse shape than what the painting shows.
I still think that the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald is the best boat wreck story ever. I also just rememberd that music will never be this good again.

But it still strikes fear into me, as it is how I imagine the Stern part of the ship to look if "full bright" was enabled. Oh and Hardpoint Nomad, thanks a lot. Now I won't be sleeping tonight.

The largest diveable ship is the Britannic. Only 30 deaths for such a large ship. Most of those deaths occured when 2 lifeboats happened to drift in the path of the propellers.
I was making it in Minecraft, before the Drunken Miner's server went down. I'll probably start it again.

I remember reading that Titanic's collision could have been avoided if they didn't reverse the engines. The ship had three propellers and the center propeller was located behind the rudder and was not reversable, and because they reversed the engines the center propeller stopped and thus crippled the ship's turning ability. Rudder was too small in the first place, and reducing waterflow made a bad situation worse.

The Olympic class ship (RMS Titanic, HMHS Britannic, MRS Olympic)came a few years after the Lusitania. The little known Olympic was a badass. Served as a troop ship in WWI and sank two German boats by ramming them. It was scrapped for parts which I find kinda sad after having such a legacy. Though the Lusitania is a huge historical figure in the events of WWI.
Could also have been avoided if the Titanic hit the iceberg head on instead of turning at the last second.
Would have prevented the ship from sinking sure, but such a sudden stop would have definitely caused injuries and even casualties among the passengers and crew (not to mention the damage to multi-million dollar cruise vessel). Also the people on the bridge most likely could not see the iceberg when the crow's nest spotted it, and had to react according to protocol, I highly doubt the first officer would have said "aw fuck it, it's probably too late, just ram it" in any situation. Might have saved the ship, but he would have been in a ton of shit regardless for the damage/possible casualties. They probably had faith in the ship's technology too, at the time it was virtually unsinkable if you think of the absolute worst case scenario an engineer might have thought.....a direct collision? one compartment lost, possibly some rivets popping in the second, no problem. Another ship colliding from the side, hitting directly between two compartments? Two compartments lost, possibly third and fourth suffering leaks. What happened to the Titanic was basically even worse than the worst scenario they could think of, and I doubt the bridge crew could have anticipated it either.
By the way, that's the baddy:

This one is my favorite: http://www.kenmarschall.com/
They should have went in the summer. In the summer the water would've been warm, meaning no icebergs would have been there :downs:

The best version of the film is the 1943 Nazi propaganda version (which James Cameron's was heavily based on) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanic_%281943_film%29
