Any Australia gun users in here?
I haven't started getting my licence and such yet, but I hope to one day when I can afford it, do I count?
Got to fingerfuck a used P-210 today, priced at $1100'ish. If I was 21 I'd buy it in an instant (or rather as quick as possible in this country)
As in the MK14 EBR/M39 EMR Stock? How much does that cost, anyway? [editline]5th November 2012[/editline] Also, according to Wikipedia, it looks like the MK14/M39 are basically the same, but the MK14 has an 18in barrel, where the M39 has a 22in barrel.
I think they're about 700$ stocks.
it came from outer space
what is that, because I want one.
It's a TP-82, Russian survival gun for cosmonauts. SxS smoothbore barrels chambered for 12.5x70mm ammunition on top, with a rifled 5.45x39mm barrel beneath them. It also had a detachable stock that doubled as a machete. [editline]6th November 2012[/editline] Here's another picture of it, this one with the machete stock.
For fighting space monsters?
Survival out in the Siberian wilderness while waiting pick up apparently, but could also be used if transported into a post apocalyptic Australia.
Yeah, the Soviet idea for a proper landing procedure was "Just crash somewhere in Siberia and fight wolves until someone picks you up". Many cosmonauts were lost that way, as they became leaders of packs of wolves and did not want to return home. Said food and housing was better. Such is life in russia.
Many.
What was the process like of getting you're firearms licence here
For fighting space monsters?
Even though it's supposedly a Siberian wilderness survival gun, I could totally see it being used to defend yourself from aliens. It's kind of nutty in a conspiracy theory way, but maybe there WERE ALIENS BOARDING HUMAN SPACECRAFT?
My front wiggles back and fourth. What about the couple Kel-Tec's I posted. Any reason to not use that instead of my Hi-Point as a defense weapon? My Hi-Point has never had a FTF or jam or anything, I just want something smaller. The plinking weapon was me beginning the nerdy gun search...
I have a Kel-tec PF-9. It's my everyday carry gun. I like it, but it's definitely not a plinking gun. It's very small and lightweight for a 9mm, and some people are not comfortable shooting it. In fact, fans of the gun don't consider it "fun" to shoot. The recoil is quite severe. My girlfriend, who likes shooting, doesn't want to shoot it again after putting all of 11 rounds through it. It is not a range gun. It is a concealed carry gun. Fit and finish on Kel-tec guns leaves something to be desired. If you purchase one new, it may be a good idea to take it apart and sand down the sharp edges. I find them to be acceptably reliable, but a lot of folks don't. I've had a number of malfunctions (failure to extract) with mine after getting it hot and dirty. It does seem to function fine for the first few magazines. Once it gets hot, it stays hot for a while and things don't fit together like they're supposed to. This is not a gun you'd want in a prolonged firefight. A Hi-Point is probably a better option for home defense. I don't like those guns because they're ugly and because I don't care for the compromises (super heavy + low capacity = WTF), but it will definitely make a better night stand gun than an ultra-light subcompact. EDIT: I do believe 7.62x25 Tokarev pistols can be had for around $200. I've never held one, but they look pretty good in videos and pictures, and I want one. Muzzle energy on the round is comparable to 9mm, though it seems to vary more. [editline]5th November 2012[/editline]
Thanks
The P-11 has a much heavier trigger than the PF-9. I don't mind how heavy the PF-9 is, but I do mind how long it is. My trigger is almost touching the grip when it breaks, and that's not too terribly comfortable for me.
[img_thumb]http://puu.sh/1mP6T[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/1mP6X[/img_thumb] So close, just another 5-10 thousands of an inch to go. It's a real tight fit too, have to use a mallet to get the lock plate out of the mortice.
So after looking for a KelTec Sub200 in 9mm for a year, I found a place that has a bunch of them in the glock configuration in .40cal S&W. Is .40 cheap enough for a range gun compared to 9mm? Or am I better off waiting and getting a 9mm version?
Are you smithing the pistol parts yourself, or did you order them?
I got most of the parts from Track of the Wolf and the lock was made by Jim Chambers. I made the sideplate and will be making the trigger plate though. Dunno if I ever explained why I'm making this pistol, but basically I was going to use that lock to make a longrifle with interchangeable barrels, one in .36 and another in .50. It would have been a basic Flintlock rifle of the kind you would have found during the 1770s. However I ended up changing my mind and when I build my rifle it's going to be a Wender instead, a kind of double barreled rifle, problem is the Jim Chambers lock I have won't work for that kind of rifle. I've already picked out a different lock but I'll need another $750 in parts and materials to build the Wender, most of that being the cost of two .50 barrels. The pistol cost $350 in parts, not including the wood which is worth about that much on it's own if not more but didn't cost me anything. I'm gonna sell the pistol afterward and hopefully I can get enough to pay for the Wender. If not I'll put the money toward building a Copy Carver and make duplicates of my AR-15 grip.

