Tbh I kind of have a problem with rechambered M1 Garands aside from the .308 Navy rifles
Do you guys have any suggestions for (relatively) expensive lever-action rifles? Looking for a Christmas gift for my brother.

Anything Henry. They're a hell of a good time. And they're shiny. :v:
Unless of course you meant relatively INexpensive lever actions, in which case picking up an older Marlin would be a good way to go. Or if you can find an old Winchester that someone hasn't jacked the price on. I found my Winchester 1894 dirt cheap because some guy thought surface rust was the end of life for that rifle. I nodded gravely and sympathized, went home and cleaned it up good as new. Sucks to be him. :)
So since we lack an EDC thread/survivalist thread i'm going to ask here:
Which one should I use for EDC?

Welcome to the club. We have some M2 Ball over in the corner.

I carry a Gerber folder.
Use the knife on the right. You can use it as a utility hammer.
I carry a Victorinox Trekker.
imho Glock 78 or 81 is the best survivalist knife you can get
[editline]8th December 2012[/editline]
for edc I have a little Gerber folder
Gonna get one of these. http://www.impactguns.com/uma-hk-416-22lr-161-20rd-2245200-723364452000.aspx
Yay or nay?
[editline]7th December 2012[/editline]
Eh. Nevermind. Just gonna get a 10/22 and a custom stock.

I wouldn't bother with anything umarex, it's a novelty airgun company that dabbles in rimfire
Also should probably mention that I live in New York and our laws suck.
Also should probably mention that I live in New York and our laws suck.

§ 265.01 Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth
degree when:
(1) He or she possesses any firearm, electronic dart gun, electronic
stun gun, gravity knife, switchblade knife, pilum ballistic knife, metal
knuckle knife, cane sword, billy, blackjack, bludgeon, plastic knuckles,
metal knuckles, chuka stick, sand bag, sandclub, wrist-brace type
slingshot or slungshot, shirken or "Kung Fu star"; or
(2) He possesses any dagger, dangerous knife, dirk, razor, stiletto,
imitation pistol, or any other dangerous or deadly instrument or weapon
with intent to use the same unlawfully against another; or
(3) He or she knowingly has in his or her possession a rifle, shotgun
or firearm in or upon a building or grounds, used for educational
purposes, of any school, college or university, except the forestry
lands, wherever located, owned and maintained by the State University of
New York college of environmental science and forestry, or upon a school
bus as defined in section one hundred forty-two of the vehicle and
traffic law, without the written authorization of such educational
institution; or
(4) He possesses a rifle, shotgun, antique firearm, black powder
rifle, black powder shotgun, or any muzzle-loading firearm, and has been
convicted of a felony or serious offense; or
(5) He possesses any dangerous or deadly weapon and is not a citizen
of the United States; or
(6) He is a person who has been certified not suitable to possess a
rifle or shotgun, as defined in subdivision sixteen of section 265.00,
and refuses to yield possession of such rifle or shotgun upon the demand
of a police officer. Whenever a person is certified not suitable to
possess a rifle or shotgun, a member of the police department to which
such certification is made, or of the state police, shall forthwith
seize any rifle or shotgun possessed by such person. A rifle or shotgun
seized as herein provided shall not be destroyed, but shall be delivered
to the headquarters of such police department, or state police, and
there retained until the aforesaid certificate has been rescinded by the
director or physician in charge, or other disposition of such rifle or
shotgun has been ordered or authorized by a court of competent
jurisdiction.
(7) He knowingly possesses a bullet containing an explosive substance
designed to detonate upon impact.
(8) He possesses any armor piercing ammunition with intent to use the
same unlawfully against another.
Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree is a class A
misdemeanor.
section 1 is very specific and none of those 3 knives you posted fall under any of those classes
section 2 mentions unlawful use, ie. assault, murder, or threatening people with it
section 5 doesn't apply to you unless you're not a citizen
3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 are firearm related
your laws do suck, but they're barely stricter than average when it comes to carrying knives
Haven't been able to find anything about blade lengths however. That's why I'm not wanting to carry the camo one just yet, not sure if the blade is legal.

new york state or city? there's no limit in state but nyc limits you to 4 inches iirc
Upstate New York. 20-30 miles out of Syracuse. So I should be good with the 5 1/4" blade on the camo knife? Cause that's got a "survival kit" in the thing too. Compass, matches, striking paper, needle and thread, alcohol prep pads, fishing line and a hook, and I'm constantly adding to it.
This is basically my overall EDC, minus the HTC One X I took the pic with:

cameroid decided it wanted to destroy the quality (pretty bad considering it wasn't great to begin with) of the picture but you get the idea

you'll be fine with that knife
I'd carry a gun... but of course our laws are strict as hell on that regard too. I need to hurry up and move to Vermont.

I do carry a gun (glock 22) but I leave it in my car usually once I get home because even without it I'm armed to the teeth
[editline]8th December 2012[/editline]
so what do you guys do when you have to poop in a public stall? normally you carry your pistol in your waistband but when you're on the pot and your pants are around your ankles anyone can just look right under the door and see your babykiller sitting in a pair of mostly empty pants
do you just hold the pistol while you poop? there's not usually a shelf or anything to sit it on
this conundrum has had me actively avoiding using public bathrooms for the past several years

Set it on the toilet paper dispenser. It's what I did with my walkie, knife, and phone at walmart.
Also, what made you choose the Glock 22. i'm not quite sure what to choose for my OC when I end up moving.

toilet paper dispensers really aren't big enough for a big fat duty pistol like a glock 22, and I'm not going to let my glock fall from 3 feet off the ground onto hard tile
I got a good deal on it through a private sale. it's a first gen and was owned by a cop from 1991 until early 2004 when I bought it through my dad for $700 including 4 15 round LEO-marked mags, which at the time were illegal for civilian ownership
So you committed a crime?
So you committed a crime?
not exactly. my dad was a reserve cop at the time too and he was technically the owner of the pistol until I turned 18
So you committed a crime?
Wouldn't be the first time someone has done that.

My dad has a LEO marked AR15 mag, bought it off a soldier who had just come back from Afghanistan, who I suspect got it off a US soldier there

He got it off some Turkish soldiers actually.
