The price is midrange, relative to Colt 1911s. The quality is midrange-high.

the quality is fine. they're not quite match grade but they're built strong enough to make up for it. most of the Automag series is probably more at home as a hunter's or silhouette shooter's gun than as a combat firearm, and the hardballers and related guns easily fit into the same role as any 1911 on the market.
After doing some searching, I came across a thread on Ron Paul's Forum discussing how easy it is to produce homemade firearms, and then came over an article about how in Australia, some metal-worker made guns like this:

That's unfortunate, my local store owner may be a nut who watches far too much Fox News with prices that are stupid (read $260 for a regular old Nagant, insanity), but he is an extremely informative and friendly man and an alumni at my College. Nice place to spend a Saturday... did I mention he is hardly ever open! Still nice even if I never buy there.

general rule to buying anything gun related: if you dont look like you're over the age of 60, they will treat you like a retard and probably say really retarded things

Making pistol caliber guns, especially open bolt SMGs is really quite easy, especially considering most of the gun does not need to be alloy steel. The Sten for example had an all 1018 steel receiver with a few parts made of alloy steel for wear resistance, there's a PDF out there with blueprints detailing which parts need to be made of what.

IIRC, Weaponeer has a few guides on how to make some of that stuff, but I'm unsure on how reliable some of them are.
