The Good news: We got an all original Springfield 1903 from 1915 that was actually used in WWI, and it is [i]beautiful[/i]!
The Bad news: The bore looks like the surface of Mars, the weapon is unfireable. :c

Actually, we've gotten a major improvement already. We decided to go with the electrolysis approach. A couple of hours ago, the bore was the surface of Mars.
Mars is gone now.
All of that rusting and pitting hath been vanquished.
I can't decide if I like my AK more with wood, or black furniture...only solution is to buy another...

That does reminds me, I need to get a Kalinka Optic or some other PSO scope for mine, I have some shitty UTG tactical rails scope and that conflicts heavily with the rest of the style.
I've been trying to decide on an optic for a while. It really comes down to mini red dot on the handguard, or some sort of tube optic on the dogleg. Or mounting one of those hinged railed dustcovers...

The thing with all of those are is that you're not going to hold a zero with your sights as easily as one on the Dovetail. Buy a low profile rail system that mounts on the dovetail and then mount your sight on that instead.

That was the one I really wanted. But I realized that it's like EOTech height. You're going to end up with a chinweld on your stock using that.

They're expensive, but that site is currently the best place to get Russian Scopes and other optics for AK patterns.

yeah, luckily I found a Russian 4x scope ( I guess it's a PSO) at a local flea market for under a 100$, I use that one on my AK

Like I mentioned above, I have this ugly as fuck tacticool UTG rail with a rail on the side since I couldn't find an actual Russian Optic at the time, the scope I have on it is nice even though it's meant for an SKS.

What block of serial numbers are you in? Also what's the date on your barrel? Is it a Springfield or a Smith Corona? Just curious. I love those old bolt guns C:

I don't really know much, although I can tell you the serial number is low, and the barrel is dated 1915. The stock also has the inspector's initials stamped on it somewhere (something they did early war).

Just a warning, if your serial # is below 800k fire at your own risk. Below 800k they were only single heat treating the receivers and they have a tendency to shatter like glass, especially under the pressures of a modern .30-06 cartridge.
There are ways to tell if the bolt is below 800k but I don't know off the top of my head, iirc it's based on the angle of the handle.
For Smith Corona and RIA the serial number cutoff is in the 120k iirc. Definitely inspect the gun and do a little research before firing.
In any event cool gun though. Early 1903s are hella cool. I almost bought a 1910 springfield with original Jan. 1910 barrel, but at $800 I couldn't justify a non-fireable rifle.
