Got my first handgun today, Nagant Revolver made in 1943 at the Tula factory (almost a sister to my Mosin Nagant made in 1943 Izhevsk).
Here's some quick and dirty cell phone pics I had to take cuz it's too rainy outside to take nice outdoor sunny pictures.

I finally have my nugget revolver! Finally.
Fulton Armory offers a paratrooper stock for M1 Carbines. Ignore the odd name for the page.

What a beaut, Russian handguns always look good to me.
Gun is way too cool just because of the sealed chamber, rounds, and ability to be suppressed.
man every time I see a mini-thirty I'm so tempted to buy it
i still like how the reloading process was so outdated even by the time they adopted it
If any dealer in Canada ever got a Nagant Revolver in for under $250 I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but none have had them for a year and a half.

What is this blasphemy? Slavshit that's cheaper in the U.S. than in Canada?
yo who has a time machine i want to go buy something not overpriced by some asshole.

For one it's actually available in the US, so it never comes here. The last dealer to have them sold them with holster, lanyard, and rod for $199. Mosins, because they can go to the US in larger quantities, are also cheaper there, they're usually $150 here, versus $89 in the US. But yeah, there are no Nagant Revolvers around in Canada, no dealer keeps stock on them, and not a lot of people have them, and those who do will not sell them for less than $250.
The ammo is also expensive, $32/50, with very little in terms of bulk and basically no bulk discount or surplus, and reloading it would be interesting/a bitch.

To give you an idea on ammo prices for that, here's the cheapest ammo for it:
https://www.canadaammo.com/product/detail/429/50-round-box-of-prvi-7-62mm-nagant-98gr-jfp/
Here's 100 unprimed brass:

And here's 100 bullets:
http://www.tradeexcanada.com/content/762-nagant-revolver-bullets-bulk-pack
And here's just about the only die set I can find for reloading:
http://www.tradeexcanada.com/content/lee-die-set-762-nagant-revolver
The bullets aren't so bad, thankfully, but I'd rather not pay shipping from Quebec to get them if I get the gun, and I'm not sure if anywhere locally has either the ammo or the bullets.
I drove two hours this afternoon to get to a firing range, finally found it in the middle of nowhere, then realized I needed to bring a four foot target stand. :downs:

Mosin-Nagants and Nagant revolvers are cheaper in the U.S. while SVT-40s are cheaper in Canada.

Just got back from shooting with my dad and some of his work colleges using some of my various uncle's guns. I never realized how many guns they had before :v:
We shot:
Two AR-15's, my dad and uncle's, the latter had a digital night scope on it. And then there was another one we didn't shoot that looked a lot like an A1 (dat triangular hand rail)
An M1 Garand (Although it looked more like a M14/M21 to me. It had that synthetic looking upper wood portion and it seemed to be shorter) It unfortunately jammed after a few shots in such a way that my uncle is going to have to disassemble it to fix according to him.
M1 Carbine, although It hadn't been shot or cleaned in quite awhile. The firing pin only hit one out of the three rounds before we decided to put it away.
A Mini-14, no one could hit the target with it though.
An AK of some sort, that thing looked like it came straight from a Taliban stash but it still worked great.
My dad's dad's government issue Colt 1911. We tried using some (probably) 60 year old ammo my dad found in the shed, but after a few rounds didn't go off we gave up on that and used some new ammo. The casings kept ejecting into my face, but it was a blast to shoot.
And then a hunting rifle that one of the guys got scope eye from while wearing glasses. Apparently he's supposed to get an license photo taken next Monday too.
We where also planning to shoot another AK and a Nagant, but we ran out of daylight.

I guess the decent thing about it is that you'll be able to use the brass quite a bit, seeing how it's not exactly a high pressure round.

Depends on how the reload goes, that round is reloaded in a really fucktarded way. It also depends on how the brass expands, and if the front of the casing is going to get fucked from shooting it. Since I've never shot this revolver, I have no idea how the brass behaves.
Why do you need special Negant projectiles?

Kalashnikova (remember that guy, heh) always had issues with it, he couldn't ever get the brass out without taking a hammer to it. Speaking of him, I went through one of our old threads while I was banned for shits and giggles. Kind of funny how Faze and Prussel would argue about things they agreed on.

no clue, but lets not dwell on bad memories

Permabanned and probably went to go get permabanned on Arfcom or Glocktalk.

Because the bullet is different than other 7.62 bullets, it's flat-headed and small, not pointed or round-nosed, so it'll fit in the weird brass.
[editline]26th January 2013[/editline]
Its a generally accepted idea that you can reload brass 2-4 times before its bad. As you get into higher numbers, make sure you're actually paying attention to the brass, and look for signs of stress. Discard all brass that looks stressed, as its better to pay for more brass than it is to deal with the aftermath of ruptured cartridges.
2-4? That's nothing, most people I've heard of use the brass 5-7 times no problem, it's not worth it if the brass only lasts 2 shots. Unfortunately, it looks like my Arisaka brass will only last a second go, due to the scratch in it from the chamber burr.

You can buy projectiles in every conceivable shape... Full wad cutters would probably work

I know he got perma'd, I just expected an alt or something
I sat down and read through download's post. It was a good read and I can say I've seen most of the defense mechanisims IRL
Doesn't say very much on how to deal with people who hold a 'Higher-than-thou-I-know-best" mentality, the types who always assume the intellectual, emotional and moral high ground the second it becomes known you're in favor of civilian firearms ownership. Those types in my experience have been the most debilitatingly stupid and tedious to debate. Because they're capable of sometimes very rational and educated opinions on certain subjects but when it comes to this, oh dear.
I know I've planted some seeds in some of the arguments and discussions I've been in IRL with people who were curious and or just didn't understand the 'Why' of it. And in all of those discussions there's always one of those types. That when ever I explained and answered any of the questions and made my point regardless of how gently and honestly I answered them they'd always do that snort.

I'm sure he still lurks along with Kalashnikova. I remember when someone talked about that chinese double barrel Kalshinkova bought that like broke in half, he popped in on another alt and defended his silly purchase.

Yes, but really that revolver uses a specific bullet due to the way the cartridge is designed, and those bullets are it. Besides, they don't really make 7.62 pistol wadcutters, who's going to fire that out of a TT-33?

He snapped a hammer on it. I've shot that same gun, but with a 12" barrel, it was fun, you can shoot both off at the same time due to the 2 triggers.

I remember that. I remember how most of us told him not to get it because those guns were garbage and he ignored us.

30cal pistol wadcutters are pretty much standard in ISSF matches. If you can get them easily here in Australia, you can get them in Canada
Here, in my own state, someone makes them:

Unless you want jacketed rounds for some reason

Wadcutters are usually needlessly expensive and hard to come by around here, FMJ tend to be the cheapest and most accessible. Also, I though you may need the specific bullet due to the way the factory ammo looks with the rolled-in crimp, but after reading this, where the guy used a .30 cal Hornady hollow-point, I realize it's not necessary, but would just probably give better performance, though also likely shorten case life. Also, why the balls would I use a Nagant revolver in ISSF matches? I'd be getting it for the history and reloading for it to shoot it for the hell/fun of it. Besides, IPSC is more popular than ISSF up here, and IPSC generally uses whatever pistol ammo you please, and for the pistols they use it's not usually wadcutters they're firing.
