I am thinking in investing in a handgun for just some range shooting or household security. What would be a good handgun to start with? I am pretty familiar with weights of handguns as I have shot several before however. Give me input.
Don't think I had a chance to post this here but a little over a month ago CredeSniper, his roommate, my brother, and my now ex-gf went out shooting innadesert. Here's me shooting my Mosin. Also I don't remember if I ever posted the pics of my Mosin here. Anyone know if I did? fun weekend for sure! image should be smaller now.

Much more powerful and easier to aim
obrez's should be legal in all countries
got a problem, that m44 I bought has a hair trigger. I took apart the trigger assembly and cleaned off the cosmoline and decades worth of build up(seems like the guy who owned it before me didn't clean out any cosmoline, or clean it at all) and oiled it. But its still a little light for my tastes. Any suggestions?
Dump some gravel in the trigger group, should bring it back to normal..

Do you like .45? Or are you particular to 9mm or 40s&w? Revolver? Small? Big? Lots o' boolits? Don't need as many boolits? Answer me DAMN IT!
How do you guys shoot? As in shooting stance-wise. When I shoot my Mosin, instead of holding it in a standard way for standing stance, I put my arm out and rest the front of the gun on my arm at a perpendicular angle, acting as a kind of platform for the rifle. It seems to make things much more stable, and I can get better groupings. Kind of hard to describe in text, but I can't find any pictures of something similar.
Modified Weaver
Most people suggest a shotgun or a rifle over a handgun for home defence. Much more powerful and easier to aim
nobody suggests a rifle over a handgun
nobody suggests a rifle over a handgun
If you ignore the over penetration issue (say you live in the country or something, or are running varmint rounds through it), don't see why not
If you ignore the over penetration issue (say you live in the country or something, or are running varmint rounds through it), don't see why not
Because it's a home defense gun and it's going to be 10x more unweildy to move through a house with a rifle versus a handgun.

I don't care if it's a judge loaded with birdshot or a fn five-seven loaded with AP rounds, over penetration isn't the main issue here at all.
the color gradient of that sky is gorgeous
That's Arizona for ya.
It's a makarov
what the fuck is a makarov? looks like a glock to me.
it's a so called "saturday night special", or a gun you can go out and purchase from any street corner for a measly $25 dollars

Right..
Yet you guys went and said a shotgun's the best choice? Right..
shotguns have something over rifles though, it's that overpenetration isn't an issue. Either shotgun or handgun is the way to go. I'd take a shotgun over a rifle literally any day of the week if the situation was home defense

This literally the most responsible and safest option, for anyone. Less than $250. http://www.maverickarms.com/pages/88security.htm

Retail Price as listed on the Maverick Arms website: 233USD for 8 Shot Security. List Price on Buds: 238.96USD. And here I was thinking MSRP was the highest price you'd see.... my world has collapsed on its self. Unless your shotty is a bb gun or made of wet tissues.
Or you could get a Moss 500, 870, 590, etc etc and load it with 00 Buck
If you got an extra 500+ dollars, sure. Otherwise, get the Maverick.
Or you load fuzz balls, water balloons... or confetti. Speaking of which why is there no confetti shotgun shell. I mean that would make a shotgun the most versatile tool around. Also would need a duct tape dispenser and a WD-40 can in the stock... I think tomorrow I shall call the patent office. [editline]28th November 2012[/editline] My automerge....
I run a 590A1 with #4 buck first and 000 buck last. birdshot wounds are too shallow to reliably kill an intruder. I'm perfectly capable of punching a hole in a wall with my fists. If my ammo can't do that, I'd rather use my fists.

[editline]28th November 2012[/editline]
So you start off by saying over penetration isn't the issue, then you say it is?
overpenetration isn't the primary issue.
So you start off by saying over penetration isn't the issue, then you say it is?
If that reasoning is too sketchy, which it kinda is, then how about because it's freakin' hard to miss with a shotgun. And what would be only a glancing blow with a .223 would out right kill with a shotty. Let's not forget it's better to fire one shot and be done with it then unload thirty.
Wait whats #4 buck and whats 000 buck?
