They've shot pistols and stuff in their vacuum chambers before, it works. The bullet would travel forever until it hit something or space dust eventually slows it down. The thing is, if an astronaut fired it free-floating he'd be travelling backward for quite a while.
Anyway, I'm not 100% sure, but a flintlock should fire because gunpowder has its own oxidant.

Hmmm, well if recoil's an issue, why not try it with recoilless rifles? I'd love to see the results of firing a M2 Carl-Gustav in space.
