The ball goes across the line not in the goals.
France 16 - 59 Australia
embarassing

ITT:Ignore the fact THEY HAD to mandate pads in the first place for player protection.
That means people were actually being severely injured in the first days of American Football, deaths were extremely common at the start of Football's career until they started better protection.
I'm not saying one is not more bad ass than the other but I don't seem to see stories about head injuries causing Rugby players to go retarded.
Rugby is a lot better than football imho. Coming from an American.
Rugby is for faggots who are fat and muscly and tall, and want to punch and tackle people.
Edit: Shitstorm incoming.

Exactly. If they had Rugby players as big as Football linemen and linebackers, Rugby would use pads as well.
Rugby is awesome.
Anyone got a new season ticket for the 2011 Super League?
Well, my injury list.
Broken arms (both)
Broken right collar bone
Right knee ligaments snapped
Dislodged shoulders (both)
Fractured eye-socket
Broken nose
Endless concussions
'Burst' windpipe
Broken fingers
Broken toes
Stamped head
Endless cuts and bruises
Technically I should be dead, but I'd do it all again for this sport. I don't know how I haven't lost any teeth.
I'd play it if I wasn't so skinny. They don't have a rugby team around here where I live in Norway, but they do have an American football team, though those guys are twice the size of me. I'd get raped.
It was too complicated for Americans to comprehend so they made everyone run into each other at the same time, American Football. as a Welshman It's in my blood to support the Wales rugby team. (mainly because thats the only sport Wales is good at). I realised why American Football players wear that "suit of armour" when rugby players don't. either a) they are pussies or b) they are avoiding getting hurt, thus avoiding the typical american stereotype as to sue after an injury :3:
Rugby FTW! can't really decide what team I support the most, I like them all :v:

My friend, who is a total nut about Britain for some reason, likes rugby, because, well, Britain plays it.
He says I'd probably be good at it and that I would be a lock I think. Whatever the position that usually catch the balls in line-outs are called. I've told him that if he can get enough people together I'll play, bu he can never find enough.
I like football better, European, of course.
I like rugby too though, I don't like it being compared to US football, ever
Rugby-loving elitists need to watch this video:

In summary: you get hit with 3 times the force by players in gridiron football as you get hit in rugby, but you get hit around 3 times more per game in rugby than you do in gridiron.
Also, if it weren't for pads, gridiron players would break bones on every tackle they make. And despite pads, players still regularly break fingers, ribs, collar bones, and more either without noticing or being sent back into the game just minutes after the injury.
If they have gotten better players for rugby like the All blacks instead of some gay as club, there would be a huge difference.
I play American Football. I would play rugby to if my school had it.
Rugby - The real man's sport.

Also, I remember a match, one man had blood pouring down his face. Few minutes off the pitch to take care of it, and then he's back on.

No. Watch the video posted above, their to spread out the hit, they don't take away much of it though.
Also, anyone who thinks a rugby player couldn't handle American football is off his gourd. Put a rugby player in pads and teach him the game, he'll do just fine in a comparable level of gridiron play. Take an American footballer, strip his* pads and get his wind built up, and he'll do just fine in a comparable level of rugby play.

IIT:People assume no pads = Manlier sport.
With the RBS six nations grand slam action underway I thought i'd update the Rugby thread a little.
The weekend scores went like this.
Week 1 (4th-5th Feb)
Ireland Vs. Italy 13-11
England Vs. Wales 26-19
France Vs. Scotland 34-21
Excellent weekend of rugby. I really think Ireland were lucky to clinch that one, but it was obvious they would give it to O'Gara when they went behind.
They have a rugby program at my school. Its my first year of playing rugby ever.
I love this sport, even more than american football.
Its much more fast pace than american football, and much tougher. IMO its a real man's sport. I played my first rugby game this past Saturday and I loved it. My coach put me at outside flanker.
Some people at my school think its a sport for pussies, which I totally disagree on.
I'm a big Rugby fan only been playing 3 years, but my friend introduced me to it 6 years ago; I play for my high school in New York, yes high school rugby in the US.
Probably late, but basically rugby is football for men
what do I think about rugby?........accidental penetration.
That video in the OP is either staged or just plain damn fake.
remember some skill showcase video of some american football players having a "Pick me!" type of deal going on, saw another video proving it to be fake and I laughed. The video in OP reminded me of it
Not a fan of rugby, I prefer lacrosse. However, when you are pissed off it is really fun to watch.
Fucking love Rugby Union, manlier version of gridiron.

Also, I'd go for the all blacks or the Aussies, naturally.

Yeah it was done for a bit of fun for the rugby 24/7 channel in New Zealand.

I know i was on the edge of my seat the whole match! Hopefully Ireland get it together for france next week!
I don't see the point of comparing rugby and (American) football. It's like comparing mobile and home telephone, each has advantages and disadvantages. In rugby you won't get hit as hard as you do in football because the tackler isn't wearing pads, so a hard tackle is bound to hurt them as well, but in rugby you have to deal with huge, gaping cuts and bruises more often.
Still, I prefer rugby.
I'm a football fan (English definition of football) - as for Rugby, Rugby Union I can tolerate, but Rugby League...lol - probably my least favourite sport.
