Majority of Mosins that I've seen in stores had dried cosmoline in the receiver and all over the bolt still.

saw a '42 tula at a gun store up in the mountains, and the thing was more cosmoline than mosin. The cosmoline had soaked into the bolt and changed it's color completely, and some retard fired it without cleaning the cosmoline out of the barrel. So the barrel had this thick coating of rust and burnt cosmoline. The stock was OK, but I bet if I got it anywhere near a heat source it would start leaking cosmoline.
