And that Sun article is exactly what I mean when I say people are gun-uneducated, because man, it shows.
No opinions on this?
I can comment on the Scope. The reticles are very specific, and being that it is a variable, the distances will change for each zoom setting. The settings that Leupold give is only for the max power setting of 9. You are also correct in that the ranges will be different if you zero at 100. They won't just go 200, 300, 400. If you want an idea of how ballistic reticles work, check out Nikon's Spot-On software: http://www.nikonhunting.com/SpotOnRegistration/. This is only for Nikon's BDC, but the basic premise is the same for all long range reticles. Personally, if it is going to be for hunting, I recommend two things. First and foremost, GO WITH A FIXED POWER. Despite what people think, you don't need a zoom function on a scope. A fixed 4x scope is good all the way to 400 yards, a 6x is good out to 600 yards easily, and both are excellent for close range shooting. I run a Leupold FX-3 6x42 with Heavy Duplex on my .270 WSM. I'm under 1 MOA at 100 yards all day long with this gun, and couldn't be happier with the Scope. Now, as far as a reticle is concerned, if you are looking to go from 100-500 yards, go with a regular duplex. The duplex reticle is actually a long range reticle, and can be used easily to range targets. The first thing I usually tell people when they ask about reticles is to go out and learn how to use the duplex for distancing. Nine times out of ten, people find it is sufficient for them once they have learned how to use it. If you are going out to 800-1000 yards, a Mil-Dot would probably be easier though. Also, it's the UK, so why is anyone surprised? No offense to our neighbors across the pond, but your general populous is completely ignorant when it comes to firearms.
Unless your M1A somehow shoots like shit, why don't you just keep it?
It shot like a dream, but the only out door range that has targets at over 25 yards closed down, and .308 is a bit expensive to plink with at 25 yard targets. Plus, I wanted a handgun, and easiest way to get one if you're under 21 is through a gunshow.

So, I'm thinking my baby killer needs one of these: http://swfa.com/Leupold-25-8x36-Mark-4-MRT-30mm-Riflescope-P45044.aspx Problem is deciding what to do with my irons. Front is fixed, and my rear is an LMT fixed. Should I get a flip-up gas block, or flat-top gas block? Going to need a new rear too. Also, I'm not fond of the Magpul flip-ups at all. Opinions? EDIT: Dammit, I'm running some numbers, and it looks like I'm going to be spending another ass load of money. Scope - $1100 Mount - $100-200 Front Sight - $200~ Rear Sight - $100~ Bipod - $75-100 They don't need to ban guns because they kill people, they need to ban them because they run their owners dry on money!
I'd wait a few months before you pick any of that up, because it's probably inflated as hell right now, wait for the prices to go down before you spend half your lifes savings.
I'd wait a few months before you pick any of that up, because it's probably inflated as hell right now, wait for the prices to go down before you spend half your lifes savings.
None of it's inflated, and it's all in stock right now. Ironically, sights and mounts will remain largely untouched by any ban. Either way, the scope is the main piece I will have to wait on. I'm thinking it may come during tax return season. The rest of the stuff I will need before hand anyway.

Ban politics! :v: [editline]2nd January 2013[/editline] To all you americans complaining about super-inflated prices: An AR-15 costs 6000$ in Norway. Kimber 1911? 4000$ A new console game? 100$ Gasoline? Almost 3$....PER LITER (which is in americanese = roughly 14$ per gallon)

They only $8700 though! An FN FAL is about $6000. SKS or SKK is about $1200 Nuggets are about $350 Surplus nugget ammo is about 50-60c a pop and petrol is $1.50 a litre or $6 a gallon [editline]3rd January 2013[/editline] I have to say, this is impressive:
I still haven't mentioned how we have no next to no regulations on silencers, but every firearm bought must be applied for, and that costs about 90$ PER gun :v:
That's because the places that do have restrictions on suppressors have genuinely ignorant Governments. They are considered NFA items in America, and I think that is one of the silliest things to be considered NFA. Suppressors are not going to conceal the sound of anything more than a .22LR. The purpose of a suppressor is to bring noise levels down enough to not damage unprotected hearing. This still means it is going to be loud as hell, your ears will just not ring. I've shot many types of firearms with suppressors, and outside of a .22LR, you can hear them all coming from a long way off. Even a .22LR though, you can still hear the shot within 200 yards, if not more. BTW, calling a suppressor a silencer is just as bad as calling a magazine a clip.
i thought semi autos were banned in the land down under?
They're not banned, just heavily restricted. Normal shooters can't get them. Farmers can get semi-shotguns and semi-.22s Clay shooters with a physical disability signed off by a doctor can get semi-shotguns Professional pest cullers (the guys who fly around in helicopters) can have semi-centrefire rifles If you live in the Northern Territory and have a large farm (like more than 100k acres) you can also get semi-centrefires

I don't really know if poaching is a relevant issue in the US anymore, but I think suppressors should be easier to get if they want to keep them restricted.

In the 30s the only usable suppressors had consumable baffles. The only lasted a few dozen rounds before failing so they weren't very popular with the public and went unnoticed until the OSS picked them up. Bit odd they got included in the NFA
Professional pest cullers (the guys who fly around in helicopters) can have semi-centrefire rifles
that seems fun, shame its almost the only way to get them
that seems fun, shame its almost the only way to get them
Yep. Understandably, it's very hard to get into the business

I personally would like to get some sort of suppressor for my mosin M44, so I can take it to an indoor range without pissing people off.

I wish I could record the sound from our indoor rifle range. It's only two 25-yard lanes, both lanes together are 8 feet wide, with 9 feet ceilings. The only opening is at the end by the backstop. It's a three foot wide opening on the left from the ceiling to the floor, and ALL the noise funnels out of that opening into the pistol range. People hate when we go up there with a ported .300 win mag.

and now all the emails stopped i need my guns email me back assholes [editline]2nd January 2013[/editline] i need to get off armslist
