I think theres a civilian TAR-21 thats supposed to be coming to the US next year, but if you look hard enough (after all this panic buying calms down) you might be able to find a norinco AK bullpup. If I was to get one I'd like to get the a1 with the carry handle/scope, but from what I've seen only MSAR made those and they have a bad reputation.
I found a site specializing in A3's and have several different types of them. No idea what the pricing is.

Just had my first experience cleaning out cosmoline. Ugh, what a pain. And it wasn't even soaked in. Just bakelite coated in the stuff...

There was some cosmoline on my AK when I bought it. Nothing serious, just a bit of coating on the handguard.
"Cleaning" consisted of rapid-firing that shit and enjoying the smoke after 100 rounds.

Too cold to shoot today. It's 11am and 27 degrees. I ran them under hot water, and rubbed them off with shop towels and q-tips.

Speaking of shooting in the cold, is it bad for the gun? I'm not too concerned about my Nugget since it's probably been through many winters, but my grandpa was concerned about his Mini-30.

Only if it's in extreme cold, where the oil or grease in the gun begins to gel. We're talking -30 degree temps here, though... Chosin Reservoir temps
Anything AK is designed to fire in the cold, hence "corrosive" ammo (lives up to it's name, sheesh).

I just took some small slivers of wood and put them where the hanguard inserts into the receiver until it stopped wiggling.
I one day wish to hug my weapons to prevent hypothermia.

I'd get some veneer, glue it to the handguard and then cut away the excess.
Unless it's the metal that needs more material, then I'd just silver solder some brass to it.
Bit more permanent fix.

Too slippery on the roads to go out shooting for me. Slid my car twice thanks to the lack of traction available today, I'm going to stay inside where it's warm.
On other news, I did pick up another nugget since I last posted here. A 1927 Tula Ex-Dragoon 91/30 still coated in cosmoline.
