well its official, my family is moving to the chicago suburbs come feburary. but im allowed to stay here and ill probably do that
but is there any bullshit 10 round cap thing in Illinois?
No, Illinois has no mag cap.
Except for Cook County, they pin their mags at 0 rounds.
so the only huge dumb things in Illinois is longer waiting periods?
so the only huge dumb things in Illinois is longer waiting periods?
Firearm Owner ID Cards as well. Also, they are looking to tax guns annually.

The way I see it, California is way worse in general. The only REALLY bad thing here is Cook County.

I mean, I have a Nugget and a SxS 12ga; my grandpa has 2 XDm's, a Mini-30, a S&W Model 19, S&W M&P .40, 10/22, and a single barrel break 12ga; my uncle has an 870, a S&W M&P AR, and a Bersa .380 (he's a priest too :v:); my other uncle and my dad's friend both have too much to list. We all live in Illinois.
maybe it wont be so bad then, getting a ID just sounds ridiculous though
Picked up a springfield xds (not mine, too lazy to get a pic) last week. Put 300 rounds through it and I love it. Just need to get my ccw permit in the mail now :D
Well damn, I really wanna get a handgun for shooting hogs with and just to have a nice handgun in general. I'm really stuck between a Glock 21 and an H&K USP in .45, They both feel great to me but I like that the USP has a safety but its also $800+ as the glock is around $500. Should I get the USP or the glock?

I say Glock. I'm not a fan of manual safeties (trigger discipline is the best safety, etc etc). It's just another mechanism that can fail. Also, price. Shooting is expensive so saving money is nice.
Edit:
But hey, personal preference. Buy what you want and you'll enjoy it.

Have you considered the 10mm Glock (Glock 20 iirc)? I only ask because I would rather have it if I wanted to hog hunt, and, assuming you don't mind the 10mm recoil, the gun prices aren't too different and the 10mm can be down loaded to compare to 40S&W... just an idea..

I did consider a 10mm but I wont exactly be hog hunting with it. This will basically be incase I get charged or see a group of hogs coming my way. I just want a big ass round to stop the thing long enough for me to run or so I can pop another round into it/them and have enough time to run for the 4 wheeler.

I like the expression of the guy behind him.
"This is my life right now."
v:v:v
Also for dogs, we have a few stray dogs out there that are vicious and will try to bite you. My dad shot a pitbull cause the thing tried to go for his leg.

10mm Auto puts out the same energy as a 44mag and people hunt hogs with those. You could do it
10mm Auto puts out the same energy as a 44mag and people hunt hogs with those. You could do it
Will a 10mm stop it dead in its tracks? Also how much is 10mm compared to .45?
Mostly seems to be in the mid $20s/box
I think I'll just get a .45, the 10mm seems nice and all but ammo seems a bit scarce and the .45 is a few dollars cheaper and I like target practice every few months ( and I pop off ALOT of rounds ) It wont be just for shooting hogs if they show up, it'll practically be MY first handgun and I think I might end up going with the USP that sadly doesn't come in 10mm.
When I saw 53 new posts, I expected another stupid argument over dumb shit.
I'm proud, there was no such argument. Brings a tear to my eye.

What are Michigans handgun laws like? Do I need to get a permit or anything, even for a private sale?

Unless you have your CPL you need to get a purchase permit from your local precinct for any handgun purchase, FFL or private. Your purchase permit is good for 10 days, during which you need to purchase your handgun, then bring it to your local precinct for inspection and registration.
Once you get your CPL, the hassles of the purchase permit go away

If you're going for a first handgun I'd get a .22lr. It's actually quite hard to shoot a handgun accurately and you'll need tonnes of practice
