What are good optic brands for a rimfire gun? Hopefully getting a ruger 10/22 Soon, I was gonna get a 10/22 "Tactical" Low Profile mount by utg (so i could use ironsights too) and put a scope on it. I was looking at a nikon prostaff 3-9x40 rimfire, But it seems pricey. I'm new to firearms myself, what brands and or scopes would you choose? Thank you!
Leapers makes some good stuff. I would slap a 4x32 (4x magnification, 32mm lens) airgun scope on there
how can i get my hands on a parkerized grey or straight steel heatshield for an 870
how can i get my hands on a parkerized grey or straight steel heatshield for an 870
Google search for one, there are several companies that make heat shields. You won't have any problems finding a straight steel one. ATI has some stainless ones. Parkerized grey may be a little more difficult. There really are a lot of choices out there.
I think you have to be a member first in order to buy however. Do you already have a club you can join that's CMP affiliated and are you approved by CMP as disciplined enough? If not, legally they can't sell you their rifles. On the plus side You can have the rifle shipped straight to your door instead of an FFL since they double as an FFL, and if you're having trouble finding a club they do have a nifty search tool. I joined the club that is ran by [sp]/k/[/sp].
I'm CMP eligible already. I just need to save money and find time for the trip to Camp Perry
So... I can't shoot my rifle anywhere in North Dakota pretty much. Shooting in WMA will get me in trouble unless I'm hunting. Bismarck-Mandan Pistol and Rifle club operates the only fully 'maintained' rifle ranges, but doesn't allow 8mm Mauser. The only other range is something which is pretty much in a marshland... Fuck. Edit: Stand corrected. An unlisted range in a camping area! My day has been saved.
Never thought there would be trouble finding a place to shoot in our great northwest. Besides Washington that is; fucking tree-huggers.

8mm mauser is the definition of baby killer assault rifle round, duh
Please elaborate on this. What is their reasoning behind this ban?
I'm gonna guess because it's a massive and powerful round, and that the range only allows smaller calibers like .45 or .223. If they only disallow 8mm Mauser then I'm at a loss because that is the most oddly-specific ban I can think of.
If its only 8mm then that's really right up there with banning some goof caliber like .30-03 or something [editline]4th October 2012[/editline] maybe its just the same reason a lot of places ban Soviet surplus - most of it is either steel jacketed and damages traps or steel cased and can't be reloaded easily
In the month I was banned, My grandpa passed away. He left to me a Boito .410 single shot shogun, about 40 years old. I am never going to sell it of course, but I'd like to know more about them, I can't find shit about it.

Worth around $40-$80 in this market. Real reliable though, and in the off chance it does break it's pretty easy to get other guns to cannibalize for parts

they run .45 LC like a champ too

Honestly, a .223 is going to do more damage to their backstop than an 8mm Mauser would.
.30-30 or .308? .308 is like 50% more powerful than .30-30 and 40% more powerful than .223
.30-30 or .308? .308 is like 50% more powerful than .30-30 and 40% more powerful than .223
Definitely .308. I was just going off what I thought I remembered were the correct speeds and such for the 8mm. Now that I went back and looked, it's probably closer to the .30-06, but either way, it's silly to ban such a round from a rifle range, indoor or outdoor. Local indoor 25-yd range here let's you shoot anything up to, but not including, .50BMG. The only thing that is banned is steel core .223/5.56, because it's absolute murder on the backstop.
Just got back from Afghanistan and I had a new ghetto blaster waiting for me in a box at home!
You have no idea how jelly I am
is it just me, or does it look a bit disproportionate?
first photo looks sorta squashed but really it's just a ludicrously fat rifle

Hey, do you guys have any opinions on the CZ-70? I've got a guy on Armslist offering to sell me one for $200.
IMHO CZs are p. much always good to go. $200 is a little more than CZ-70s usually go for though. Typically I see those for around $150-170

What's so "poor" about it? [editline]4th October 2012[/editline] "I have a really nice CZ-70 in 7.65x25 (32ACP) that I'll sell for $200.00. i think he means if you plan on killing someone, you might need to shoot them more than once.
Can you be a little more detailed than that?
a heavy winter coat can stop .32ACP I've seen it happen
i guess a CZ-70 is a summer gun then
