I think they were thinking that roller-delayed blowback worked exceptionally well on the MG42, so why shouldn't it work on a battle rifle?
the MG42 was roller-locked, not roller delayed. they're not the same at all
roller-locked and roller-delayed are literally the same thing
roller-locked and roller-delayed are literally the same thing
no they're not
delayed. that explains even more good god what was H&K thinking?
as if that isn't a good successful design...?
roller-locked and roller-delayed are literally the same thing
No their not. Roller locked has the action locked until the barrel and bolt move recoil a certain distance. Roller delayed is a system they enables blowback action in larger cartridges without a massive heavy bolt or enormous spring Anyway, Roller delayed blowback is really good if you ask me, I'm surprised no one is designing new guns with it

[editline]29th December 2012[/editline] I'm also not sure what you're saying with that patent
I don't even see how that could happen...
It yanks the casings out so hard is smacks them into the back edge of the ejection port when cycling.
I don't even see how that could happen... [editline]29th December 2012[/editline] I'm also not sure what you're saying with that patent
.308 is too violent for blowback no matter what the delay is. roller delayed .308 rifles destroy all the cases that they spit out that's the patent for the roller lock, and it shows the difference between it and a roller delay
Well that pretty much fucks over any chance at reloading those, I guess :v:
Looking it up, those dents are caused by the brass flinging around and hitting the rifle during ejection. Not the fault of the RD blowback [editline]29th December 2012[/editline]
Well that pretty much fucks over any chance at reloading those, I guess :v:
Apparently people still reloaded them though
Why the hell would you reload dented brass? Aren't you risking some sort of a breach?
Ignoring the crappy music You can see the brass strike the gun during ejection here, explaining the damage
Well when you think about it, the G3 was designed for the military, and the military has a total of zero concern for spent brass. They're not reloading it, why would it matter to them that the brass is being chewed up on ejection?
Wow, I never realized the speed at which brass is ejected is so incredible.
that's not what causes the damage, there's a cutout in the chamber that causes it. early prototypes without the cutout, when the gun ejected, it would rip the case heads off the gun the blowback is too violent
Wow, I never realized the speed at which brass is ejected is so incredible.
I never realized either until my friend had a go with my bumpfire-stock AK while I was standing next to him. Being peppered in the face with hot brass is NOT fun.

This damage isn't caused by that [editline]29th December 2012[/editline]
My G3 has sparked a great conversation. I like this. It is beating the shit out of the brass, that's for sure. I'm just concerned if it can be reloaded with that ding in the side- some are quite nasty.

So does anyone on here actually have any experience doing a build that requires welding/remilling a receiver and doing all sorts of machine work? You guys were saying that building a Suomi was one of the easier projects out there (as well as the guys on the Weapons Guild forum), but I take one look at all of those tutorials and get slightly overwhelmed by the lack of a coherent step-by-step guide of any sort.

Is there anything like a step-by-step guide out there? The Suomi is the closest bet I have to an affordable build that won't cost me an arm and a leg, and I don't have the funds to run out and drop a load of cash on an AR or an AK.
you should probably just design your own gun if you want cheap

If you're not experienced with welding on thin metal it's really easy to burn though and in doing so you just eat away at the metal and have to fill the holes with more weld. A little bit of weld is alright but a lot isn't. The hard part is rewelding the receiver with the right length and without warping it. The receivers themselves should be properly treated already, but the welds will shrink as they cool.
but seriously wheres my fucking nagant revolver
I've decided I want to get a bullpup in the $2k range. What would you guys choose?
