poor bastard, my glock 22 with it's 3 15 round mags cost $700 during the assault weapons ban
During the ban? I recently bought a Gen 2 Model 22 in .40 that was a Police carry gun, was refurb'd by Glock, Got it, the hard case, three mags, and a box of Critical Defense for $350. I feel that won't ever happen again, price wise. This was at the Fort Worth (Texas) Gun show a year ago or so.
Cost and recoil of a .45, and stopping power (I hate saying that, but can't think of another word to really describe it) of 9mm. The only advantage to .40 is that it's such a shit round, it and .380 will be the only calibers left in stock next week.
Where the hell do you buy your ammo? Around here (Fort Worth, TX) .40 is the same price as 9mm, and much cheaper than .45 ACP. Lets break out the numbers, shall we? First up, 45 ACP. (Testing from 5 in. barrel) 230 gr (15 g) Federal Hydra-Shok - 900 ft/s (270 m/s) - 414 ft·lbf (561 J) Next, .40S&W. (testing from 4 in. barrel) 180 gr (12 g) Magtech FMJ-FP - 1,050 ft/s (320 m/s) - 441 ft·lbf (598 J) Last, The Army standard, 9mm Para. (testing from 150mm (6 in.) barrel.) 124 gr (8 g) FMJ - 1200 ft/s (360 m/s) - 382 ft·lbf (518 J) The .40 has the most energy, and depending on bullet size, can be sub or super sonic. All of these I got from Wikipedia, and they are all FMJ, middle weight ammo (for the respective caliber.) The .45 is the largest payload, but because of the slower velocity, it shares its energy with the .40S&W bullet. So, by getting a .40 pistol, you get more bullets per mag compared to .45, but less compared to 9mm. In most places, .40 is the same or very very close to the 9mm in price, compared to the .45 ACP that is quite expensive now a days. (It didn't used to be... Think pre-2005.) Of the three, I'd pick the .40 all day, every day. it is literally the best "bang for your buck." Also keep in mind, the test were NOT in the .40's favor, since it had the shortest barrel. With a 5 or 6 inch barrel, you can expect faster velocity and therefore even MORE energy. Combine that with a nice hollow point, and you're set, for any situation (within reasonable distance, this IS for a pistol after all.) The 9mm does have the advantage of being the "flattest" trajectory and reaching out the farthest for a hit, but this is outside normal pistol range, for any trained shooter. [editline]31st October 2012[/editline]
during the ban. My mags are marked LE only but fuck clinton
Haha nice. I kinda like the idea of a civie owning "LE" roll marks. That's just me though.
not necessarily. I'm more in the more manly pulling power from more manly arms school of compound bows. my compound has a 90 pound draw weight which is wholly unnecessary in even a longbow, in a compound bow it's plain old overkill imagine taking the time to aim a shot with a 90 lb longbow, your arm would probably come off
Shit, wow, you're so hardcore.

There is a very good reason so many police departments (not to mention the FBI) are going with 40S&W these days. In Australia, nearly every police force is using it
On the subject of people who put firearm videos on YouTube, Hickok45 is amazingly educational for someone like me who has no practical experience with guns. :v:
Hickock45>FPSrussia cokeman>hickock45
I am a big fan of Iraqveteran8888 as well as Hickok45. Iraqveteran8888 has some of the best gunsmithing and reloading videos I've seen anywhere.

Hickok45, Iraqvet, Sturmgewehre, taofledermaus.

Including Iraqveteran8888. They were all terrible. Poor lighting, not facing the camera when working on the item in question, etc... Hickok45 is fun to watch. Good videos, cool guns, and good shooting.
how do you get so tall, Paul Bunyan?
mother was 6'1 and father 6'8, Alright i've decided on a 1911. What caliber should i be looking for? i was thinking 45acp?
You'd consider a 1911 in anything but .45? Scrub
.22lr obviously~
1911 in 10mm Auto because yes
1911 in 10mm Auto because yes
Would rather have .400 corbon
M1911 in .50BMG, make it happen.
Hickock45>FPSrussia cokeman>hickock45
I would disagree, even if he is acting like an idiot for the channel it just doesn't seem like a good excuse to do it. Also, I may be getting a 10/22 Takedown and AR-7 instead since the Takedown comes with its own bag that can conveniently fit it in it with ammo and mags for both.
Cokeman is good for a laugh, although some of the things he does makes me raise an eyebrow every now and then. Hickock is good for when you just want to relax and learn about whatever particular gun he's got out for the day.
cokeman and friends is great for fpsrussia style dicking around but overall I enjoy hickok's videos the most
I really enjoy Hickok's and Iraqwarveteran8888's videos. On something of a side note I absolutely cannot stand all the morons who comment on youtube gun videos. [editline]31st October 2012[/editline] I like that hickok's just out there having a good time shooting and doesn't get into all the gun politics

Also how fitting, he put up another 10/22 Takedown video earlier today.
Oh, well I don't listen to his radio show [editline]31st October 2012[/editline] In any event I think he represents the gun community in a positive manner unlike most of the dumbshits on youtube
Gun politics is one of those things that just makes my blood boil, I don't want to get into it on my free time. Hickok keeping shooting and politics separate is one of the reasons I love his show.
Just watched some night footage from the Big Sandy Shoot, holy fuck tracers everywhere. [editline]31st October 2012[/editline] Bet it's a thousand times more stunning in real life though.

In heavy fog, with propane tanks.
Have you guys seen IraqVeteran8888's Sporter Nugget? I really like it. I have a nice 1942 Tula I'm saving, I wanna get another Nugget to Sport up.
-snip bad reading-
I wish Hickok45 would do a video on the Marlin 795 .22lr. It's a great shooter right out of the box and you can usually find them on sale for $125. Instead of paying $200+ for a 10/22.
