Is yours something like an A1 style lower? I want modern, but I highly doubt I'll have rails. I'm also considering just buying the M&P 15 Sport model. Its $600.
Yes, mine is an A1 lower, but they also sell A2 lowers. Currently they're temporarily out of stock, but you could probably find one on Gunbroker or just wait a little while for them to make a few more. They're never out of stock for long.
Just don't tell your FFL that, if you tell him you're unable to claim it and you're getting someone else to do it, it's considered a straw deal, and thats illegal apparently. I've run into that trouble before.
It's not a straw deal if the person buying it for you is a parent.
Thanks for all the help so far everyone, I read the thread regularly. I have read all of the pages so far, quite a good read.
So I just got my first pistol today. Gen4 Glock 17. It's choice as fuck. Haven't shot it yet, unfortunately, but hopefully soon.
Related: it's cool to dry-fire a Glock, right? Don't you have to in order to de-cock it?
Yeah nothing wrong with dry firing a Glock. If you can drop one out of a plane, dig it back out of the ground and fire off a mag with no stoppages then you can dry fire it :v:

I've seen glocks get hit by bullets and function fine. Dry firing it isn't going to hurt

glock 19
My first pistol was a Walther P1. Don't regret it.
I've recently come across 1,650 dollars. What is the best rifle that I can purchase for that price? I'm really open to anything, but I'd prefer not to use all of it on a gun.
I have been checking out Galils. The style really fits me, but I'm worried I'd be spending too much on ammo since .223/5.56x45 isn't exactly the cheapest shit on the market, and it is a rifle that burns a load of ammunition..
I like M1As as well. Ammo is a bit on the costly side of things, but it wouldn't burn nearly as quick.
I'd buy a pistol if I could, preferably a Glock 19c, but I don't know any private seller who wants to get rid of one. In Virginia, you can buy a pistol at 18 as long as it isn't from an FFL, which is ridiculously stupid since a gun bought private sale seems a lot more conspicuous than one bought from an FFL.

Its that way in Texas, too. My first Pistol was a CZ-82 and a Walther P22 (late production, non crappy one).
Is it acceptable to discuss archery in this thread?
I know bows aren't firearms, but I see the occasional archery/bowhunting thread on /k/. I bring this up because my takedown recurve will be coming in the mail in a few days time, and I want to brag about it here
i dont understand glocks
some people say they're the ak's of pistols and can take any abuse yet some same they're huge pieces of shit hence where glocknade comes from. whats the real answer?

I never bought into the whole Glocknade thing. Funny and all, but from what all I've seen, they don't exactly explode real easily. I've seen two reliability tests so far, one where the fucking op rod melted, yet the gun still functioned flawlessly, and the other one I posted where he buried it in sand, shot it, left it in salt water overnight, drug it behind a car then dropped it out of a plane then fired 15k rounds through it and that gun is still the guy's personal concealed carry sidearm. So honestly I just don't see where people get the idea from that they're pieces of shit.
unrelated but made me laugh

I've never had an FTE or FTF (or kb, obviously) out of my first gen 22, which is supposedly the gun most affected by the explosiveness
[editline]25th October 2012[/editline]
it's had easily 40,000 rounds out of it

.223 isn't that expensive, you can get it from wolf or tulammo for a similar price to 7.62x39. Theres also quite a bit of surplus ammo out there. I'd totally pick up a galil, if I could find one.

They don't explode... The worst I've seen is someone putting crap hand loads through my club's guns and having the barrel bulge

.223 is pretty cheap compared to any full powered cartridge
[editline]26th October 2012[/editline]
See here, it's a tally of all the cartridges you can buy by price
http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=.223%2F5.56
For example, Wolf 55 grain FMJ, 21.7c a round
Surplus is pretty cheat too

I have a gen 2 Glock 22 (Fullsize in .40S&W). I have fired thousands, THOUSANDS, of rounds into it, Not one single FTFe, FTFi, FTE, etc.
When we were out shooting my uncle's 3rd gen 17 it had 2 FTEs. That was out of 7 mags, all 17-rounders.
lol guns in cali
I personally would prefer not to use/buy a Glock. I think while they may be good pistols, I really just don't think that they fit in my hand well. They feel uncomfortable to shoot...I much prefer M92's
To each his own, i guess

stop limp wristing it
had 3 FTE's on a 3rd gen glock 7 I rented at a gun range, shot nice though.
stop limp wristing it
Except there were no problems in 10 mags from the XDm with same ammo?
Except there were no problems in 10 mags from the XDm with same ammo?
then stop feeding it shitty ammo
[editline]25th October 2012[/editline]
actually for two FTEs it was probably just a poor grip during those shots and not a general issue

The 92's trigger is too long and spongey for my taste.
