Make sure it takes hi cap mags, not just ten rounders. And make sure the front sight is centered over the barrel, not canted to one side. Otherwise, pretty hard to fuck up an AK.
So I should get something like this? http://www.classicfirearms.com/romanian-ak-7-62-x-39 [editline]9th October 2012[/editline] Or something like this? http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/2-CARI1987-N
If those are your choices, go for the Romanian as long as you can inspect it beforehand. Even then, these are all better choices: http://www.jgsales.com/vz2008-sporter-7.62x39-w-fixed-synthetic-stock-milled-receiver,-by-cai.-p-4624.html VZ-58, the main rifle of Czechoslovakia. Very well built, just as reliable as an AK with a more accurate action. Built by CAI but one of their better offerings. http://www.jgsales.com/hungarian-amd-65-sa-2000m-ak-47-rifle,-feg-receiver,-tgi-import,-w-side-folding-stock.-p-3115.html AMD-65, not built by CAI with an original FEG receiver. These are some of the best AK's out there for the price. http://www.jgsales.com/polish-pattern-akms47-underfolder-rifle,-7.62x39-cal,-by-cai.-p-4715.html Polish AKMS-47. These use Nodak spud receivers, look sexy as hell and are made from Polish parts which are typically extremely good when compared to parts of other countries. http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F1CAKPAP&name=Zastava+PAP+M70+7.62x39+AK+Rifle&groupid=11 Here's the same PAP rifle for a little cheaper. I've ordered from these guys before, they're extremely fast and reliable. I still wouldn't buy one of these though. http://centerfiresystems.com/SAI-762IZ332.aspx Here's a partially converted SAIGA 7.62x39. All it requires is a simple conversion of the trigger group to accept standard AK stocks and pistol grips. This is something you can do in one day with a dremel tool and a vice. There's guides all over the internet to do this, just google "saiga conversion 7.62". For the price, you can't beat it. These are actually made in Russia by Izmash, right next to the AK's that go to their military. There's also a few others, VEPR's in particular I've heard really good things about. Plus you can get a .308 VEPR for only $500 + s/h and taxes. Check around www.centerfiresystems.com for all the VEPRs and other AK's they offer. Jesus I typed up a lot. Anyway I hope this helps.
oh god that SKS Im gonna
Bite me. I hate all you purist assholes who complain that "ER MAGERD YOU RUINED GOOD RIFLE", sorry but no I didn't. How many Yugo sks' are there now? 243,655? It's one of the most common sks models out there right now and it's no longer vietnam, If I want to improve on MY rifle then I will do so. Besides it's a lot more comfortable with a pistol grip.
oh god that SKS Im gonna
Eh, it doesn't look bad compared to some of Bubba's other SKS'. I don't know why people feel they have to modify them though. I mean, you can't make it any sexier than this: You guys suck.
i like iraqveteran8888's take on the subject if you have a dime a dozen surplus rifle, do whatever you want to it - but if you have a worn, obviously used rifle with a bit of history behind it, it's not alright to mess with it either way I like the SKS
if you have a dime a dozen surplus rifle, do whatever you want to it - but if you have a worn, obviously used rifle with a bit of history behind it, it's not alright to mess with it
Thankyou

It seems like the only ones available now have had Tapco's big, black dick slopped all over them. I managed to find one at a gun show for just under $400. Fucking ridiculous.
Sexy green tiger SKS
Somebody posted that in an abomination thread in /k/. Suprisingly, majority of people tought that it was okay and good-looking.
Say what you want, it's not the first time I've seen pictures of that particular SKS and it still makes me moist. While I normally appreciate you guys letting people know they're ruining irreplacable firearms, that's uncalled for in this instance.
At least everything on his SKS has a point, unlike most bubba'd rifles.
Only other thing Im still debating on for my SKS is a AFG, I can hold it by the mag fine but it's front heavy (obviously)
that actually looks really nice

Again, everything on there has a point. And they didn't go full retard with an adjustable stock or rails galore.
Alright then, I guess I'll have to go look at AK's soon.
Mug brought up a great point in the VZ.58... iirc they are imported by CAI but aren't built by them (Someone correct me if wrong). Either way they are my favorite of the Commbloc Semiauto rifles... only thing is that they wont take AK mags... but that's what I'd suggest.
Local shop just got a S&W M&P15 with a 1 in 8" 16" heavy barrel for $700. Also comes with 2 pmags and an MOE foregrip. Thinking about picking it up. Thoughts?
I'd typically be inclined to agree with you, but you still took your rifle and covered it in plastic and rails, aside from the paintjob, it looks like shit.
Oh come on now, the paintjob was pretty good compared to other ones out there. He at least didn't paint over the all main parts like some fuddola's inhale fumes into a frenzy over.
Why does it matter if I "covered it in plastic and rails", still functions like an SKS. I've had 0 jams and 0 problems with it so far... 1970 called it wants your opinions back
[editline]9th October 2012[/editline] My automerrge
1970 called it wants your opinions back
The irony being that in the 60s and 70s sporterizing military firearms was very popular
I'd probably remove the bottom and side rails if it was mine, aside from that it's lovely. :v:
I can remove the bottom rail, if I don't op for a AFG i will remove it.
Ebitusa's, not that thing with the digital tan. EDIT: Aaand there goes my auto-merge.

His is a nice AR but we [read: me him and all who have shoot it] agree it needs a flash suppressor [read muzzle break DAMN CT to hell].

Probably gonna put it on layaway tomorrow
