It has a steel penetrator in the core
It has a mild (i.e. soft) steel core because it's cheaper than lead

Therefore, it isn't an AP round.
Hey guys, quick question, I'm planning on getting a nugget, and I was wondering if I would be able to re-chamber it into cheaper-ish round, or is it large undertaking?

Yep

You realise 7.62x54mmR IS the cheapest round after the rimfire calibres? Even then, it's a massive and difficult undertaking

there's no such thing as a cheaper round than 7.62x54mmR
[editline]13th December 2012[/editline]
other than .22 LR but that would be such a massive change it's not even worth the ammo savings
Canadia being stupid again
Whoa whoa whoa, hold on. By unrestricted does that mean can walk into a store with out a license, pick one up, and own it with out a license? Or am I just plain retarded and need to stop convincing myself to move to Canadia.

You need a licence to own any firearm in Canada

by unrestricted it means it's legal to own

Gotcha. I need to stop assuming stupid things.

7.62x54 is already pretty cheap :l
I work in sporting goods at Walmart, so I sell quite a few guns a week.
It's so depressing at how gun illiterate some folks are. I mean, I'm not the most weapon-savvy person in the world but good lord some people!
Someone tried to claim that a bolt action didn't needed to be cycled after ever shot and was more accurate than semi-autos so a bolt .22 is their best bet. Kill me.

Alrighty, just was misinterpreting ''unrestricted''

Non-restricted means you need a license, but there's no need to register the gun, and you can take it hunting, and shoot it places other than an "approved" range. The only guns you don't need a license for are antiques, and even then you need a license to buy the ammo.

Well, generally bolt actions are slightly more accurate then semi-autos. Not that it's huge, just the way gases are expelled and shit.
So you guys can't take restricted firearm hunting?

I think he mean the semis and the bolt actions both fired on round per trigger pull, but the bolts were more accurate so he should get one
Oh, also, I was planning on getting some 7.62x54R for Christmas. Is it worth it to take the brass casing rounds over steel or is does the cheap price of the nugget justify tearing it up with steel cased rounds?
I got mine for $90, but we spent probably $50 refinishing it and it'd be a shame to have to do it all again.

Oh well if that's the case. Then wow :v

Oh, I know. I was more concerned with the bit about no need to cycle the round. I don't even understand how anyone who has ever seen a bolt action before can believe that you can just pull the trigger.

Steel case ammo won't "tear up" your gun. No point getting brass ammo unless you reload or your gun's fickly

We can't even shoot restricted firearms on our own land, we HAVE to shoot them at an approved range. It's bullshit. Of course, if they were to allow us to take restricteds hunting, that'd mean handgun hunting, and God forbid you allow people to walk around with handguns! All the downtown yuppies would collectively have a heart attack at the mere thought.

Same in Australia. We might own a handgun, but if we take it and shoot it outside of a range, the world will end! Same if you're one of the few club shooter allowed a semi-shotgun. Can only use it at the club

Steel cases aren't going to tear up a nugget, and you can't justify reloading 7.62x54r, it's infinitely cheaper to just buy new spam can. 7.62x54r is probably the cheapest rifle round you can possibly get. You can't really beat 60-80$ for 440 rounds, or 150-190$ for 880 rounds.
Did your case come with a free sig?
Sadly, no. Just a dirty rag, and a plastic bag with some hoppe's in it.
Ooh lets post about interesting gun stories, like how you came upon owning a certain gun.
My dad owned a moving business in the 90's and got paid in guns a lot. He mostly got break barrel single-shot shotguns, so nothing too interesting. Another time he was fixing a buddies car that the guy just bought, and when looking under the seat he found a loaded RG .22 snub nose revolver. The guy didn't like guns and just gave it to my dad. On another note I might inherit 2 (thats right, two!) M1898 Krag rifles, some Remington 30-06 hunting rifle, a Remington 12 Gauge pump action shotgun, and another oddball bolt-action .410 gauge shotgun from my grandmother in a couple months. All rifles were bought by my grandfather in the 50's (not new either) so they have some interesting history to them for sure. Another neighbor down the street has a 1913 dated Colt 1911 that he might sell to me. It saw use during WW1 overseas, then in WW2, then it was carried by the original owner in a glove compartment in a pickup truck, then sold to my neighbor. Post your gun stories!
...you can't justify reloading 7.62x54r
match-grade ammunition, really hot or really heavy loads, subsonics, etc.
match-grade ammunition, really hot or really heavy loads, subsonics, etc.
And in Australia, where 7.62x54mmR ammo is 60c a round, while I can reload it for less

5.45x39 is actually the cheapest. ~$150 for 1080 last I checked

Damn, that is almost as cheap as high grade .22lr ammo