Almost everywhere Around the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex (where I live) .40 is THE SAME price as 9mm, and ballistically better. Also you can use 33 round Glock mags! I posted some numbers on the ballistics, Lemme go fetch them. (This means yes, buy it.) [editline]5th November 2012[/editline]
Where the hell do you buy your ammo? Around here (Fort Worth, TX) .40 is the same price as 9mm, and much cheaper than .45 ACP. Lets break out the numbers, shall we? First up, 45 ACP. (Testing from 5 in. barrel) 230 gr (15 g) Federal Hydra-Shok - 900 ft/s (270 m/s) - 414 ft·lbf (561 J) Next, .40S&W. (testing from 4 in. barrel) 180 gr (12 g) Magtech FMJ-FP - 1,050 ft/s (320 m/s) - 441 ft·lbf (598 J) Last, The Army standard, 9mm Para. (testing from 150mm (6 in.) barrel.) 124 gr (8 g) FMJ - 1200 ft/s (360 m/s) - 382 ft·lbf (518 J) The .40 has the most energy, and depending on bullet size, can be sub or super sonic. All of these I got from Wikipedia, and they are all FMJ, middle weight ammo (for the respective caliber.) The .45 is the largest payload, but because of the slower velocity, it shares its energy with the .40S&W bullet. So, by getting a .40 pistol, you get more bullets per mag compared to .45, but less compared to 9mm. In most places, .40 is the same or very very close to the 9mm in price, compared to the .45 ACP that is quite expensive now a days. (It didn't used to be... Think pre-2005.) Of the three, I'd pick the .40 all day, every day. it is literally the best "bang for your buck." Also keep in mind, the test were NOT in the .40's favor, since it had the shortest barrel. With a 5 or 6 inch barrel, you can expect faster velocity and therefore even MORE energy. Combine that with a nice hollow point, and you're set, for any situation (within reasonable distance, this IS for a pistol after all.) The 9mm does have the advantage of being the "flattest" trajectory and reaching out the farthest for a hit, but this is outside normal pistol range, for any trained shooter.
[editline]5th November 2012[/editline] Also, I wouldn't mind having one myself, mind if I ask where you found them?
http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=.40+S%26W http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=9mm+Luger How cheap are you getting your .40 caliber? I'm tempted to buy the .40cal re-manufactured ammunition to keep costs as close to 9mm level as possible. What about the ballistics of a .40 out of a rifle barrel?
My muzzle brake came in today. Honestly not very impressed. It's got brake slots cut in it the entire circumference. Also, my ceiling light broke off the ceiling while I was taking a picture. I was leaning forward to operate my phone camera, so it landed on my back instead of my head.

Same as 9mm here. You can expect better (flatter, faster, higher energy) ballistics out of a longer barrel, the .40 and 9mm both have more room to improve in a long barrel, the .45ACP, not so much. Also, if the Firearm is "+P" or "+P+" Rated, you can buy the respective ammo and get even better results.

What kind of .40cal is 8$ a box over there? If I can grab it on par with 9mm, I'm definitely gonna grab the Sub2k40.
Goddamn it I want a Sub2k so bad. Its so lightweight.... and collapse-able. Too bad I'm too young and broke.
this might sound dumb but how much would a Colt made GI 1911 in .45 (obviously) cost? I've been dying for a standard issue 1911 and want the classic one [editline]5th November 2012[/editline] ridge you had that Remington one, you might know
An actual Colt GI style seems to go for at least $890, at Bud's Gunshop http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_141/products_id/36291/Colt+1991+Government+.45acp+5%22+Blue While my Remington, which was probably identical to a GI with the exception of the polished barrel bushing and the trigger, cost me $600 http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_925/products_id/62266/Remington+1911+R1+45ACP+5%22+Walnut+Grips+by+ERPC
Colts are usually ~$1k iirc
