Or how about that old man who stopped two robbers from robbing an internet cafe with his handgun?
Is poaching even a modern day problem in the US anymore?
Yes it is, but that's a bullshit reason to regulate them. People are going to poach whether they have suppressors or not, which is evidenced by the fact that they still fucking do.
As much as I dislike the Pruss there is some truth to what he is saying. Accuracy with older mini-14's were the lament of many owners, they did have very thin crappy caste made barrels that flexed and warped alot when multiple rounds had been fired through said barrel. :science:
Apparently it's not so much a problem with newer Mini's because Ruger got its shit together and its said they've have started doing some modern fancey schmancy forging stuff with the barrels. I point you towards this Mini-14 as an example of what I'm trying to get at.

The barrel on this one is much thicker. Less flexing, better consistent accuracy.
My grandfather must've put an aftermarket barrel on his mini 14 then, his is about 30 years old and I can hit a quarter at 100 yard with the irons.
So if you're a responsible CC'er, when are you supposed to draw your firearm?
Any time a situation is getting dangerous and a firearm might deescalate it
[editline]11th October 2012[/editline]
If drawing a gun escalates the situation then you shoot.

Good fucking riddance.
I've drawn my pistol before. It was in a traffic situation, where a person behind me blew their horn, and the guy in front of me thought it was me. The guy got out of his car and started banging on my window. I told him it was the guy behind me, and that he needed to leave me alone. He would not listen and continued hitting my window, so I un-holstered, and when I drew it up, his attitude changed entirely. He went back to his car without saying anything else. I kept it at the ready until he drove off. Being unable to drive around him, there was no telling what he could have had in his car. It was one of those days I felt amazingly lucky that things turned out the way they did, after the fact.

There's probably more to what I said and some history that I missed the technicalities on.
I think it had something to with the fact that Bill Ruger was anti-civilian militia and supported unpopular gun legislation like the AWB and such before his death. And therefore he might have had some say with certain manufacturing decisions that hampered his firearms quality to prevent it from being used in said manner. That's just my rambling two cents.
thank god for old age or else bill ruger would still be here shitting up our hobby

I really do think its an aftermarket barrel though, it is pretty thick and it has been cut down ( 14 inches with a 2 inch flash supressor )
My dad has a 40 year old Mini 14 that honestly doesn't seem any less accurate than his modern Mini-14. I don't think all of the older Mini-14's had the accuracy problems.

If only I could find either an FR-8 or one of those locally.
I bought a bayonet from the LGS that they didn't even know what it was and /k/ helped me identify it was for those two rifles.
even if older ones are notorious for problems there's always a few good ones in a bad batch

he's dead so i have no qualms with buying a used folding-stock stainless mini-14
WHICH I NEED TO DO ONE OF THESE DAYS
Yeah, and the older Mini-14's were pretty damn good looking. I'm not particularly fond of the default stocks they use now-a-days.
If I had a chance to pick up an old police issue Mini-14 I would so jump on it.

There was one at a local gun store recently for something like $450.
It didn't stay in one place for very long :(

why didn't you buy it aduahslhasdlhu
at least it is in the mitts of someone who loves it
I was told that you shouldn't draw unless you're prepared to shoot to kill. Now that seems dumb if you read without thinking into it, so please think about it.

I didn't have any money at the moment to spend on guns. I think I had actually just bought one or something, it was a while ago.
I tried to get my dad to buy it because he has a small collection of like three Mini-14's but I couldn't get him to buy one more :v:
Jesus, 4 pages of shit since I went to bed last night...

You should always be prepared

Whoever taught you, taught you right. Never bring a gun to bear unless it's the last possible option. Don't need to escalate an already tense situation... plus that lets a would be attacker know you have a gun and gives him motivation to snatch it from you and use it against you.

if he can snatch the gun you're not holding it right. If he tries you shoot him
oh god i just realized
i could live in sealand and own ALL THE GUNS I WANT
oh shit i gotta do that
Oh and while I'm on the subject I feel that if your going to get a pistol permit (Read: Permit in USA) and you intend to carry, there should be classes offered by the state to teach people how to fend off an attacker and how to make sure the gun isn't taken from you... but hey, that's just what I think.

Cause Mr. and Mrs. "Just got the permit cause I saw the [Insert Criminal Act ending in Death(s)] and hope to only own this hand gun and never really need it" know what that is...

proper weapon retention is pretty natural, as long as they shoot how they're comfortable rather than how they see in hollywood they'll probably be good
