The way I see it, by yourself? You don't need one. Have anyone else living with you? Yeah get one.

Leave the house for hours or even days at a time? They're sitting there unattended, one smashed window away from being nicked.

"guns kill more people than cars do"
LOL
Oh, alright fuck this.
I'm getting my qualification in Petroleum Engineering and I'm fucking moving to Texas and buying a stetson and some spurs and I'm never ever looking back towards the nanny-state, airgun-license requiring shithole called Scotland I currently inhabit.
FUCK MY GOVERNMENT.
Sadly, I'm gonna move to the U.K. for a while. That is quite a bit into the future though.
Which part of texas may I ask?

I wish you luck in getting citizenship so you can start buying guns!

maybe if you have a buttload of guns but it would cost me just as much to buy a safe that I'd actually trust with my guns as it would to replace most of them

Cheers man, can't wait to start my arsenal.

So there are three choices for my troop's deployment weapon.
1: M4, much like the one we are issued, lacking burst capability of course.
2: SPR, one piece upper/rail system, free float barrel, precision irons
3: Same as 2, but chambered in 7.62
There is going to be a custom engraving on all three. We are waiting for the engraving examples to come back before drafting up order forms. The weapons are being commissioned from S&W. This is all coordinated by one of our pilots who is a President's 100 tab holder. I am psyched, this is some awesome stuff. As soon as I get my hands on pictures, I will post them.
Personally I'd take the SPR.
I'd take 3
Wait, what? You can get custom engravings on your rifles in the military?
That's awesome as hell, but man, all the other countries are going to think we're weird.
I'd go with #3 personally.

I'm guessing it's a commemoration piece for members of the unit? Because it's up to battalion commanders and probably even much higher to decide what hardware a unit gets deployed with. Not the unit themselves. Otherwise everybody would be outfitted with FN SCARs and night vision-equipped ACOGs.

number 3. don't go with piddly .556 rounds when you can have better
number 3. don't go with piddly .556 rounds when you can have better
Mmm yes I love it when my ammunition is bigger than .556 because who needs shoulders and controllability?
number 3. don't go with piddly .556 rounds when you can have better
Piddly is not how I, or anyone else that has experience in actually firing a gun, would describe it.
Considerably deadly is more along the lines of describing it, as well as any other calibre.
I confess, I just have an irrational dislike of 5.56, probably because I'm a diehard M14 fan. 5.56 isn't bad and I take back piddly, I just don't think it has enough punch.

1. 5.56 is the caliber
2. The M14 is chambered in 7.62x51
.556cal anti-everything rifle

The admin for a Sandy Hook memorial page is mad, and raging at the entire populous of "gun nuts" and calling people "despicable" and "distorted" and I can't decide whether to rebuttal or be sarcastic i.e. "You are so right! Guns kill people!"

Does the bayonet fit snugly? My range buddy has two and they both wobble around. He says it's because he doesn't have some nut or other, but it doesn't look like you have one either.
Blegh, Sobotnik is a disgusting individual. I have never seen anyone so quick to jump to conclusions that a) benefit their stance and b) aren't in any way connected to or implied in what they're talking about.
