i dont get why people don't like single action pistols. if it's a revolver, it's instant badass. if it's a magazine fed semi auto, who the shit cares?????????¿
more steps required to get it to fire, and stricter safety measures must be taken to keep it from going off in the holster
lol whoops posting from xbox. these keypads have a whole bunch of useless symbols. åé$þýúí朤¥µ
Turtledove's "Worldwar" series. Thompsons = Tommies Magazines = Clips BAR = LMG MP40 = Shmeisser Walther P38 = Luger C96 why Henry. Why.
Apparently he spent to much time writing a book and not enough time doing proper research
I don't see anything wrong with calling thompsons tommies or mp40s schmeissers the latter isn't technically correct but it's been common since the '40s
What's wrong with SAO? The only time you'd ever have to actually cock it manually is if you for some reason decocked it after chambering the first round. Also, you can get double-stack and double-action 1911 variants, such as the Para-Ordnance LDA.
I'm sorry, but without the single-action 1911 trigger it's not a 1911. Those guns get decent reviews, but they just aren't right.
Jees, all this hate for 1911's is gettin' me down. To me the slim single stack of a 1911 is ideal for carry purposes, and locked and cocked is my preferred way of carrying a pistol. I don't mind the extra tenth of a second to flick off a safety for a slim pistol that prints pretty well for me.... just my 2 cents.
Agreed. I have a Colt 1991A1 that I carry loaded, hammer down. Its quite easy for me to pull the hammer back one handed while drawing. I think "cocked and locked" is stupid... If your safety fails (as in, just like it doesn't exist.), you're in (potential) trouble. If your safety jams on the detent housing, you can't disengage the safety. Hammer down is the best carry option for a 1911 pistol.
That is what a series 80 is for. I know there are purists out there who despise the Series 80, but they are honestly just as good as a series 70. If you are carrying a gun, it should have some kind of firing pin safety. This is my view on that subject anyway. If you are cocked and locked with the safety off on a series 80, you are in no greater danger of the gun going off than you would be carrying a Glock or an XD.

It's just I prefer to not have a magazine disconnect.
I'm a series 70 man, but I definitely understand the reasoning behind the 80. It's just I prefer to not have a magazine disconnect.
Most series 80s do not have magazine disconnects, just firing pin safeties. My Colt does not have one. I know that some of Sig's 1911s have them, but you can remove them by changing the MSH. EDIT: Now that I think about it, Sigs are the only 1911 I know of that has a magazine disconnect. I could be wrong though...
I am reading Jeff Shaara's "The Rising Tide" (WW2 novel) and he keeps goddamn saying "thompson machine gun clip" and he mentioned a German vehicle pointing its .50 caliber machine gun at the Americans. Goddamn.
I have a historical fiction novel about Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front, the author apparently had the idea that the only firearm Germany used in the war was the "tommy gun".
"Cry havoc and let slip the neckbeards of /k/"
It's funny. Since it's not like he could actually kill anybody with that. It would probably just bounce off the bodies once it was stopped by cloth.
It's funny. Since it's not like he could actually kill anybody with that. It would probably just bounce off the bodies once it was stopped by cloth.
.25 ACP can kill people, and it's not stopped by cloth. What kind of .25 ACP are you guys shooting?
It's funny. Since it's not like he could actually kill anybody with that. It would probably just bounce off the bodies once it was stopped by cloth.
There was a guy who was shot with 25 ACP and it bounced up on his rib and tore through his heart. :/
My little Spanish .25 ACP Colt Pocket knockoff will penetrate solid wood to about a half inch to an inch. I'm sure it'll penetrate a bit further in gooey, manflesh medium.
So my Dad came home with a S&W Model 29-2 .44 magnum... It is the most beautiful handgun I have ever laid eyes upon and held. It apparently belonged to my great grandfather and that gun was his most prized possession next to his Sako Forrester. The trigger has a very light pull to it for double action, because the guy who sold it to him was going to do competition shooting. It was made sometime during 1975 - 1976 and my god it is beautiful. He paid $200 for it over 20 years ago and now it's worth almost $1500. Pics later after my Dad gets home and I'm allowed to bask in its glory again.

Well, do ya punk?
I've seen .25acp get stopped by winter coats
Maybe a really thick one when fired from a slight distance. I believe you can also get more powerful loads but I'm not sure. In any case saying "It's not like he could kill anyone with that" is incredibly untrue and a rather unsafe assumption to be spilling out there.

Congrats, your firearm is less effective than my $60 toy from wal mart
bb guns can also kill people and pierce cloth? this isn't a dick measuring contest
missing the point 101 [editline]7th December 2012[/editline] 22lr has more energy than .25 acp and the only advantage of .25acp is that it's centerfire
My point is .25 ACP can kill people wearing clothes. I don't know why you're arguing with me over how effective it is compared to a BB gun. I wasn't even arguing that .25 ACP could be stopped by a winter coat. It can. It sucks. But that's not the point. That's it up there. I'm just saying it can go through cloth, and even a winter coat at the right distance. The round has very little muzzle velocity coming out of the tiny pistols it's normally fired from, but at the right distance it can probably go through a decent amount of clothing. It's a shitty round, sure, but it can get the job done.

It's always better than nothing but since I'm buying my own guns I'll be getting nothing less than 9x18 or .380 for self defense
I'd only ever buy one to collect anyway. I only have the one because it used to be my Grandfather's, who got it from a friend of his who served during WW2. According to him, he picked it off a German soldier and managed to take it back as a war trophy. Apparently it was the German's personal pistol or something. Bought from Spain. I take the story with a grain of salt but it sounds plausible. The grips were cracked so he made some clear plastic grips for it so you can see the trigger mechanism working and how many rounds you have left. It's a neat little piece of shit :v:
