Also, HELP! I need a Mosin Nagant M1891/30 Trigger pin. I somehow lost mine while I had it out of the stock. Does anyone have one or know where I can get one?
Thanks.

THEY RAISED THE PRICE BY 100$ SINCE LAST WEEK
FUUUUUUUUUCK.
Man. That's stupid.
Hey guys, throughout this whole thing, Red Jacket hasn't raised their prices. Just felt I needed to point that out. :v:
Someone gave me this for Christmas, this is the fuckin worst cleaning tool ever made.
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/692535/real-avid-zipwire-pistol-cleaning-kit-22-caliber-to-45-caliber
Motherfucker got stuck in the throat of my AR and I had to snap the wire off and push the thing out the breech with a proper cleaning rod after about 20 minutes of trying to dislodge it. Next time I'll go with my gut and get rid of shit like that, least with a rod or a boresnake you can pull it back out from the opposite end if it gets snug.
Speaking of cleaning tools, I got myself a boresnake the other day. Seems like it'll simplify the cleaning process.

Can't help but notice it says it's for pistols, so why were you using it in a rifle?

Had the rifle version, has a longer wire. Same unforgivably stupid design.

To be honest I never know what cleaning gear to use. I was told bore snakes and any rod softer than steel can pick up fouling and scratch the barrel. Also brass rods and brushes can foul up the barrel when used with copper solvent. But if you use a steel rod you have to use a bore/muzzle guide or you could ruin the throat or chamber. And if the other choices are so bad why do so many people use them? I know people that swear by bore snakes, and others that hate them. Then there are the people that only use one-piece rods. And when should you use brushes instead of patches? And then what cleaner? My grandpa uses solvent on the bore, and scrubs the rest with a toothbrush. He always warns me never to over-lube and he never uses solvent on anything but the bore. Hickok45 just sprays ballistol everywhere and it seems to work for him. Some people even use just water! And then you're supposed to use oil on rotating parts and grease on sliding ones. Ballistol is supposed to lubricate, but is it oil or grease? And then some guns don't like lube at all, like my lever gun. It gets really hard to cycle when I lube it and seems to get easier after it gets all fouled up. But then how am I supposed to stop it from rusting if that is what gun oil does? And then there is special stuff for certain guns, like I'm supposed to use lubriplate on my M1 garand. All the gun guys I know have so many solvents and lubricants, how do they know which one to use? What if I just want one bore cleaner, one chamber/action cleaner, one oil, and one grease?
I am confus
I just run a boresnake through 3 times covered in some sort of foaming shit I found at walmart, then run rem oil patches through with a non-steel cleaning rod until they come out clean. If I've been firing corrosive I'll run a 1/10 ammonia-9/10 water patch down the barrel, wait 30 seconds, then dry patch it and oil it again.
Ima get some Ballistol and try it to see how it does. It should work pretty good on my guns that like lots of lube like my AK. I'll try it in my lever gun and the M1 Garand too sometime.

To tell you the truth I am also just as confus. I was never taught really how to clean a gun, and so I sorta just guessed. I only got a bore snake because I knew I shouldn't be using the cleaning rod that is on the Mosin Nagant, but that's all I had. I won't lie the first time I bought cleaning supplies I mistook Hoppes #9 lubricant for the solvent and cleaned my gun only with lube once (it sort of worked).
What the fuck?

How do you fuck that one up?

I usually get a jag on a one piece rod, cotton patch, Hoppes No.9 for a first pass to remove the bulk of the grime, then No.9 solvent on a cotton patch to get rid of the rest, then a couple more passes with the No.9 lube to wipe the bore down. Takes about 5 minutes to do, even with a muzzleloader and I don't use solvent with those, just lukewarm water.
Patches don't fall off jags and they'll make for a nice tight fit in the bore, plus they don't spray everywhere like brushes. You can even double up on the patches and tap em down with a mallet if you've got stubborn spots.

Because I fucked up and used lube to clean my nugget the first time when I finally got some real solvent down there I had to run literally 68 patches down there before they came out remotely clean. Then they started coming out greenish blue. Took me a good hour no joke.

The M2 "Ma Deuce" 40
I feel really stupid for only recently finding out that grain weight refers to the weight of the projectile and not the amount of powder in the casing. Well, the more you know.
In fact, yesterday some kid came in to buy some 22lr where I work, and didn't have a clue about anything. First, he said he'd only buy Remington because he'd only run "one brand of ammo through my gun". Then, he asked if we had 60 grain cartridges. I can't fathom why other than close-mid range varmint hunting, but he implied for plinking.
Of course, he lost all credibility when deciding to go for 225 rounds of Remington lead, which costs over half the price of the 555 copper plated Winchester that we sell. Hope he has a cleaning kit!
[editline]31st December 2012[/editline]
Oh also some awesome regular we get at the store offered to sell me a Lee-Enfield for $250. He implied that it's a No. 4 but I'm not sure on the specifics. Do it Y/N?

Once fired a gun will never really come clean without some serious scrubbing, so long as the patches aren't coming out black all over, just some lines where the patch engaged the rifling then it's clean.

Not as much as Gunsmoke Guns. For absolutely worthless guns I might add...
I'd be embarrassed to so much as show someone a Gonne like the one they made, much less sell it for $1,000.
Don't even get me started on that 'Punt gun'.
Just gonna step in and ask.
Anyone by chance ever get to hold or fire or just see a 1947 model AK-47 in person? (The Earliest one)?
I believe they're a lot rarer than I'm thinking right now, though.

just about everyone calls an AKM an AK-47.

You could try visiting one of the shoots which usually have automatics to rent. Places like Big Sandy Shoot in Arizona might have it, but like you said... It's up there with the Stoner 63 in terms of rarity.

So they were prepared? :v:
