Tampere has this one dude who is always wearing a toy snake around his neck. Just the local village idiot or whatever. :v:
This one time we travelled around the outskirts of Tampere in a bus visiting various local bars, we met a guy who dresses like an old cowboy. He was pretty cool guy.
Could be the local drunk/crazy guy? Every city has one :v:
This is helsinki, we have way more than one.
Onko Suomessa safety razoreiden maahantuojaa?

I had an idea today. You know those retarded 'omg finnish is so different' pictures like this shit: [t]https://scontent-arn2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/14329973_772284639578792_6563499566438865177_n.png?oh=d4a99e42a17933c6c4f68dd90f1b8ecc&oe=58677994[/t] I bet you could write a program that: - takes every word in the English dictionary, cross reference it with the translated word in every other indo-european language. - see if they're nearly the same in every language checked - then check if it's horribly different in finnish - generate a LOL OMG SO DIFFERENT picture for all these and then you have a HILARIOUS MEME MACHINE! the thing is that since finnish comes from the uralic language branch, you're gonna have so many differences. I can see it's funny the first time you get an image like this. Maybe even the second time. The third time, I ain't having that shit.
Being in the process of studying Finnish you actually come to realise that Finnish even shares quite a few words with languages you wouldn't even imagine to be related: Polish-Finnish Apteka - Apteeki Cebula - Sipuli Lekarz - Lääkäri Łyżka - Lusikka Okno - Akkuna What I also find refreshing about Finnish is the consistency of it. Its not like Polish where if you aren't born knowing the ten trillion noun cases you're basically fucked. In many ways it's much easier, although I had difficulty one time trying to say "Factory" when I didn't have a dictionary on me, so I said "Konetalo" in the hopes that was the right word.
Many loan-words from germanic languages usually end with an 'i' I've noticed. apteeki, kioski, helikopteri, appelsiini, banaani, elefantti, and so on. I think a bunch of these were taken from Swedish, but correct me if I'm wrong. but then I'm really disappointed how 'metro' isn't 'metroi'. oh wait that would sound super retarded, so :v: http://www.uusikielemme.fi/loanwords.html omg you spell it pitsa, love it :joy: I also love how french fries are just 'frenchies', ranskalaiset. and how beautiful is 'hampurilainen'. maybe we should just call pizza 'napolilainen' or however you spell 'something from Naples' in Finnish.
every time someone spells it "pitsa" i cringe until my face has contorted into itself several times over our word for pharmacists, "apteekkari", is also very similar to the archaic term "apothecary" - of course this sometimes causes some amusement for me, because the Warhammer Space Marine combat medics are called Apothecaries, and so i can't help but imagine some lanky guy in a doctor's uniform running around the most grimdark bombed-out barbed-wired corpse-coated future battlefield imaginable, giving out aspirin and cough syrup our word for king, "kuningas", is (IIRC) a proto-germanic word borrowed from a language or dialect that no longer exists sometimes i feel the finnish language was built entirely upon the basic idea of "if it works, don't fix it, keep it simple and have another drink"
AKA exactly as it should be :v:
it's an ugly and impolite thing and i wouldn't have it any other way
Learning the language (after Polish and Latin) is like discovering a wonderful new drink with wholesome flavours after what you are used to (or in this instance, Euroshopper Energy drink) I have to master it so that I may talk to my girlfriend and her family in her tongue

Been learning quite a bit of Finnish at the pub oddly enough, prolly because I only have the confidence to try speaking it when hammered. That, and it's an easier situation to approach some random person for a conversation than other places. Despite some mild improvements, I still feel like i'm part of that Hungarian phrasebook sketch from Monty Python.
I'm kinda upset that duolingo doesn't have Finnish. It'd be nice to have an idea of what any of this means.

Mitä vittuu miks mul on näi kylmä? [editline]edit[/editline] Tätäkään, en ymmärrä.
I dunno if y'all have heard about this (maybe?? I don't know how popular this is for all I know all of everybody in Finland knows about it) but I just discovered a game called UnReal World I'm gonna be playing later http://www.unrealworld.fi/ it's a roguelike survival game based on (or in) ancient Finland and it features a bunch of shit based on Kalevala, thought anyone here who hadn't already heard of it might find it cool

It looks pretty cool, if it's like Dwarf Fortress with graphics that don't cause blindness and controls / UI that don't cause brain tumors then I'm interested. Of course, you won't be able to respond unless you speedrun that Hotline Miami in <1hr wearing a Nigel-mask.
Your first task is to-" PERKELE! Aina saa muistutuksen siitä miks tosiaan uBlock on ensimmäisiä asioita mitä uuteen PC:hen laitetaan heti selaimen jälkeen. Tulis ny saatana edes muita mainoksia kuin tuo.
