Looks like there might be another thread, time to debate with people who don't listen to logic, reason, or back themselves up with proof or statistics.
I'll be making the new thread but don't hold your breath. I want to make it not a disaster like the first one, so it'll be a while in the making.
Please don't.
Please don't.
no can do
Especially on Mass Debate of all places, the lack of a rating system makes everything devolve into pointless screaming. Polls would at least show what people think about the argument, but AFAIK they aren't allowed on MD either.

ratings and polls defeat the purpose of MD. the point is to have a debate with arguments, not to find the consensus.
Isn't "finding a consensus" the point of a debate?
Isn't "finding a consensus" the point of a debate?
erm no the point of a debate is to get the right answer
if no consensus is found then that reflects poorly on the debaters
But finding the "right answer," which I'd say there may not be one, means coming to a consensus on the definition of "right." The point of a debate isn't necessarily to define "right and wrong," but rather to have both sides come to a consensus on an appropriate resolution.
The Debate Debate Thread V. What is a Debate?
dont make a gun debate thread god no
I just saw a video on big bore revolvers. Man some of those are mean on the wrists.

The custom revolver chambered in .500 Linbaugh is apparently half the weight of the S&W 500, and it kicks like a dying prostitude.

No consensus will be found anyways. The anti in the last thread literally ignored all factual data and statistics and the thread devolved into insults and feelings. Making another thread will go nowhere, just like the last one did.

I don't really get why some people have such strong feelings against firearms when they have never handled any or experienced any gun violence, and in general don't have any statistics to back it up. I guess it all just comes from mommy & daddy telling them that guns are bad and they have just grown to accept it without really thinking about it.

well for starters my parents didn't influence my thinking about firearms at all.
funny how you preemptively call me out for not using statistics or evidence and then instantly jump to the conclusion that I've never handled a gun or experienced gun violence or that I have some kind of Freudian aversion to guns
Don't worry guys I found a solution to my 870's sight problem.

Actually the last thread started with factual data and statistics and then devolved into insults. I'm going to preserve the former and try to prevent the latter.

Sorry, I wasn't talking about you at all. I was basically just wondering for out loud where some people's hatred of guns come from, especially when they have never had anything to do with firearms and not a lot of knowledge on the subject either.

Now all that's left is to load up some slugs and zero it in :v:
Actually the last thread started with factual data and statistics and then devolved into insults. I'm going to preserve the former and try to prevent the latter.
You can't prevent the latter unless you can get active moderation in the thread, which the last one lacked until hours after the thread was completely derailed. Unless certain people don't take part in the debate, we're better off not debating at all.
Actually the last thread started with factual data and statistics and then devolved into insults. I'm going to preserve the former and try to prevent the latter.
The issue became the OP ignored factual data and statistics that countered his argument, and that's when it devolved to insults.
Now, this thread is for talking about guns, not debating about debating gun control. We're asking you not to make another one because every gun control thread on FP eventually devolves into insults and personal attacks, we say this not because we don't want debate, it's because we've all seen it happen every single time it's come up, and insults do not make for effective debate. If you want to make another thread, then go ahead, we can't physically stop you, but let's stop debating it here.

Come to think of it, would I still have to get one for a 16 inch? Because if I don't I'd rather get that then go through getting an SBR stamp in Commiefornia.

yeah I'll stop posting here, I don't want to derail your thread or anything, I just wanted to clarify what was happening
Handgun for home defense, state is Ohio. (Possibly living in Akron, in case anyone was curious.) Have to be 21 for a CCW but I don't plan on carrying it with me anywhere. (Unless I'm misinterpreting the laws.) Any suggestions?
Price range? Looking for one you can use for fun at the range too?
Been trying to load all my .40 in that Korean surplus 31round glock mag and it's incredibly difficult to load them past 15-16 rounds. Anybody have any experience to spare?

You need an SBR stamp for any rifles with a barrel length under 16 inches in the US, it's has nothing to do with California..
Alright guys, I'm in a predicament. Wife has given me a limit of more or less 600$ to spend for christmas and I have 500$ to spend on her (got this planned out already.) I have 2 AR's, but neither of them are in .223. I have a really nice Spikes lower as is, but I'm looking to get a nice .223 upper set up to save some money at the range. I'm looking at a vltor upper and a ranier free float rail. Opinions on those? I also need a nice .223 barrel around 250-300$, any suggestions?
Looking to get a similar setup, but around a 16 inch and I'll have a AAC flashhider going.

speaking of barrel length under 16 inches I'm always thinking too hard about what gun I'm going to buy eventually and for the time being I'm thinking a lightweight polymer lower and an upper with an 11.5 inch pencil barrel and an ace entry stock would be a pretty damn cool to have. I think a loaded mag would probably weigh more than the gun

Give us a price range and we can help you out. Are you older than 21 or do you have a parent or friend who can pick up the pistol for you through an FFL, or are you planning to buy it via private sale?

I mean getting one in CA, but I also found out that my handguard is for a 16 inch barrel, so v:v:v
