I would have kept all of it myself. If not all of it, at least the AR15
I just can't rid of any gun I own. They all mean something to me, and I hold onto them for the fact that I just don't think getting rid of a gun is a good idea. Maybe that's just me, but I'm weird like that.

Picture somewhat related, kits for the SL8 to make semiautomatic G36s.
Good lord, I want one of those conversion kits for my SL8 so bad...
I'd gotten bored of the AR platform in general. Haven't shot the gun since late April, early May. When I settled on selling it, I took it out on Thursday to expend the last of the ammo I had for it. Didn't do anything for me. After almost 6 months of shooting guns with short stroke pistons in them like the M1A and AK, the sproing in the stock was an annoyance as well.
Hell, I've been lining up parts for an A1 style build, but yesterday decided not to do that, even. Back in March, I loved my AR exactly how it was.

But then I started getting rid of components. First the optic. Then the pmags. Eventually the gun just became boring to me, so I stripped it down to basic components, sold off all the upgrades, and then it sat unused. Figured I could at least cash in on the pre-election scare and turn a profit on it...
I'm quite tempted to set up a mail order surplus ammo business.
Apparently there is only one company in Australia that imports ammo, thus it explains the ridiculous price. So I was thinking; get import permits, find an international hazardous goods shipper, buy a container of mostly 7.62x54mmR with some 7.62x39mm from Russia or China or something, buy another from the US filled with surplus 9mm Luger, .223/5.56x45mm, and 7.62x51mm. Get appropriate explosives storage, sell it buy the case for less than 25c a round.
Only issue is I'd need $10k or so to get it off the ground and the contacts to find the stuff cheap and bulk
ridge my grandfather and I are going to go take his M1903A3 to the range soon
just figured you'd like to know, this is not an invitation

Try 100K, at least, most likely a mill to become a major national player. Not to mention that Ausland, like Canuckistan, is hellbent on slowly murdering shooting sports, and as such the government will never issue you the permits. That, and dealing with ITAR exports out of the US are a bitch, meaning you'll never get surplus ammo from the States, as exporting the surplus is probably against ITAR, else there'd be a bunch in Canada already. China and the East Bloc would be the best placed to find surplus, Norinco makes surplus .308, .223, .45, and probably 9mm, as well as having surplus in all the commie calibres except 7.62x25, which you can still get a crapload of out of Czechoslovakia, and likely Russia soon too.

That Ruger has a really small trigger guard, they really did design it like the Nambu. That'll be a bitch to fire in the Winder, gloves won't fit in the guard.

The fact you don't have it in Canada is quite compelling, hmmm..
We can import the non-surplus stuff from the US easy, bit strange. Anyway, I pulled 10k out of my ass and I expect you pulled 100k out of yours, it would really need to be priced up first
Edit:
Looking it up, seems that if i have more than 60kgs or more of any explosive I need an explosives magazine which is quite a serious investment. 60gks of explosives would be about 30,000 rounds of 7.62x54mmR, probably not enough to turn over a decent profit

Finishing paying this thing off at work next week. Sangged a pic of it while I could since we were busy. I'm quite pumped about it

Oh yeah? Well I'll set up my own range! With blackjack, and hookers! In fact, forget the range!

-Snip this part, misinterpretation- Yes, I did pull 100K out of my ass for the example, but I wish I had 100K to pull out of my ass, though it likely still wouldn't be enough to start an ammo/guns business here, one because that shit's expensive, as are the licenses and permits, and two because I hate debt. This is speculation, but usually they won't issue export permits for less that at least $5000 of ammo from the US, and it's usually one or two companies that import it, and they sell it around. The importers need a shitload of capital and space, because to ensure they keep their costs down, they import ammo by the hundred of thousands of dollars because they know they'll get better pricing for bulk purchases.
And yeah, we don't get surplus from the US, like I said, ITAR is a bitch, and it's the biggest bitch for Canadians, who have been quietly asking for Canada to be exempt because we want to buy cheap US guns, ammo, scopes, stocks, and all the other innocuous shit ITAR controls.

I wish I had an AR, I just love the look of them. I'd get an eotech for it too, that sight looks cool.

You would think ITAR wouldn't apply to the USs main Allies, like you Guys, Australian, Uk etc
You would think ITAR wouldn't apply to the USs main Allies, like you Guys, Australian, Uk etc
ITAR is basically designed to keep US shit in the US, and foreign shit out of the US. ITAR makes getting things from the States a huge pain, especially for Canadians, who want to get a scope/stock/box of ammo/a $10 scope ring (I shit you not, ITAR controls that too) from the US, but can't because of ITAR.
Hey, Americans, write to your congressman/senator/whoeverthefuckelse politician/the NRA, and tell them to make Canada exempt from ITAR, since they don't give a shit about the opinions of Canadians since we can't vote, maybe you can help us have a better time getting shit up here.
Sig Sauer 556 soon

You would think that is really bad for their economy, probably loosing several billion per year

Implying they listen to anyone worth less than $1million?
You would think that is really bad for their economy, probably loosing several billion per year
Nope, their economy only suffers likely a few million, and that's easily made up with the domestic gun craze that follows a Democrat winning an election or a mass shooting.
Outside of the US, there is no other comparable market to make it enough of a detriment for them to care.

That's just fucking annoying. Explains why Australians pay so much for guns and ammo too.
I wonder if China has such restrictive export controls

Let's see, how many Norinco guns are there in Canada?
Not likely, better it be out of China than in it.

Officially 8 million, unofficially ~16 million. Of that, likely a few hundred thousand are Norinco.
Anyone want to take a guess as to how much Norinco ammo might be from the factory?
DaCommie are you a walking encyclopedia on Canada
DaCommie are you a walking encyclopedia on Canada
No, just Canadian gun culture, I don't know shit about the Prairies or Maritimes.
No, just Canadian gun culture, I don't know shit about the Prairies or Maritimes.
Prairies are flat except for the mountains and forests. Maritimes are full of potatoes.
You just got learned.
Well, I had bid on, and won, a 10.5" LMT upper on gunbroker, but apparently the seller was Botach Tactical. I don't know if anyone is familiar with their reputation, but it's pretty infamous, just search Botach Tactical. When I finally managed to get a hold of them, they tell me the upper isn't in stock. They also told me that they haven't had it in stock for awhile, and they are not sure when LMT is going to send out new ones. Moral of the story, if the shit isn't in stock, don't list an auction for it on gunbroker!
I ended up going out to the gun shop Saturday, and while I was looking I saw they finally had some XDS's in stock. Snagged one for $529, and I'm pretty damn happy with it. For being so small, it shots and handles well. Slide function took some getting used to, but overall a great little gun.
