[QUOTE=felix the cat;38243930]Just a warning, if your serial # is below 800k fire at your own risk. Below 800k they were only single heat treating the receivers and they have a tendency to shatter like glass, especially under the pressures of a modern .30-06 cartridge.
There are ways to tell if the bolt is below 800k but I don't know off the top of my head, iirc it's based on the angle of the handle.
For Smith Corona and RIA the serial number cutoff is in the 120k iirc. Definitely inspect the gun and do a little research before firing.
In any event cool gun though. Early 1903s are hella cool. I almost bought a 1910 springfield with original Jan. 1910 barrel, but at $800 I couldn't justify a non-fireable rifle.[/QUOTE]
We've done our research, believe me. The serial number is like 626k, so we will fire at our own risk. We'll use light loads if we do fire, but only if we can get the damn thing in a fire-able condition first. We've found out what is believed to be the cause of the malfunctions you are referring to, so we know what to avoid. The cause was improper heat treating, and the way to avoid the issue of it blowing up is to fire loads that are not super hot. Chances are, if it didn't blow up in someone's face during the war, it won't unless you have a really hot load. We did a shitload of research before buying the damn thing. :v:
Yeah, I mean clearly not every rifle suffered from the improper heat treating.
Congrats on the gun though, with the original stock I'm sure it's a real beauty!

It will be once we evict Mars from the bore to the best of our abilities. :v:
EDIT: Have some pictures.

Yeah, it's truly amazing just how beautiful a 97 year old rifle can be.

If its bore had been in good condition, it would have gone for far more.
Random note of the day, While cleaning my guns I managed to pour a whole bottle of hoppes all over my table and wood floor. Protip: Point your barrel with cleaning rod inside at floor instead of hoppes bottles.
I did that once. Needless to say it was rather unpleasant.
A guy ~5 minutes away from me has a S&W model 19-6 in box. Low round count, box and papers original to the gun.

Says he'll take $550 for it. I'm reeeeeeealy thinking about it but right now cash is light.
Should I spring for it?
[editline]30th October 2012[/editline]
BTW, it's the exact revolver I want. .357, classic blued and wood grips. I waaaaant iiiitttttt

If it's cheaper than what they usually go for, get it. It'll be worth it.
offer $500
[editline]30th October 2012[/editline]
or $400 and a wild night
He denied $400 and a blow, says $550 is the least he'll take.
He's asking $600 in the ad, maybe i could wait a month, see if he'll take $500.
It would give me time to sell a part of my liver to pay for it
[QUOTE=Kartoffel;38245054]If it's cheaper than what they usually go for, get it. It'll be worth it.[/QUOTE]
It's about the usual. They go for around $525 on gunbroker, minus any shipping and transfer fees
Perhaps you could offer him a down payment this month, and the rest of it next month?
Wow, that .700 rifle was very impressive. From the video, recoil looks surprisingly manageable.
[QUOTE=Kartoffel;38241574]My dad got himself a Sig Sauer P220 in .45 ACP for concealed carry.
That'll be fun at the range! :v:[/QUOTE]
Okay, I have to ask, how big of a guy is your dad? Reason I ask is, P220 is a rather large pistol for conceal carry, unless you are shoulder holstering it. I'm a pretty stout fellow myself, 6'2" 220, and I have a hard time concealing a full-size 1911. My buddy has a P220, and it's pretty much the same size as the 1911, but bigger in some places, like height. The P220 is about half an inch taller than my 1911s, and that's the main measurement that matters when you conceal.
Oh well, to each his own I guess. I switched from a Glock 30SF to a Springfield XDS because I thought the Glock was too large, lol.

The gun that guy has looks pristine, so $550 is pretty much a steal. Prices on GB tend to be slightly lower, but you have stack on at least $10-15 for shipping, and at minimum a $20 transfer fee. Plus you have to wait for it to get to your FFL first, and no one likes to wait.

Cool thanks for the feedback, I'll let you know how it fires after I take it to the range
I would give so much to just own a handgun, fucking Sweden and our fucking laws.
As a Dane; I know that feeling, man.
kar-98 = best gun ever, I mean the nazis used it and look at how many [sub][sub][sub][sub][sub][sub]jews[/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub] people they killed with it. impressive record if you ask me
On the topic of scandinavian firearms restrictions, isn't Norway pretty liberal about this stuff though? I mean, Prusselusken seems to have his fair share of firearms, unless I've misunderstood.
