Avoid Auto Ord., Nat'l Ord., and Universal.
Commercial ones that are good are Plainfield and Iver Johnson - usually run in the $350-$450 range
USGI - $600 and up

[QUOTE=Kalamadea;38804813]You and I need to have a range day sometime. I mean we're only 45 minutes from each other.
What range did you guys go to?[/QUOTE]
We used Precision, which is where we typically go anyway. One of the guys that works with my best friend happens to work at Precision part-time too. He supplied us with the Thompson and some full mags. I'm hoping to get my other friend's dad to come to the range with us one day. He has an NFA M16 and Mac10 that I'm dying to shoot. He's already said he'll bring them up there for us, we just have to figure a date. I'll shoot you a message if I know in advance the next time we are going to the range.
[QUOTE=Skullivan21;38805194]Huh... 8000 dollars seems a little high, but that post war price isn't too bad.
[editline]12th December 2012[/editline]
I've heard that the Auto Ordnance ones aren't as good as the War time ones... are they worth their price?
[editline]12th December 2012[/editline]
Or are those the ones to avoid? Or is Universal the ones to ignore.... I that chart on M1 Manufacturers again!
[editline]12th December 2012[/editline]
That was more of a list of them... I ask cause I'm too lazy to find it.[/QUOTE]
rofl i was kidding. you can find a war model in good condition for like $1000
Question: If I were to buy a Plainfield M1 Carbine Paratrooper in a folding stock, would I be able to drop the gun into a regular M1 Carbine stock?
[QUOTE=Skullivan21;38804966]What are you M1 Carbine owners paying for those rifles?[/QUOTE]
Got mine and a few hundred rounds in a trade for a $300 bolt action .308

Yes. The actions are the same.
Well, my local gun shop never has em, and I never see them around... wish they weren't like 600 bucks when I look online...

I'd avoid buying them online, always helps to examine guns like that in person to make sure everything works since quite a few of them were issued and are like 70 years old.
well leaving tomorrow to go to a cabin with some friends out in the middle of nowhere for the weekend
ive seen enough movies to know what happens to college kids who rent a cabin out in the woods so before i leave im gonna pick up some more .30 cal and 7.62x39
[editline]12th December 2012[/editline]
i predict the serial killer will attack on friday
unless you can get them through a site that does hand picking for you like aimsurplus does, it's never worth buying used or milsurp online

look for some gun ranges. When I got dragged to a cabin earlier this year, I just brought my mosin and spent the entire weekend at the range.

Unless you're getting such a bargain where it doesn't matter if it turns out to be crap

I was thinking more Iver Johnson, Plainfield repros... as opposed to milsurp.
[editline]12th December 2012[/editline]
But I won't bother unless someone comes along with one for more like 400 or that area, cause there are far better things imho for 600 bucks.

If Mitt were in office, something like this would actually be considered.

[QUOTE=Black Milano;38810196]Is buying a 1911 in 22lr a sin?[/QUOTE]
yes, but buying one in .38 super isn't
a 1911 in .357 isn't blasphemy, but a .357 in an autoloader is

Who told you that? CMP isn't expecting to get any more carbines ever again. The ones from S. Korea weren't allowed back in the country

I had heard they allow so many per year. But I've also heard that the Korean carbines aren't coming back. Only the Garands. Those high capacity clips are dangerous!

I enjoyed my GSG 1911.
[editline]12th December 2012[/editline]
I enjoyed my Remington 1911, too. Just too expensive to feed. I want to buy another and convert it to a 9mm :P
I heard you Americans were getting all of the leased weapons back from Sth. Korea
I honestly expect what we get back will be beat to shit, stocks will be rotted out, etc. They'll need a serious refurbish to be usable again. Just my expectations, though.
