Wait whats #4 buck and whats 000 buck?
#4 is the smallest size buckshot you can get, 000 is the largest size buckshot you can get
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shotgun_shell
oh its the size. ok
I ordered A scope and rings and some accessories for my ruger 10/22 I bought forever ago. But The order is still waiting for just the scope rings, I at least need the cleaning kit so I can shoot it and clean up after. If I can get them to change the order, what's the main difference, if any between high and medium rings? I was getting 1" Medium rings of these: http://www.opticsplanet.com/weaver-tactical.html But they said itll be out of stock for weeks longer even. If I can get them to switch medium rings for high rings, will there be any downsides? I'm putting a Nikon ProStaff Rimfire 3-9x40mm Riflescope on a 10/22 is all, not too complicated. Thanks!
shotguns are gay [editline]28th November 2012[/editline] like i get so bored talking about shotguns. you either shoot clays or home defense you do nothing with them
To me there are only 3 really cool shotguns: Winchester 1897 Browning Auto 5 and this thing Sjögren shotgun

If its a tight/close fit in a case, it probably will not fit after mounting. If you don't mind a little extra height for an easier sight picture (iron sight picture) then go with the high. If you're concerned with height go with mid or low. I have Extra Low on my SKS. Its an Auto-5 by Remington) and a Civil 1897 Hammer gun. I wanna convert it to a M97 Trench Gun layout. I also love bolt action shotguns. Have you guys seen the 12GFH? that means 12 Gauge from Hell. Its a straight-walled .50 BMG with a Rim in a bolt action shotgun. Shooting a huge lead round. [t]http://www.gunownerstv.com/1212.jpg[/t]
[t]http://www.gunownerstv.com/1212.jpg[/t]
Oh God why?! It hurts just looking at it
Oh God why?! It hurts just looking at it
What? Don't you enjoy having shoulder reconstruction surgery?
the slug sticking out of it looks incredibly weird
the slug sticking out of it looks incredibly weird
It's rifled, so it will spin in a smoothbore barrel. The ATF has apparently approved this monsterpiece for import: http://www.guns.com/arsenal-to-import-af2011-a1-january-1-2013-launch-shot-show-11525.html
Actually, the rifling on a slug doesn't make it spin as it can't engage with the smoothbore and get the resistance needed to spin. The Rifling on a slug is so it can deform and get past the choke

So to the replies regarding the pistol price range. I'm thinking of maybe at most 500. I was contemplating on either a .45 m1911 variant or something around the glock variants. I have shot .45s, an AK etc etc. However that was literally 6 years ago and haven't really done anything since then. Plus it wasn't aiming either it was just shooting wildly in the air but I have a good eye and perception in aiming.
Since when did shotguns become poor home defense weapons? Unless I'm missing something, the best home defense weapon has the 12 gauge pump for about 100 years now. Doesn't Mossberg make defender versions of all of their pump shotties with 18'' cylinder choke barrels and pistol grips?

Late to the debate but apparently the best choice for a shotgun home defense load is #4 buck. Middle of the road, still powerful but won't penetrate through the wall and take down grandma in the next room
Late to the debate but apparently the best choice for a shotgun home defense load is #4 buck. I always keep #4 buck first in the tube. if it doesn't do the job, the 000 behind it will. [editline]29th November 2012[/editline] if 000 doesn't do the job, I've chosen the wrong gun and a howitzer would be more appropriate.
How loud are 12 gauges? I wouldn't mind a 12 gauge for home defense as long as it doesn't blow out my ear drums. I also wouldn't mind 410 gauge, but I'm not sure if 410 buckshot or slugs have any advantage over handguns.

Yep.
Where the hell are you guys that Mossberg 500s cost $500? My store sells the base model for $299, and the base model 870 for $309.
