For Christmas I got a CVA Elite Stalker in .35 Whelen and a box of bullets.
Here is a generic pic, I'll get one of mine once I get a scope on it:

I'm going to top it with a Leupold FX-II 4x33, just have to get it ordered.
Are the kel-tec KSG shotguns reliable at all?
Are the kel-tec KSG shotguns reliable at all?
As long as you don't short stroke it, it's a good running shotgun.
Today I went to two gun shops. I found a Finnish Mosin-Nagant carbine, and a Tapco'd SKS. No Russian Mosins. No standard SKSes. On the other hand, I did find an AR-10, a GSG StG-44, multiple Saigas, WASRs, and Arsenals, even an M1A, but not a single normal, Russkie Mosin or SKS, or even a Chinese SKS.
Feels like I'm steppin' into the Twilight Zone.
If I was you I'd get the Finnish Mosin. IMHO they're alot nicer than the standard Russian 91/30s.
Better stocks, better bedding, better barrels, overall nicer quality.

I inspected it. Matching serials, solid rifling, great condition on the metal, smooth action, not a hint of cosmoline- and also just shy of $500. For that price I feel like I could start with a better platform. Are they really worth that much?

I was lucky enough to pick up a Fin M27 for 80$, was made in 1932, all matching serials hold for the floorplate. I personally prefer it to my M91/30 that I have. It's slightly shorter and doesn't weigh as much, so it's easier to handle and shoot. Not only that, but it's iron sights don't suck, and it's fucking beautiful. The Fin mosins have the prettiest stocks I've ever seen on a gun. If you really like Mosin Nagant rifles, then yes, it's worth 300-500$, but I wouldn't pay more than that for a mosin unless it was a sniper.
How are the GSG MP5s? I'm in the market for a .22 and I want something a bit more extravagant than a Marlin Model 60 or a Ruger 10/22.

Not at that price, they go for 350 on average. in that condition it's probably worth closer to 400

I've got one, bought it used, ran fine for roughly first 300 rounds, then it started giving me some weird-worn firing pin issues, threw a new firing pin in and it runs just as well as it always has. Great gun, get it new if you can.
There are much better .22's out there, but it's pretty cool regardless.

Don't bother, a 10/22 is a much better choice. If you just want tacticool then get an aftermarket stock. Maybe pick up a 10/22 charger, get the sbr paperwork done, and throw a nice full stock on it.

Never liked the looks of a 10/22. If I ever got a 22 it would probably be the Umarex .22lr MP5

You could always get the redjacketfirearms custom stock.
Umarex is airsoft brand that dabbles in rimfire, don't bother with it.

I never heard bad things about it
You've probably never heard good things about it either.

Also, these guys seem to like it.
Gunshop worker here. Heard a lot of negative feedback about it.
umarex's airsoft shit is usually pretty average too, they just don't bother with quality
That's a shame
I suck at photography, also 56k warning.

Umarex actually doesn't make any of their shit, they just hold licensing for it and get other companies to make them.

What manufacturer is it?
I think I want a M1 Garand for my truck down the road.
What manufacturer is it?
Springfield

Umarex is a really confusing company to track all the shit that gets made. They own RWS who makes some of the best airguns on the market, all at the same time owning the license to other brands, and selling cheap chinese copies of those airguns.

too big for a truck gun imo, get a zastava m92 or something
M1 carbine makes an exceptional truck gun imo
I wouldn't mind an M1A3 Carbine with an underfolder stock as a truck gun but a full size would be pretty aggravating
My M44 would be my truck gun, but I have a VW, soo
